Hello! I love your videos! I was just wondering, how do you know when your ready to start talking to a language exchange partner? I have been learning Thai by myself for about 7 months, but I don’t feel confident to start talking to native speakers yet. Any advice?

Hey, thank you for watching and commenting! I like to build a friendship first because my worst fear is doing a skype call and then having nothing to talk about or we don't get along. I think confidence is something that comes with time, I still have times where I don't feel confident when with my friends/language partner but I force myself to push through. One thing that helps me is remembering that the person I'm speaking to probably feels the same way about the language they want to learn. In my experience people are excited that you're learning their language so will be happy to correct mistakes etc. and they won't laugh at you for not getting something right (and if they do, then they aren't good partners!). I think it is amazing that you've been learning on your own for 7 months! I recommend using an app like Hello Talk or Tandem and trying to build a friendship/meeting someone and then when you are ready arrange a 30 minute call (could split the time between Thai and the language they are learning). That way you get a chance to speak to them but you don't have to commit to a full hour with a stranger. I always start with doing 30 minute calls with exchange partners so that I can see whether we have things in common etc. I hope the above helps...it ended up being longer than expected but feel free to ask me if you have more questions 😊😊 โชคดี🙏
