I do agree, I feel Lattafa and Paris Corner and Afnan are overhyped by other influencers and extreme marketing tactics. Although I feel defensive about Middle Eastern brands (UAE being my home and all) I think people who have had bad experiences with Middle Eastern brands have only tried the lower end of the line up. Don't go for the dupe house, try the real Arabian niche houses like Hind Al Oud and Arabian Oud (both niche prices and quality), Swiss Arabian Al Haramain and most recently Gissah (designer prices). Let's not judge Middle Eastern brands by just trying a few mediocre and cheapies clones. Try the actual good stuff 😊
@dr.claire.perfume2 ай бұрын
Absolutely, the affordable end is probably not what anyone living in the UAE actually wears I would expect 😂 because there is so much better to be had there. When I filmed this, I actually said "but there's so much more to ME fragrances than clones" but I cut it out (along with more of this discussion and other parts of other answers, because the video was soooo long.) I do get it, that the selection that people actually talk about on YT is the lower end of the market for sure! Those fragrances are made purely for export or tourists I think... I won't blind buy, but if I get a chance to sample those brands I will for sure, thank you for the recommendations. I value those more from someone who isn't an influencer. Actually I do still sample even brands that I know I haven't enjoyed in the past too, like Lattafa, because I don't want to dismiss anything too quickly, but I don't go out of my way to do so any more. I do truly love the older Amouage fragrances and they are from Oman so I know the amazing quality and invention that comes from the wider region in general. Thanks for watching 🥰
@SAMIRA02092 ай бұрын
@@dr.claire.perfume thank you for the detailed response, I really appreciate it. And yes I do think you're right, you cannot blind buy proper Middle Eastern niche fragrances, coz bakhur and Oud isn't everyone's cup of tea (or cuppa Qahwa I should say 🤭) I've bakhur in my blood 😂 and unless a Western perfume is nuclear level strong, I will dismiss them as weak 🤦 perhaps my nose has been ruined by us burning bakhur at home 🤷 so the opposite is true for the other half of the world who isn't used to Oud, they can find this stuff too heavy and skanky? Some safe samples/decants that I suggest you can try are Rose 01 by Swiss Arabian, Shaghaf Oud Tonka also by Swiss Arabian and Hudson Valley by Gissah. These won't make you pass out 😂
@dr.claire.perfume2 ай бұрын
@@SAMIRA0209 Of the three you suggest, I have tried Shaghaf Oud Tonka, I specifically went to try that because people were talking about it so much. I didn't love it sadly, I think it's the almond, it came off as very plasticky especially to begin with but I did also smell the marzipan at points when it had dried down. I think often the problem for me too is that I'm not a huge fan of what these fragrances are said to be duping, i.e. the BDK Velvet Tonka, although actually I didn't find them to be that close to each other so I wonder if it is actually meant to be a clone or even an interpretation as people say 🤷♀️ I will look out for the other two though. Thanks ☺️
@SAMIRA02092 ай бұрын
@@dr.claire.perfume I can swear to you that Shaghaf Oud Tonka came off really strong medicinal almond oil to me too, that initial blast isn't pleasing. Especially to me, because in our culture we massage newborn babies with almond oil 🤷🏽♀️ don't ask why! But I'll be honest, the almond tones down and you're left with a nice elegant scent. It took me 3 tries over 2 months to fall in love with Shaghaf Oud Tonka, because of the almondy opening I really did wanna hate it. But it won me over 😁 I've heard it's similar to Velvet Tonka too, but I don't mind it coz A. It's not exactly a cheapy dupe B. I absolutely love Tonka in my fragrances (better, spicy version of vanilla for me) C. Swiss Arabian quality is 10 times better than Lattafa and Paris Corner 🤦🏽♀️ I hope you do try the other 2, I'd love to hear your opinions on them. I do wish some of UK's home brands were more easily available to us here in the UAE. I recently discovered Acqua Colonia and I managed to find and buy 10 of them so far. Hoping to see their newer collection of EDP 🤞🏽 Cheers!

So I totally watched these out of order, but your comments about saffron and ambroxan sensitivity made me wonder if that’s why anything within the realm of Baccarat style fragrances give me hospital / dentist vibes.. ie, Cloud, Greenwich Village, etc..maybe it’s a combination of things because I do have some fragrances that have those notes and I love them. Maybe it’s a similar phenomenon to that of cilantro; some say it tastes like soap lol.. I definitely am sensitive to certain fragrances that smell like dill pickles to me yet others absolutely love them! Great video! ❤

Cherry and cinnamon is a great combo! I've been drinking lots of cinnamon water this week. I just put a cinnamon stick in a mug and steep it in boiling water for a bit. I fill it up during the day, I find it delicious 😋 I think I struggle with decision making sometimes, it can take me a long time to get around to making decisions. If I can avoid it and if I don't have a strong feeling of intuition, in general, I will dither! 🥰

The full movie is available on YT too actually, I linked it in the description box if you don't mind watching it on KZbin. I love how understated it is and how it's such a real subject with hard hitting themes for the time period. The atmosphere and noise of the trains really add to the feeling of it too. 🥰

There's a resurgance of Chanel No 5 love. (Not for me 😅) What a great question about your interest and career in science. I like getting to know you better. These are all great questions, so thanks to your viewers ❤ Violet Ida never seems to be available in the US 😢Regarding the US, there is a shameful distrust of science. Covid radicalized many people here. The choice question is an area where nonscientific propaganda flourishes. It's very difficult for a person like myself that values science. Vaccines are a modern miracle that allows humans to thrive. People began lumping in their distrust of covid vaccines to include whopping cough, measles, and even polio! Yikes. I better stop my rant 😂🇺🇸🦅

Have you ever heard of George Zaharoff fragrances before. He made his fragrance into a shave soap and it was awesome. Also....what do you think of duplicate fragrances, nice channel by the way, just subbed.

Yes my friend loves Signature Noir! I've not personally tried any though... I have this video on clone fragrances where I discuss the issues around them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npuQlYiChLqipLc I think for me, there are none that I've tried that have been absolutely spot on, although clearly many are very very close. I have no issue with them, I have one in my collection and happily wear it 🙂 I don't really seek them out though. I think if I did fall in love with something crazily expensive, I might be tempted to try a few clones though. Thanks for watching and for subbing. 🥰

Looking after people's pets is so important to people's wellbeing though. You don't need to be a scientist to make a huge difference to people's lives. People love their pets and wouldn't be able to relax if they left them with anyone they didn't trust. 🥰

Fabulous video as always!! 🤍 I found your comments about sensitivity to certain musks, ouds, and saffron very interesting. There is a type of musk I cannot tolerate and I wonder if it’s the same one you’re referencing. It ends up smelling like acetone or rubbing alcohol to me, burns my nose, and gets stuck in my nostrils and on my skin. Every other note in that fragrance is drowned out. I experienced it while trying Phlur Moonstone, Byredo Vanille Antique, Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder. Have you tried any of these and did you have the same experience? One of my favorite fragrances is Delina exclusif which does have ambroxan so maybe it’s a specific type of ambroxan that is giving me this immediate repulsion? I’m close to ordering a perfumers set of common notes for $100 and trying to isolate exactly what molecule it is.
@dr.claire.perfume2 ай бұрын
That's definitely one of the experiences I've had, especially with JHAG Pear Inc and Afnan Rare Tiffany. I will go try Vanilla Powder and see if I smell it. I found French Flower from MP unbearable because of whatever it is I don't enjoy... The drydown was just overtaken. I did try Vanille Antique but a long time ago and when I had about 4 other fragrances on me 😂 so I need to go spray it again and pay more attention. 😊 I think the problem is that there are many company specific, trademarked forms of ambroxan and related but slightly different compounds, e.g. cetalor, cetalor, ambrox, ambroxide, and then there are many other less related compounds.There's just so many different forms that without complete ingredient lists, you are going to have a hard time working out which is the problem for you. Good luck 🥰
@RosemarieFit2 ай бұрын
@@dr.claire.perfume thanks for the reply Claire!! You bring up a good point about these proprietary formulas. Seems like the only workaround here is to always sample everything in advance of buying no matter what, because you can’t trust the reviews or the scent profiles listed on any site. Blind buying is never good anyway so I suppose it’s for the best. Maybe we’re just special. 🙃 I’m neurodivergent and have a heightened sense of taste, and perfect color vision (trichromat). Now I wonder if this is because we’re super smellers.
@dr.claire.perfume2 ай бұрын
I think I am sensitive to certain things, I'm super observant. I have no idea whether I am a super smeller or not, but I know if there's a smell of burning in the lab, I'm always the first to point it out 😂 Blind buying is massively risky when you have these issues with certain ingredients and when you know that 95% of people aren't bothered by them at all and never mention them in reviews. 🤷♀️

I did already film part two as the original plan was one video but it would have been an hour long 🤦♀️ his channel is lingolord, he really only makes the occasional video for the classes that he teaches, so I think unless you are doing GCSE French with the same exam board as his school, it might not be the most helpful set of videos 🤣

Btw I would love to know the genes affecting tooth enamel if you are able to share. Such exciting research you are doing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@dr.claire.perfume2 ай бұрын
OMIM is always a good place to start with genetic diseases, although it's not always totally up to date e.g. here is the phenotypic series for isolated amelogenesis imperfecta www.omim.org/phenotypicSeries/PS104500 there are about 90 genes known in total to cause AI as part of a syndrome or in isolation. There are also some good free to read review articles available on Pubmed, including mine, although that is no longer the most up to date. 🥰
