I really enjoyed this review but especially the structure and longevity of the video. The style you spoke, the way of analyzing. It sounds honest, simple and so straightforward. Thank you Claire! (It's so tiring when a youtuber overdramatize a review so no-one knows if it's a real commercial or just a random act from Hamlet...) This is the right and helpful format one needs to get to know a relatively 'newish' brand. I've known the brand (exist) and JM's personal story behind it but I haven't tried any of its fragrances yet. This video has really made me wanna try them but already selectively. But that's why I'm here... Thank you for the clear objectivity :-)

Oh no worries! It's odd but it seems rare that influencers buy sample sets at all doesn't it?! It makes no sense 🤣 I really wanted to try these and my disappointment was strong when I realised how much the samples were from the brand and how sets only had 7 of their fragrances, I was pleased to find this set of 12 secondhand. My guess is that this is why there are so few reviews of the brands fragrances on KZbin. Well that and perhaps only very selective PR. I did really enjoy Mango Thai Lime, but I really don't think I'm the target audience for this set as citrus and vetiver are not my general scent preference. I did really appreciate that citrus in all of these fragrances was never ever sharp though. It made me feel that all of these are very calming and chilled. Thanks for watching and let me know if you try anything! 🥰

I agree! They are horrendously expensive! There is however a 7 fragrance set on Cult Beauty for £27 without the voucher. I really think all the fragrances in one set without a voucher would be a good thing for the brand to consider. White Rose and Lemon Leaves was lovely in the opening but not one I really enjoyed into the drydown. Sadly because of the cost, Space NK seems the best place to sniff these. I hope they have Mango Thai Lime 👌 thanks for watching 🥰

So great to hear your thoughts on all of these. And the history was really interesting. I have a travel of White Rose & Lemon Leaves which I got in that Space NK edit. I really enjoyed it to begin with but I think I have got a bit bored of it. The lemon in it reminds me of may chang oil actually. Thanks for putting this video together for us ❤
@dr.claire.perfume3 ай бұрын
My curiosity with this brand was piqued when I tried a few in Space NK in Leeds. I just thought they were a very different style to what you smell elsewhere so I wanted a discovery set. I was immensely disappointed to learn that to buy a discovery set, I'd be held at ransom with a £50 voucher being included... I don't think that's on at all. Clearly the brand have had discovery sets covering more of their range in the past, so why are these no longer sold?!!? White Rose & Lemon Leaves was lovely in the opening but not necessarily me in the drydown. I get the litsea cubea thing. It's a lighter softer, more floral feeling oily lemon. Happy you enjoyed the video 🥰

I left a long comment about 20 minutes before this one and it's gone! That has happened a few times in the past couple of weeks on different people's videos, I think KZbin is having some issues! 🤪 Or maybe it was because I posted the price that I had found for the Jo loves samples on Scentbird ? Maybe KZbin thought I was trying to sell something lol 😂 anyways, to sum it up, I just had said what an amazing story she had, and that I was emotional when you said she got her sense of smell back 🥹💖 And I mentioned that there were only three of these scents available on Scentbird. Hopefully this one doesn't get flagged, since I'm not using an actual dollar sign symbol! 😅 Lol -oh and I also said that I had never been drawn to try this brand because most of them seem very citrusy or herbal which I don't typically go for. I think that is everything! And if the other comment ends up showing up and you're having to read this all twice, I'm sorry! 😂😂❤
@dr.claire.perfume3 ай бұрын
Mango Thai Lime is the only one here I'd consider a bottle of I think. I agree with you, I don't think citrus and vetiver is for me and that cuts out a lot of these. They have a very distinctive house style. I think Jo's personal story is very powerful and a big part of the brand overall. I hope the samples on Scentbird are more reasonably priced than the 2ml ones here eeek! Sorry that YT deleted your comment. It seems to be a trend of late. I wish we, as channel owners, had more control over what gets filtered and what not. Thanks for watching 🥰

Even though my stash is going down, I still have a soft spot for Jo Malone. Her story's so inspirational, and back then, there weren't many female perfume brand owners. Mango Thai Lime's certainly my favourite from what I've tested; this morning, I ordered a 7 piece discovery set from Cult Beauty. Mango mousse is delicious 😋
@dr.claire.perfume3 ай бұрын
I can understand that entirely. She seems a passionate person who was self taught as a perfumer. I find it really odd how the Jo Loves website doesn't have the sample sets without the voucher, yet Cult Beauty do 🤷♀️ it's good at that the samples are more affordable there. 👍

Interesting g about the discovery kit price. I just looked it up here in Australia, and the stockist has the 7 x 2ml set for $A56 which is about £28-29. No voucher for a full bottle, but I prefer the cheaper price to try. Still using up quite a few other discovery sets, so will pass on this one. Thanks for another detailed and well thought out video Claire. 😃🇦🇺

Thanks! ❤️ I checked on other websites here and on Cult Beauty there are sets of 7 fragrances without the vouchers for £27, I do wonder why the brand doesn't sell those directly? I can't see the set of 12 that I have anywhere though. I wonder why the brand doesn't just have a set containing most of their fragrances at a more affordable price on their own website?! I agree with you, I don't want to have to buy a voucher to try something. 🥰

Hi Claire, what a good idea for a video. I was interested in Jo loves quite early on and purchased Red Truffle 21, a gourmand fig, quite beautiful and Gardenia (discontinued) one of my favorite gardenias with Un Matin d'Orage edt and Elie Saab Essence Gardenia, fresh and true with a little bit of jasmine and no tuberose, which I dislike with gardenia, it is no longer in production for some reason, replaced with something called Golden Gardenia, completely different fragrance it seems. I gifted Green orange and coriander to my brother because he loves sweet citrus. I was very interested in your reviews of the newer scents, many thanks for that and am delighted we agree on Mango Thai Lime, I found it delicious and original.

Hey Claire. As always you have shared some less known information about a perfumer. I know all too well about losing your sense of taste and smell after chemo. It makes it quite challenging if you love scents. I also noticed quite a few comments about how Estée Lauder can own her name. Well, that’s not just EL. I won’t take the story too far back but look up Halston and Prince’s stories. It’s a somewhat standard business practice if you aren’t aware of the terms and conditions of contracts. (I negotiate contracts for a living.) It’s essentially why Prince used a symbol for his name to protect his interest. I intend to look into the new house and hope I can find something that I like. I only own and like two of her other perfumes so I’ll keep you posted.
@dr.claire.perfume3 ай бұрын
I can't imagine how hard it must be to go through chemo, let alone the seemingly relatively mild side effect of losing your sense of smell, it must really seem to suck the sparkle and enjoyment out of things. Ooh I just read about Halston! Yes that does sound sad that he even attempted to buy back his old company. I do understand the power of brands and names so I understand that EL weren't probably making any special case here, it's probably a standard clause. I bet it's something they have with Kilian, Frederic Malle, probably a few others! Which two do you own from Jo Malone? The only one I have is Pomegranate Noir, but I remember trying the mimosa fragrance and really enjoying that. Have a lovely Sunday. 🥰

I've tried quite a few from the original brand that is now owned by Estée Lauder, Jo Malone, I think if you want longer lasting, go for the darker bottles as those are cologne intense versions. But the overall idea really with them is to layer isn't it? Over skincare and with their other fragrances. I only have one, which is called Pomegranate Noir and is really quite Christmassy and clovey, that one lasts a long time on me, 6+ hours. It's definitely a brand to try if you come across them in store, because longevity and style is in general very different to other things I've tried. 🥰

You can, although I may not know the answer. 😂
@chams943 ай бұрын
I was concerned about things : About why N does not replace O directly Why OH takes the second H not from NH I think Order of Stages plays a role Look at this and tell if I'm wrong or right I want simplest way to understand that I interpreted it like that ( Nucleofelic attack I didn't mention because its simple so far because N got 2 electrons it is negative compare to C in C=O is positive so C is nucleofely (target) than breaks the double bond to form bond with O and NH2) ok, I think the main challenge lies in the following: 1. The Carbon in R-NH-C-OH: In this stage, both the OH group and the R-NH group are stable, as they have achieved their octet. However, the carbon between these two groups prefers to continue bonding with only one of them. It cannot stably maintain both at the same time (though I am not entirely sure why). 2. Breaking the Bond with OH: If carbon attempts to form a double bond with nitrogen (C=N), it won't achieve stability while still attached to the OH group. To stabilize, it needs to eliminate the OH group. In the meantime, both the OH and NH groups pull on the carbon.( electrons density) 3. Why OH Leaves First: Since OH is more electronegative than NH, it attracts an extra hydrogen. This attraction occurs before the formation of the double bond between C=N, causing the OH group to detach from the carbon, as if carbon is "pushing it away." 4. Formation of Water and Double Bond (C=N): When water (H₂O) is released, the nitrogen ends up with four bonds, giving it a positive charge. To neutralize itself, nitrogen releases a hydrogen atom. A Remaining Question: Where Does the Extra H Go? The hydrogen released from the C=N bond is not the one responsible for forming the water molecule. So, it seems that this extra H must join the water molecule, solving many of the remaining issues. Some Issues: Are positive and negative charges tied to the free electrons within the molecule? Where does oxygen get the extra electron? Thanks

I agree, I found a set of 7 without the vouchers on Cult Beauty, but why would that be priced effectively lower than the set with the voucher (£27 + 50 < £85) perhaps it's old stock? I don't understand why there not a set covering more of the fragrances really. Weirdly the scents are described as parfums on the website, yet in the FAQs, they are said to be EDTs. I think that's a bit misleading. With regard to the older brand, the cologne intense fragrances do last longer in general. But also I have Pomegranate Noir and I find that to be really long lasting, although I think that's perhaps the exception! Thanks for watching! 🥰

Thank you for this video Claire. Foumd her brand on IG this year or last and have been following her account. 💖❤

No worries! I enjoyed trying these, even if they weren't all for me.

85 pounds for 7 samples is INSANE!

I totally agree! 🤣 I would not have made this review without spotting that sample set secondhand... I can't afford to drop £120 on 12 samples 🤣

I know! Quite apart from what else was going on in her life, that on top as a perfumer must have been a big loss. 🥰
