How did Berlin become the techno capital of the world?
@Shirley.Temper
@Shirley.Temper 3 жыл бұрын
Probably because after the wall fell there was so much empty space in the old east of the city that it saw a cultural boom; artists, musicians and producers made good use of the space and set up their own clubs and creative spaces which, unlike during the DDR, would be limitless and they would have the freedom to express themselves more. Like most of the clubs you saw were in old warehouses or disused building (like the old Tresor was under an old shopping centre I believe). Most of these clubs became queer-safe-spaces and general safe spaces for creative exploration, and that’s why the clubs today still have that emphasis. Berlins always been a very artistic and creative city even from the 1920s so it bounced back in the 90s and just grew from there! It’s crazy the amount of history that actually the Berlin music scene actually has and it’s super interesting to read about

I've huge respect for Germans and Germany in general. After all the tragedies and difficult situations Germans had faced over the years, they still fought back and built their nation. Their economy, education, social security, healthcare systems; all are well rounded. Most importantly, they are humble enough to revisit history and learn from it. I'm considering to pursue my master's degree in Germany and can't wait to study in this amazing country. Also not to mention, German language is very sophisticated and has a different elegance to it. Much love ❤️

it is not well researched, It is the retarded radical leftist point of view which is spreading more and more and is the reason why Berlin is a shithole/slum and needs money from other states. The city is ruled by communists, it has the shittiest education system (which produces more leftists) and is filled with people from the 3rd world.

Furniture on the street doesn’t necessarily make a place “dirty”. And its not what makes it dirty in Berlins case. Although it doesnt help. It just has alot of straight up trash everywhere. Specially in the green spaces and streets, people just leave food containers, broken bottles, drug paraphernalia, and just random stuff. And its not just alittle its ALOT of it everywhere. Green-spaces are also not kept very well and theres lots of smaller vandalism as well. Lets not even mention the tag graffiti. Which to a point people can tolerate but there is not 1 empty blank space that doesn’t get tagged.

@Sergio Delgado, you’ve nailed it. And that’s what really bothers me about Berlin (and I am german), but also in many more huge cities on this planet. I dont know why people have to drop their trash EVERYWHERE and cannot keep places nicely and clean. I personally feel very uncomfortable with the dirt.

Maybe have a civic group sponsor trash cans. It works. I'm concerned about the needles. Give people portable sharps containers. Also have public health workers go to a park once a month. People can turn in needles or old meds no questions asked.

Nice video. A couple of other things to add: One of the reasons Berlin is different and is related to your comment that it is a magnet for those who don‘t fit in in the rest of Germany is that young people living in Berlin were exempt from military conscription back when that was still a thing. That attracted a lot of counter-culture and activist types. Also, I had an interesting conversation with a young Italian woman. She loved Berlin because it‘s so clean. I guess it‘s what you‘re used to.

I think that also the reason why some people might think that Berlin (and other bigger 'cosmopolitan' cities for that matter) is ugly, is because those big cities are getting more modern and more contemporary in comparison to smaller cities and towns that usually preserve that typical feel. I live in Belgrade in Serbia, and I can see that, comparing Belgrade which feel so strange and not cozy at all in comparison to some other smaller places, like Kragujevac, Novi Sad or Subotica

You're talking about Berlin and I am ticking the boxes how all of these questions are actually valid about my hometown Kolkata. It has the same reputation in all of India because people misunderstand a lot of things about the city in which I grew up in and love the most. And this makes Berlin quite interesting to me. I guess it will feel like home if I visit someday.

I lived in Berlin for 6 Months before moving to Cologne where I’m living now. Regret the decision everyday

@@raymondsilva7691 Why do you regret?? I'm born and live in Cologne, it's nice to live here. Different than Berlin of course, but the people here are more friendly and we don't have the cold winds in winter like Berlin. ;-)

Berlin reminds me of Austin, TX in a few ways. Both are full of weirdness and young people, both are experiencing significant population growth, both have rising costs, and both are home to plenty of startups. Great places to be!
