I’m currently taking an end of year break, so instead of a tutorial, today I’m answering some of the questions I get asked most! We’re also talking about the past and what I have planned for 2021.
I hope the end of this wild year has you well rested and healthy. I’m so excited to see what 2021 brings us!

When you went there with the honesty about anxiety and depression it hit me in all the feels. I've been in the dark place in my head too many times. Thank you for sharing that. Thanks to you, I went from sewing a mask to making full on bags to having a business name. You, this, sewing, creating is my therapy. This has kept me sane(ish) for 2020. The hum of the machine. Buying fabric!!!!!! Upgrading from a 1980's Kenmore to a Juki. YOU make me feel like I can do anything!! YOU helped me this year and YOU helped thousands and thousands of us. Thank you. 2021 can only get better!!!

I have anxiety and panic attacks along with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Fibromyalgia and more. I had to quit teaching due to my illnesses. I lost my identity when I had to give up what defined me. I was teacher, then I wasn't. I felt lost, useless, and unfulfilled. Sewing helps fill that void. I love making things and feel like I have accomplished something. My house stays a mess, but no one visits anyway, lol! Thank you, Jess, for all you do. You are my inspiration!

I identify with you on the..er...loss of identity with a change in work/life. In my case it was voluntary but still hard to make that switch from "hey! I am a smart person who does important things in the world" to "Umm...I live in pajamas and create all day long". You'll make the switch and you'll love your life even more. And look for your physical ailments to improve as well. God bless you

Thank you so much for this real and genuine Q & A. I can relate so much, I lost my mom in 2019 and a couple months after we got the official diagnosis for our special needs son. It was a rough time. I can also relate to the constant work. I throw myself fully into the things I enjoy and I am not exaggerating when I say I NEVER sit down unless Im in front of the sewing machine. Wishing you lots of positives for 2021, I hope its a better year for us all.

Jessica, you have been a great inspiration to me through your videos and a way for me to focus on something other than what was going on around me. 2019 and 2020 have both been trying years for me as well. In September of 2019 we found out that my husband had stage 4 non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. Suddenly our lives changed in ways we never dreamed of. To escape what was happening, at least for an hour or two, I turned to your videos more and more. I’ve seen most of them more then once and you’ve helped me to make some of those bags! I look forward to the respite I get from watching your videos. Just so you know, there is a happy and hopeful ending to my story. My husband got a liver transplant just 7 days ago, and yes I watched one of your videos while he was in surgery, and he’s doing great! Thank you for just being who you are!

I just started making bags this year -- you’ve helped me select several fun patterns and figure out how to sew the tricky parts. What surprised me most in this video was learning you have a full time job (wow!), and you’re a computer programmer (wow!). Thank you for this video, I appreciate your honesty on time management. That expression at 33:30 sums up how I feel about what I did with my quarantine time when I thought I'd have more undisturbed time to create. Well, I made nothing, ha! But I did binge watch everyone else's creativity. 😊

Jess I’m a little late to the Oklaroots party but it’s so worth it. This video made me cry… you have inspired me to just do it! Every time I feel unsure of myself in my head or in my crafts I just watch you now and it makes me feel so much better. When you say “use what you’ve got” it’s like you can read mg mind. You are so sweet to talk about some of your personal demons, it helps “us” (mom, women, crafters) not feel alone. I wish you the best, and sorry for your loss :(

I love your channel and tutorials. I am so happy I came across this video and got to know more about you on a personal level. I lost my little sister in August of 2019 and my family's world stopped. She passed two weeks after having the youngest of her 6 children. There arent words to describe the grief we all felt. Then like you said the world stopped for everyone in 2020. I bought the cheapest machine I could find at Walmart and started making masks. I wanted to help others and it helped me to do so.

Yes! I have anxiety depression ptsd. I use sewing as my form of meditation. It keeps my mind focused. The challenge is that it makes me want to only work in my sewing room.

Jess thank you so much for sticking with your channel and enriching all of us with your tutorials. I learned how to sew handbags in 2020 because YOU taught me! I do want to grow my business as well (I’m a soap maker and I make other bath and body products.) but now I want to add things I’ve sewn because they’ve turned out so awesome. I hope 2021 is a great year for us both. 2020 was a rough year for all of us, and on top of that I lost a very close friend and have had health issues of my own.
