There is the "egg prime directive", where you shouldn't ever tell someone that you think they're trans if they've not come to that conclusion themselves. Very rarely will that go well, whether you are right or wrong. Self actualization is incredibly important, the better route is to just let them see healthy trans perspective and if it resonates with them they will have the tools to figure themselves out. Also just being a good friend to those in your life, if they have a coming out it'll be good to make it so they have an environment where they feel safe/comfy for that! Egg is a good term itself, but yeah, never call someone an Egg. I favour the usage where someone who is out as trans retrospects like "yeah in my past life before I cracked my egg". Like its good vocabulary to have, just don't try and out someone who may not even be out to themselves.

I'm the aforementioned afab demigirl that identifies as both enby and trans haha. For me, when I first came to terms with being non binary, I hesitated to call myself trans because I didn't experience a lot of body dysphoria(mostly social), I didn't want to medically transition at all, kept my birth name, etc. Basically, I didn't think I was trans enough and I was almost scared to call myself trans, which internalised transphobia definitely played a part in, as well as truscum mentalities that you have to experience dysphoria to be trans. But the discomfort with being called a girl and being seen as one was just too much, plus I definitely felt more neutral most of the time, so I got more and more comfortable with the label, knowing that it's about personal choice than how others see you, if that makes sense? Definitely not saying that's the case for other enby people who don't identify as trans, this is just my personal experience :)

I’m not a parent, so I can’t say from experience, but what I’ve heard from others is that it can help to allow parents and others who knew you well as your previous gender a “mourning period” to mourn the loss of their “daughter”. But then they should also realize they are gaining a son. I know it’s probably annoying and frustrating to hear stuff like that from your dad, but it could help him to get over it faster if you tell him that’s okay and valid to experience missing his “little girl”, but just like everyone else (including cis people), you’ve grown up and are a different person now, it just so happens that part of your growing up is being trans. And while he may have fond memories where he perceived you as his “daughter”, it’s not that you want him to forget the fond memories, you just want to make new fond memories as his son going forward. Maybe it could help a little, but either way, good luck!

On the egg thing: I can actually tell a story from my own life that directly relates to this one. I have a friend who is a trans woman. She was about 15 when we met, well before she realized that she's trans. My best friend is also our mutual friend. I am about five years older than my trans woman friend (I'll call her "Aurora.") and my best friend ("Amelia") is nearly 10 years older than me, 15 years older than Aurora. I'm Agender, and at that point in time, still didn't come to that conclusion, but knew what struggling with knowing your gender looks like since I'd done it for so long. Amelia admits that she may be considered Nonbinary in some ways, but doesn't want to be known as that. Plus, she's just significantly older and has a ton of life experience on top of that. So, Amelia and I STRONGLY suspected Aurora was a trans woman well before she really got into experimenting with it. So! Did we confront her about it? Tell her directly that we know she's a trans girl? Constantly bring up trans topics when she was around? No!!!! Do NOT do that!!!! A journey of gender identity is something VERY personal, and takes time, reflection, introspection, and experimentation. So, how could we support then? What did we do? We gave her space to grow! When she said she wanted to try certain clothing, we didn't bring up gender. When she brought up femboy stuff, we kept our mouths shut. When she started experimenting with her online presence, we addressed her how she wanted and made no other comment. When the day came that she came out? We accepted her and started using the names and pronouns she wanted right away, and fended off anyone who tried to be fucking rude! After the dust had settled, THEN we casually remarked that we had known for some time, and had a good laugh about it. THAT is how you support someone through their questioning and experiments. Not pushing the topic on them all the time and insisting things, but instead, with openness and acceptance of the changes that come.

My little brother was the most obvious egg ever, I wouldn't be too surprised if he actually had known for some time and was testing the waters. My favorite was "I want to go on T, but not like...because I'm trans. I just want to confuse people about my gender." Anyway, yeah, I kept it to myself for the next year before he came out to me, besides switching to "my little sibling" and such online when talking about him. I once considered telling someone they might be an egg. Before you get alarmed, I didn't. But they're actually quite old and might have been trying to confide in me about gender stuff and for a brief period I considered talking to them because what if they die before realizing? Then I decided that death comes for us all and we don't know when. But I wonder about that person all the time and hope they're alright and that they might find what makes them happy.

There were like 3 guys in my class if you exclude me and one other trans guy that I know of) - SOMETIMES I "baby talk" to my cat - I like to look at interesting fabric designs, EVEN IF IT'S A DRESS. (I hate to wear them but don't mind looking and can tell when a dress is nice.) - I have plants. Many plants. I love plants. Just like, haha, my mom. (Fuck haters because the air in my room is CRISPY!) - I don't necessarily like a lot of "traditionally manly stuff" (Like hard rock or whatever, never been into shooter games as much or like, vehicles.) - I wasn't very... boy-ish as a kid, more like, very disobedient. (I wore dresses, skirts, I played with dolls, etc.) I already doubt myself like every evening because of all this and whenever someone asks me if I'm sure I need to leave the same space and sit down somewhere and remind myself that the only thing that matters when it comes to my identity is that I feel more myself and comfortable when people perceive me as a guy. However I can't wait for people to tell me "Guys who like the things you do are usually gay though." because CHECK MATE, I'M HOMOSEXUAL. I LIKE GUYS. Little bonus little tiny thing: I have this nifty mental illness that is 99% of the time represented by female individuals in the media and it makes me so angry when people say "guys don't have this illness" like,,, are we really going to gender mental issues? Cool. (This is also a reason why I am obsessed with any media that has a male character with lot of my problems like this, even if consuming it might be unhealthy for me sometimes.)

It's so silly because there are literally **thousands** of cis men who have the same likes/dislikes as you (of any and all sexualities, not just gay). I **hadn't** considered literally every other possibility before deciding to tell you, thanks for pointing that out.." 🙄 Also, I really don't think it's inherently unhealthy to consume media that you strongly relate to in some way. @@stephenholland4441 Two questions: 1. Why do you use God and the Bible to justify your bigotry when there are so many rules that we ALL break like: • Wearing gold (“Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.”) • Getting round haircuts ( “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.”) • No work on Sundays (“Six days shall work be done: but the seventh is the sabbath of rest a holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings) • Not buying houses (“The land must never be sold on a permanent basis, for the land belongs to me. And with that, I’d like to ask how many of these rules you actively follow with your heart and soul. If you aren’t going to comply with God’s word, why use it to be a dickhead to other people? 2. When you boil down the idea of two genders male and female, you’re basically talking about one’s sex, whether that have a penis or vagina. Scientific studies have been conducted that have concluded that people who are trans, people who are non binary and people who fall into the labels of different identities (like gender fluid, neutrois, demigirl/boy, gender queer and more) all experience gender differently. Studies were taken from the brain activity of many non-cis individuals that found the brain functions of said individuals to be different from their cis counterparts. I acknowledge that there are more than two genders, you however clearly do not. Is it because you hold such vintage beliefs? Is it because you are scared of changes in society? Are you not willing to try to accept those of us who are different? I KNOW who I am and what my identity stands for. You can NEVER take that away from me. Not one person here can invalidate someone with a clear conscience, especially if you’re a fond follower of religious teachings. Religion isn’t a construct on which the belittling of minority groups was intended. Religion is supposed to enhance the communion of society. Don’t ever use that as an argument when there are many other religious followers who are perfectly able of conceiving non binary gender identities. Bonus question: Why are you on Noah’s channel when you’re clearly transphobic? What good does that bring? Any?

It's NOT "bigotry", or "transphobia" though, it's FACTS! 🙄 "And with that, I’d like to ask how many of these rules you actively follow..." You mean laws that were a part of the old covenant? Then none, because some of those were done away with some 2000s years ago after the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. None of us are going to fully comply with God's word, because of our sinful nature and rebellion against God. That's why we need a Saviour to be washed from the stains of sin. Faith is what saves, not works. "I acknowledge that there are more than two genders..." Let me tell you are harsh truth: Anything more than two genders, IS FICTION! "Are you not willing to try to accept those of us who are different?" They aren't "different", they are DELUDED, and should be treated as mentally unstable! "Is it because you are scared of changes in society?" Yeah. The changes are called CORRUPTION, INSANITY, IMMORALITY, and DEPRAVITY! "I KNOW who I am and what my identity stands for." So you, a male who calls himself "agender" (when there is no such thing as "agender"), "knows" who he is, while making up a false identity? Yeah that really sounds like you "know" who you are...NOT! "Not one person here can invalidate someone with a clear conscience..." Are you talking about yourself?! If so, then no, you DON'T have a "clear conscience" if you're calling yourself something as fictitious as "agender". Religion and Christianity are separate. I’m non-binary and afab, I want to use any/all pronouns, but since I’m not out to many people I feel insecure abt saying that. I can’t say what it looks like from the outside, but strangers are constantly gendering me in different ways (calling me “sir” or “miss”) so I think I present pretty androgynously. An answer for the gender neutral name changing: My dead name was gender neutral but I still changed it because it was more popular in females and people would assume I was a girl, and I talked to my friends and they said when they first met me they didn’t know my deadname was gender neutral and thought it was just a female name.
@shelbymasters2 жыл бұрын
most gender neutral names were originally associated with one sex, or had different variations for each sex. alex was an abbreviation for alexander/alexis and eventually just became a popular name itself. my boyfriend is ci, and his birth name is skylAr, but spells it as skylEr because he prefers that spelling even though skylar with an a was originally a boys name and skyler with an e was a girl name. i do understand though, my name was strictly a boys name for a very long time, but now 98% of people with the name are girls. i also went to school with cis girls names michael and hunter! if i have another daughter i plan to name her tyler, but ironically enough i hate that name in regards to guys lol

ok a question more for the people in the comments rather than Noah but has anyone else had this experience of being fine with your birth gender for the majority of your life but the more you are being directly referred to as THAT the more you are uncomfortable with it? I am a biological man and now at 21 having lived with a father who tries to make me into a self-centred hypermasc sexist trash I hate being referred to as a man/guy/boy. I also heard that not understanding gender as a concept is common for neurodivergent people - and I am one - so now I identify as agender and use all pronouns but idk. is distancing yourself from your birth gender after being beaten to death with it a common thing or do I just need therapy 💀
@mikealheit81162 жыл бұрын
I guess I have a similar sort of experience because I didn't really feel uncomfortable being gendered female even after coming out as agender for a while and then dysphoria suddenly hit me like a delayed freight train a while after when i was still hearing people call me 'she' (even though at the time I used all pronouns) like I was a girl, so maybe it's a thing of not feeling super uncomfortable with it just because people didn't overly highlight it so you ended up thinking of it as gender-neutral in your head? (I'm probably not explaining well but that was kinda my experience with it)

From my own experience as a trans guy, who struggled a lot (and still do) with being a guy because of all the hyper toxic masculinity I wouldn't say not liking being grouped with guys is necessarily a sign of not being one. But for me, I know that being considered one makes more sense than anything else, even when I hate it. If it doesn't for you, I would say it definitely is a sign and thinking you're trans when you're not is actually much rarer than the opposite :) But in the end, only you can tell who you are and thinking about what you need/would like gender-wise instead of how to identify could also be helpful. I'm sorry you had to go through it and wish you the best ^^
@catz5372 жыл бұрын
It's interesting you say that cuz I'm autistic (AFAB) but I don't like being referred to as a "woman" - not necessarily because I associate negative things with the word, but I just don't feel like that word describes me. As I've gotten older, I like being called a "girl" less and less too, but that could just be an aversion to being infantilized. Idk, it's hard to tell the difference sometimes between not liking when people use certain pronouns/gendered words to describe you because you don't identify with that gender as a whole, or simply because you don't identify with something related to that specific word. Or maybe you just don't identify with *some* parts of what you were taught about what it means to be a "man" or a "woman." To my neurodivergent brain, gender just isn't real. It's a made up concept and all the ideas about gender and what it's supposed to mean is meaningless because everyone has different ideas for themselves about what it means, and about what their specific gendered identity means. One man could have a completely different idea of his gender than another man, even though they both identify as men. So it just seems really strange to me that we still try to categorize and cling to this abstract thing
@auntieaoife2 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely. I always knew there was something different about me but I wasn't really able to identify it until I was almost 36, before which I would have said I was comfortable with my gender. Knowing changed that, and I couldn't ever be comfortable as a man ever again.

it's an interesting point about non-binary people calling themselves trans. I'm agender, but often say non-binary because it's an umbrella term and it's easier to explain, but I do not say that I'm trans. By definition, trans means that you identify with a gender that you were not assigned at birth, but as an agender person I do not identify with a gender so by definition it does not fit me. I still consider myself to be trans-allinged because I still experience the same transphobia and exclusion that all trans people face, by I am not by definition a trans person. When I explain this to cis people it blows their mind that I can be non-binary and not be trans. If we lived in a world where trans people were completely free and equal - a utopia - then I would not consider myself trans aligned because I would face no prejudice on the behalf of my identity and I would just exist as an agender person.

i've never actually seen this question, but i think they just haven't realized that you need a uterus to have a period. surprisingly even most biological women don't know that all a period is, is when the lining of your uterus sheds as the result of an unfertilized egg. when pregnant your uterus doesn't shed because it is what forms the placenta, which is why pregnant women don't have periods. (so if a woman eats the placenta after giving birth, she is eating 8-10 months of menstrual blood.) so it definitely would be a medical concern😅

As a non-binary person who hasn’t really made any changes to “transition” per say and doesn’t plan to, I don’t usually refer to myself as trans, but if other trans people want to include someone like me in the trans umbrella, I’m fine with that. But also, I don’t really consider myself cis either, so some people say if you’re not cis, then by definition you must be trans, which kind of makes sense to me. 6:42 It's mostly just that the skin shrivels a bit more because of the reduction in swelling bodies being used just to keep them healthy (spontaneous erections) but the amount of swelling is typically retained. It's a common misconception that the penis becomes much smaller, it just appears a bit different but it can still get back to size when erect (which is why the reduction in healthy swelling can cause pain when it does swell because it's needed, especially in the beginning of HRT). What does shrink however, are the testicles, they return to pre-puberty size (this was the case for me on cyproterone-acetate). 7:28 Fun stuff, that was my old name, and I changed it because I wanted to make sure people could not be in doubt about my gender, given that my profession according to some people is not particularly feminine. Another thing that a lot of people suggested I'd do (feminize my birth-name) was not something I was keen on doing, given the fact that there have been a couple attempts of trying to bully me in elementary school when my behaviour was easier to associate with the girls than with the boys with boys using that feminised version of my birth-name. Given how I was exceptionally confused for hearing that name, because in 1 way I liked it and in another I didn't understand why boys were giving me a girls name, I didn't want to be reminded of that everytime I would hear my name. (Also, most people who suggested that option as unwanted advice at that time typically didn't know that Iris was also basically thought up by my parents in the case they would've gotten girl twins instead of boy twins, so they felt I should pay some more respect to the name my parents gave me).

@@atlas3611 parents try to protect thier young from making huge mistakes in life. What you feel at the moment is real....but as we age we change mindset, opinions. The teen years are the most turbulent years of any persons life. As I said.....sometimes parents know you better than you know yourself. We have been through the teen years, it's a time of questioning who you are, finding your identity and it starts at puberty. So dont hold it against yr parents for trying to bring you up without harm. The fact they question your judgement, should tell you how much they love you and want you to grow into a strong, secure, happy independent individual. Parents get it more than you will ever believe or understand. You will one day, especially if you have children yourself. The pitfalls of teen years a very very confused self discovery maze to navigate through. This is not invalidating how you feel...its about supporting you to making sure your not creating a mistake that you could all regret in time. Your sure now....but that might just change as you grow. Then again it might not. But parents have to protect, if that seems they are denying you...they aren't. In fact by questioning your mindset, their actually testing you, making you question yr decisions, so the decisions you make are true to your inner self. Parents parent. Its thier job.
@lucas_85142 жыл бұрын
@@Sam-zu5mr it's perfectly okay for parents to question a major thing such as identity, but it still should be done tactfully. saying things like that still comes of as invalidating, and that will only make the child distance themselves. also, if they're being downright dismissive (as op's mom seems to be) then it's definitely not only about protecting them from making a mistake, and there's some hate for the group the child could be part of if i's not a phase involved.

I'm non-binary and I do actually consider myself trans, I experience dysphoria, I want to transition medically and I don't really identify with my agab but much more (though not fully) with being a guy. But just like Noah said, it really is different for everybody, I know lots of nb people who do and who don't consider themselves trans :)

10:00 I think this one can be a bit of a misunderstanding? It’s usually used for people who aren’t ready to commit to the word trans yet, and I’m pretty sure it’s very uncommon where it’s a label other people call you an egg. Like, it’s usually trans people who feel like they aren’t “trans enough”, they vent about experiences that to outsiders seem very trans, and like, unusual for a cis person, and then slap a “still cis tho” on the end of it. From my experience it’s more of a joke about trans people feeling like they need to reach a certain level of trans to be accepted or valid

i have a question! would a trans person gravitate more towards dating a bi/pan person because that person wouldn't really care what they have "down there" as opposed to a straight/gay person who might have a preference?
@Iisho2 жыл бұрын
That's a little situational, based on the "who might have a preference" bit. (nearly everyone has preferences, and I'm not only talking about what they prefer their partner/s to have "down there") Personally I don't really "gravitate" towards people of a certain sexuality. Just gotta see if they're cool with what you got.
@user-if9pb1fz9w2 жыл бұрын
Hi I'm non binary so I can't speak for trans men or women, but for me yes I exclusively date bi, pan, demisexual ect people because tbh it's just much easier, especially being masc non binary because alot of time gay men and straight woman expect something that's just u know.... Not there and it can get ugly real fast. Multi sexual people (in my experience) just tend to adapt a bit better and be less rigid in what they want bedroom wise. However just have to say this isn't always that case, u just kinda have to be careful.
@nicokelly64532 жыл бұрын
I think that definitely depends. Because bi/pan people can also have preferences (and can also be transphobic), while there are some gay and straight people who won't care. I think bi/pan people are more likely not to care, but it really depends. I don't gravitate toward any particular sexuality necessarily, so long as the person is respectful and recognizes my gender identity and isn't anti-trans.

OK so I figured myself out, he/him pronouns make me most comfortable but I still get so paranoid that I'm faking all this for attention (even when I know I wouldn't) and that's because I don't like any of the typically masculine things and don't have dysphoria that badly. I mostly feel a longing for a male life, but I feel so feminine and I hate it about myself. I'm scared that if I don't for some reason always think about being a guy that I'm not and I am a girl, but whenever people refer to me as my birth name or feminine pronouns it sticks in my head and I'm unhappy with it. The major issue is not having dysphoria a lot of the time, which I don't know might get worse when I come out- it got worse after telling 1 person. The fact my experience has been so different to the things I hear on social media makes me doubt who I am even more. I don't know maybe I'm just having a hard time accepting myself. I'd appreciate some advice though please?

When you chose your "new name" did you feel euphoric when you hear other people say it? (I am non-binary and wanna know what if I should feel euphoric or not) can you like so Noah sees it?
@myra02242 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it 100% depends on you. I do feel like a lot of people would feel relieved and happy when people use their real name instead of their deadname, but euphoric is a big word 😅 But you don't HAVE to feel a certain way just because someone else did. You'll figure it out yourself if you want people to call you by a different name and they use it 💖 Personally, I do feel a bit more happy when someone uses a nickname they made for me (I'm not sure about my gender identity yet as I honestly don't identify with any of them) instead of my birthname

When I told my friends to use a new name on me, it did make me feel euphoric when they said it, because it just felt right. But it depends on you as a person, to some it can feel weird for a bit because that’s not what your used to, and that’s perfectly fine!!

7:30 I'll answer this from my perspective: kinda. That is, my chosen name is the feminine form of my birth name. While my full birth name is definitely masculine, I used to go by "Kris" before coming out, which is gender neutral, and now only go by "Kristy" which is distinctly feminine.
@asherikamichaela84252 жыл бұрын
Newbie around here, so... hi! 😁👋 I can answer the nonbinary trans question, at least from my own experience. Maybe it'll help someone else. I'm afab and genderfluid/neutral, mostly the latter. I'm also neurodivergent and I think this has something to do with my gender and sexuality (I'm demi-pan as well). All this being the case, the term "girl" never really felt like it fit. Neither did "boy," though I often gravitated more toward things "traditionally" guy-related. These days, I'm more in the middle in terms of my interests and my feelings about my gender is kinda just "meh 🤷♀️." As such, I've never dealt with gender dysphoria. I am thinking of changing my name and will be going for a consultation soon about having the associated parts removed, but my reasons aren't really related aside from the fact that I don't care enough to keep them around. On the name thing, well, I share with a certain Greek tragedy character whose family Freud had _disturbing_ interest in. It's hard af for most people to pronounce to boot, so... nah. The surgery, on the other hand, would be for medical reasons. My hormones have been wild ever since I hit puberty and it's gotten to the point that it's actually debilitating. It's even put me in the hospital twice with the need for transfusions. So taking all that out would greatly improve my health. May or may not go for top surgery too since that is also an issue, just not as bad. (Let’s put it this way. I developed early and a _lot,_ to the to the point that I passed for 20 at 16. I could never do more than jog for a short distance before it became painful. I'd just rather not deal with them too if I can get away with it.) All this to say that, while I'm an enby, I don't consider myself trans, though I can see why others would in their own situations. It really does depend on the person.

okay, i need someone to help me with my gender identity crisis. i am genderqueer, which means my gender identity is somewhere between male and female. the way i experience being genderqueer is comparable to being genderfluid, but with a distinct difference. genderfluid is to have your gender identity change at times. like, sometimes you'll feel like a girl, and other times you'll feel like a boy, or inbetween. it's the actual changing of your gender identity. the reason why i compare my genderqueerness to genderfluidness is because instead of my actual gender identity changing, my gender expression changes. like, sometimes i feel more feminine, or more masculine, or more androgynous. the reason i bring all this up is because i want to look like an actual guy sometimes, but i'm afab (assigned female at birth) and my lover is obsessed with my female body. he's pan, so i think he'd be okay with it, but i can't be sure and i'm too scared to ask. i think i will today, though, so i'll keep y'all updated. how do i: 1. confront my lover about my gender expression issues? 2. properly express how masculine or feminine i am while being in the closet? thanks for your time! - marxine nova

7:29 For me personally, yes. I had a feminine name that could easily be changed to masculine if I took off one letter, but I never wanted it to be that similar. Instead, I took my nickname and removed and added some stuff. It just sounded too close to it and it made me a bit dysphoric with that memory of the name.

I've noticed people saying that someone is transphobic because for example they're a straight guy and wouldn't have s*x with a trans woman It's really weird to me because some people define they're sexuality with being attracted to a gender for their genitalia (not only that but just the point) and some people define their sexuality as just being attracted to a gender in general
@Trees...2 жыл бұрын
At 12:17 It's the same concept. Not alot of people are saying that straight men are transphobic for not sleeping with trans women. It's when you say that she isn't a woman and that's why they wont sleep with her, Hope this helps! :) There is also a video on Noah's channel that is about super straight, which seems to be what your talking about. I recommend checking that out. :)
@coralovesnature2 жыл бұрын
Obviously, people can sleep with or not sleep with whoever they want (with consent of course), but I think the more irritating part is the assumption that a trans person will not have the parts they want to be sleeping with. For example, if someone says they wouldn’t sleep with a trans woman, it’s usually because they’re assuming she will have a d*ck, but that may not be the case at all. One could say instead, that they wouldn’t sleep with someone who has a d*ck. Conversely, if someone says they wouldn’t sleep with a trans woman, even if she has had every possible surgery one can get and is essentially indistinguishable from a cis woman, that’s where it starts to come into the transphobic territory. Because at that point, it doesn’t have anything to do with having different parts, etc., it is solely based on trans status.
