Next time, in the event you guys don't buy into DVC, you may want to atleast rent DVC points. It's pretty easy to get a 1 bedroom and it would have likely saved you quite a bit. Many rental services now offer some kind of insurance too Also, you should consider investing in a travel rewards credit card, that would likely save a ton on those longer flight fares
@emrosey_nielsen2 жыл бұрын
As much as I love watching how y’all vacation, I really think you can have an amazing trip trip to aulani for like 1/4 of the cost if not less. Just on the airfare alone! I’ve gone to Hawaii for like $350 on economy, so for anyone who is scared of the price tag, I would keep that in mind (renting dvc points is also a really affordable option). Anyways, I love how transparent you guys are about it though, and it’s fun to see how much you can actually do on a vacation there.

If you're still thinking about it, the DVC Fan KZbin channel has a lot of good info and discussions. When I did the math, by buying in I could stay in DVC studios for about the same amount as a moderate resort room, and I can book a 1 bedroom for about the price of a normal deluxe hotel room. If you're going to stay in those larger rooms anyway, I think it's worth the upfront deposit.

We bought in DVC coming up on 5 years ago, can't imagine paying for as much as direct would want now. I am confident people who bought five years before we did felt the same way we do now though. We bought in as a way to ensure we took our vacation time as workholics and warm weather escapes from Wyoming. Definitely requires planning especially to take advantage of your home resort. Potentially investigate resale options also. You would not get some of the "perks" of being a "blue card" but the amount you save, a lot of the discounts are the same as annual passes. Bottom line, after 7 trips using our points, we've "paid" for it, I would do it again and if it's the right fit, you'll know in your heart. Also, we could sell our points now and get back as much as we paid up front if we wanted too but I think we'll stick with the 46 more years of vacations just for the cost of dues ;-)

The best thing to do is book with a travel agent who will watch for and apply the offer rates to your booking without you even having to do anything (completely free, same price as booking directly). I hope you tried to modify your first booking to extend it instead of booking a 2nd separate booking. Potentially the offer may have been included for the entire stay then. Please support agents, we are drowning with Covid cancelations.

I would not chose Aulani as a home resort. Chose something you want to visit more frequently as you get to book your home resort father in advance. I would chose a Florida resort especially since they are getting harder to book. As for price, keep in mind annual dues.

I guess have that 11 month window may not really be necessary for them tho as they are locals who stay at the resorts randomly vs other who plan out full Disney trips. They are the people who can rely more on one or two random night stays than the rest of us
@keandric27652 жыл бұрын
And see for me, if I was ever able to buy into DVC I Would choose Aulani. Given how I'm a Southern Californian it's a lot shorter of a flight for me to get there (and cheaper too) and I have an aunt who lives on Maui and I love that island and would love to be able to explore the others so I think I would love to go there more than a lot of the WDW resorts and could use a day every trip to island hop to visit my aunt or explore another island :)

When considering DVC you have to really look into restrictions when you buy, As a member since 1996, it is harder and harder to book even at 11 months out at your home resort, and almost impossible to get other resorts at 7 month booking window. That’s why I ultimately decided not to buy in. I was sooooo tempted. Sat down with the guy and everything, but with my work, I can only plan ahead three months, tops. There’s no way I could plan 11 months out and know that those dates would still be okay when the trip was about to happen. No flexibility is why I decided not too, which is too bad, as I spend a lot of my time doing Disney.
@jennybarker67392 жыл бұрын
@@davidcretella5547 1 bedrooms are the easiest ones to get at 7months....check out the disboards and they show you records of availability at various months. I see someone already commented on getting the blue card when buying Disney, which is the card that gets you into the parties, special events, the lounge at Epcot and cruises. Another option is to buy the minimum points you can directly from Disney, I think its 150 right now. Then purchase another contract resale and you will save ALOT of money.

DVC is the BEST decision we ever made. Member since 2000, I own at Boardwalk and Hilton Head. We have never stayed at Boardwalk. We mostly went to Hilton Head or Vero Beach. In 2017 we finally made it to WDW and unfortunately in 2018 my husband passed unexpectedly. So 2017 was our last vacation with him and we had an amazing time. Without DVC we would not have all the memories we had with him going on vacation together with our kids and my sisters family and my mom (which she passed in 2020) I will forever be grateful that we chose DVC and continue to make new memories with my kids
@karenferraro92122 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend buying several smaller DVC contracts instead of one large contract. Sounds like they whited you a 350 point contract. That would be harder to sell resale in the future. If you buy direct, consider starting with around 100 points (or whatever the minimum is these days).. You can always add more. We started with 100 points at one resort, bought 100 later at another resort, then added on here and there, as we could afford it. Buying smaller points may mean you couldn’t do Aulani every year, but you can save up points or borrow to make it happen periodically until you have a larger number of points. Dip your toes into DVC! It’s likely that, like us, you’ll love it and will keep adding on! Also, direct points are most expensive so most either buy all resale (has restrictions) or buy a minimal direct contract then buy the rest resale (cheaper). Riviera resale has restrictions, so be sure to read about that. We love Aulani and not having a hefty hotel bill made deciding to go an easy decision.

If you take away the cost of the first class tickets which is obviously a personal choice, this vacation still isn’t THAT expensive in comparison to Disney trips if you don’t already live in Florida, I recommend that when people stay in Aulani they travel in groups and go together to split cost! That’s what me and my sisters do when traveling abroad.

If you go to DVC, find the cheapest annual dues (I think Bay Lake Towers) with the most reasonable price (while still having a high exchange value-most Disney World properties are high exchange value, but monorail locations have more value than say Animal Kingdom because of convenience.) Use that to factor in actual "cost." It used to be you could buy "aftermarket" DVC but they have taken some of the perks away with that so may or may not be a good deal.

Hey guys- Thank you for sharing so much about your trip! I’m sure this has been mentioned elsewhere in the comments, but if you’re looking at DVC, it’s worth taking a peek at doing a small contract direct from Disney, and then the remainder of your points from the resale market. Finding the same use year could be a bit tedious if there isn’t immediate availability on the market (if you want the same use year), but I just wanted to share that idea in case it would interest you!

Do the DVC thing! ;-) But jokes aside, I can totally understand that you need a bit of time to think about it as it is indeed a big purchase, but like Tim said, in the long run....I think it will absolutely be worth it! Thank you though for being so open about the costs and everything. Especially for people outside of the US, like me, it's sometimes a bit overwhelming when I look up a price for a trip like that. It was so lovely to see a bit of Hawai'i and travel along with you guys :-) Thank you so so much! OH by the way.... since our April 2020 WDW trip had to be cancelled .... we now instead have booked a Disney Cruise for February 2023 on the Disney Wish!!!! AAAHHHHHH We are SO excited and I really hope this trip won't have to be cancelled, fingers crossed! So I am already looking forward to your next cruise series :-) But like you said: for you as Floridians, that is 'an easy trip' cause you don't have to go far where as we will have to start searching for flights and extra hotel stays the night before and the night after the cruise and all that, so that would be making it extra expensive of course, but I will just be happy if this trip will actually happen! And it's a bit frustrating as there are no flights available for 2023 yet so to me this part of the booking process is always so stressful but worth it ;-)

I appreciate you being upfront about the costs. Hawaii is expensive. We have been four times, and alternated with Florida often due to the cost. We could go to Florida for less than half the cost. However we have loved and appreciated our Hawaiian vacations. Maui is our favourite island. Loved seeing how much fun Jackson had bathing suit swimming. So cute.

You don't need that many DVC points! You can bank and borrow points. We are staying for 8 nights with just 2 years of our points. We bought direct, buy you can also buy resale.
@davidcretella55472 жыл бұрын
There is a restriction on points borrowing right now, only can borrow 50 percent from next year

@@davidcretella5547 yes but you can bank points. We used 2 years of points for our upcoming stay.

I’m really glad you guys are transparent about the prices of things. I remember when Jen and Tim would talk about how expenses these trips would be and how they could never do them. I’m happy you can do them now but I wish you still had the insight to not spend on some of these ridiculous things. At the end of the day you are doing really well and if it makes sense for your finances, enjoy life!

You guys can buy Disney re-sale. So you'd be buying somebody else's initial contract, so you wouldn't have the whole 50 years ahead of you, but you also wouldn't have to pay the whole amount for the initial buy in. You can buy DVC resale through Disney or through a third party. Personally, I love my DVC and it saves us a ton of money because we regularly travel to Disney properties.
@dominiqueglaisyer67332 жыл бұрын
Purchase dvc resale. You will saves tons of money. You get Florida resident discounts so you really do not need to purchase direct unless you want to stay @ Riviera.
@lizcappello96182 жыл бұрын
Great video! Definitely explore resale for DVC. yes you don’t get all the direct sales benefits but the upfront savings is a lot!
@arlenemadden87072 жыл бұрын
So, glad I am a DVC member after hearing the price of the rooms. With DVC a you are using points not paying cash. Unless you are out of points, then you get 20% off the rack rate. That is one reason we joined. I agree with you guys on having the private tours. It’s worth the money to have locals share those island secrets. 😎👍🏻

Everything in the resort grounds are at “resort prices.” Jen you could’ve got that Starbucks pineapple cup for $19.95 at the near by Target in Kapolei 😆. Which is a city right next to the resorts. But that’s alright. At least you guys enjoyed your relaxing trip. And made great memories! 😄 I enjoy all of your videos!

When you get the pictures developed you should put them in a mini photo album and label it Jackson’s First Hawaii Trip by Jackson so you ca always look back on and see his handy work!

DVC is paid for in 5-7 trips. You can buy DVC for OKW or Saratoga and use those points at Aulani.
@mindymonteith94232 жыл бұрын
I would get a small photo album that you can also write in and Title it Jackson's first Aulani trip. Then add a short caption of what he did that day or was excited about that day .
@Lady_Peaches2 жыл бұрын
Definitely consider renting points, Aulani is way cheaper that way. Your room ends up like $400-500 a night rather than the prices you were paying.
