I’ve been gardening for over 25 years and we will never know it all. It’s so refreshing to hear you say we can’t do it all! I stressed myself out trying to keep everything organized, clean and perfect. I’ve learned I would rather be gardening and enjoying myself and will get to the house work when I have time. It was so nice to get to know you! You are such a sweet person and I enjoy your videos 🌸🐝

Things had gotten so out of control that I was staying out of my yard, I just felt so guilty about the mess. In February we found a gardener who will come with a helper to prune and weed for an hour a week. Game changer! As Gerardo cleaned an area I saw opportunity to refresh my 30 year old landscape. When my daughter offered to organize a party for my 70th birthday I went into high gear. I already knew that KZbin is where you go to learn anything so I started subscribing to garden channels. Linda Vater was first but Jim Putnam is my go to for nuts and bolts. The problem was “zone envy”. Then I found you, my 9b buddy! I celebrated my milestone birthday this past weekend in my now beautiful garden with friends and family. Thanks for all your help!

I am a nurse of 30 years. I know how you feel. I had an anxiety attack in Walmart one day after leaving work. I was required to attend work (due to my position) while other nurses had to find other places to work ( like checkpoints in the hospital or covid hotlines). Gardening the other 5 days a week helped me cope.

So after I watched the tour of your new house I had to come back and watch a few of your first videos…gardening is a wonderful therapy, it is a gift from our creator. I love the espaliers, I may try to do it on my garage wall, I’m a long time gardener, but always leaning from others…zone 5. I am anxiously awaiting your new garden….and thrilled you were able to only live in this garden for 3 years and already have a new place to spread your wings.

Is it possible to love someone you have never met? I think so. This was such a delightful video, and thank you for giving us a chance to get to know you a little bit better. Your honesty and openness are a big part of why your subscriber numbers are climbing. I could relate to so much of what you shared about yourself, and I agree that being in a garden, and better yet, working in a garden is the most healing activity there is. As I think back, I have always loved gardening. It really did not become clear to me that gardening was my passion until the day we closed up the home we had rented for 9 years and prepared to move into our own home. I remember glancing back at the garden, and suddenly being aware that I was leaving that space more beautiful than the day we moved in. Everything was in bloom and looked so cheery. It was like a fond farewell. I have just recently retired, and finally have the chance to spend as much time as I wish in the garden, and I love it. I think the world would be a much better place if everyone had the chance to garden. And may I give a shout out and big thank you to all the healthcare workers (many of whom are your viewers) for getting us through what I hope was the worst of this pandemic. You are heroes in my book.

I'm so happy for you to get to spend more time out there now, I hope you enjoy every minute of it!

Our gardening zones are so different (same with Laura from Garden Answer) but I love learning from you both. I am also new to gardening. I started with fruits and veggies four years ago (still my passion) but have gotten into cottage gardening the last three years (and I’m now equally if not more so passionate about it). You’re so right how therapeutic it is and I think everyone should do it. The whole green thumb thing is silly. Anyone can learn with KZbin and be successful if they stick with it. Glad you did! Thanks for all you share! Great to see your husband joining you too. I see your path being like Laura’s.

That was so nice getting to know you better and how your love of gardening began. My husband and I owned a home for 15 years. In 2015 we needed to move so our daughter could go to a better high school. We ran out of time to find something to buy, so we have been renting now for 7 years. We love this neighborhood and this house, so we have stayed much longer than we originally planned. Our other house had a huge backyard, but I was busy then with babies and little kids and wasn’t able to do more than keeping up a tiny garden. In this house I only did container gardens for the first few years because I was expecting to move. I asked the owner if I could put in raised beds and he is fine with anything. Since 2019 I have taken over the yard! We have a huge lawn in the front that I would like to make smaller to use less water, but we haven’t changed that yet. Since we owned for so long, we take great care of the house and yard. We have pulled out several big dead or ugly bushes and replaced with beautiful things. My yard is my happy place so I see it as making it prettier for me and I don’t think about it as someone else’s yard! Thank you for your videos!!

Oh Lorri I love that!! It was life saving for me too. I bought our home in May 2020 and it absolutely helped my mental health. My husband is a resident (family medicine) and we’ve been out through the wringer with Covid so I get it. Especially when everyone was quitting at the height of it. He was pulling soooo many hours and I was basically a single homeschool mom for the last 2 yrs. I commend single moms for all that they do everyday.

Your first Q&A was fabulous. I enjoyed learning more about you. Thanks for sharing your time with us. I totally agree that there aren’t enough hours in the day to be perfect. I asked myself just over 15 years ago Do you want your chid to remember you when you are are gone as my Mom had a perfectly clean house and yard or My Mom loved spending time with me. I chose the second option and I never regret that decision. You can’t do it all. There will always be weeds and messy places in my house but my 15 year old loves to garden with me. That decision took a lot of stress off of me and made me enjoy my garden again. I am glad you found a way to relax and have a better day. Lucky for us it was in your garden and you are willing to share with us. Have a wonderful day.

I worked in nursing for over 20 years and had a back injury in May of 2020 and they had to medically retire me. I was actually thankful as my Dad lived with me and he is immunosuppressed from a heart transplant. Good morning. Loved this video. One thing most people should do if they need to water their lawn is give it a good soak for about 1 to 1.5 hours once to two times a week and that is all it needs. Another thing is to cut your lawn only 1/3 of the top of the blades of grass and nothing shorter. If you go shorter you mays a well say you just killed your grass. Just my opinion. Have a great day.

This is my second comment but I forgot to mention how I’m dealing with the drought. Zone 9b Fresno. I keep a container under each faucet with a pitcher nearby to collect water & also a bucket in the shower. I use chemical free (Norwex) products so if a little gets in the water I do not worry. I’ve been watering my outside pots with no problem with this collected water. I wanted to do my part even though my husband says it’s only a drop in the bucket….. California Native Plant Society has a discussion on KZbin ‘Gardening in a Drought’ that has excellent info.

Great Q & A. Just spent time with scheduling water soluble irrigation, bug spraying my supertunias that have a thrip infestation & mealy bugs.Had a horrible infestation last year so trying to keep that under control. Also had budworms on my begonias.(sprayed B.T. & cleared up within a few days). I too started a “flower garden” in 2020! Opened an account with Proven Winners at that time & I have nearly every variety! So I’m hooked! Although, ornamental shrubs, bonsai, & sculptured olives trees have been my passion & been trimming for 30 years now. Coincidentally just planted a bougainvillea & it’s going through some shock ..losing blooms & dropping petals. It’s the third one that’s done that & they have eventually survived & thrived…so just giving it sometimes to recuperate. Keep up the good work & inspiration. Greetings from sunny Central California👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍😎.

Hi, just have found your channel which is really interesting, well done! I actually live in Italy in zone 9a/9b (recently we have much less frosty nights here), but I know that also in zones 10 and even 11 here people plants mop-head hydrangeas without problems IF they stay in total shade. Only sun of early morning or late afternoon is accepted by the plants. I have a huge mop-head hydrangea in a large pot under the stairs and it feels amazing. And yes, it needs a lot of watering.

You have come a long way from house plants to outside gardening. Gardening for me was a life saver during 2020, it help keep me sane and my marriage intact. Cardboard is your friend, not landscape fabric. The cardboard keeps the weeds out and it is environmental friendly as it breaks down and feeds the soil. If you do have a weed peak through you just push the mulch back and add a layer of cardboard. Eventually the weeds stop as they cannot get light. Plus a thick layer of mulch on top really makes the difference.
