I think those people who have criticized Dan at all have absolutely no idea how lucky and well looked after Max is. I have seen some animals including birds that have been kept in appalling conditions and had to rehabilitate them and sometimes support them just to stay alive. The vet that I used similarly has seen some terrible examples of people who are not only uneducated towards the animals they have in their care, but also cruel and neglectful. Not only does Dan show Max unconditional love and respect, his care and attention to the welfare of Max is admirable. How many of you sitting at home devote as much time and attention to your pet as Dan does to Max? Exotic birds are not only a full time commitment but a lifelong one too. You need an amazing amount of patience and love to see a bird as happy as Max is. Thank you Dan for not only caring and loving Max as much as you do, but sharing your knowledge and experience with all of us on a daily basis.

Dusty has such a sweet personality! He cracked me up fixing his ears to perfection. Was so darling! My rescued kitties aren't as antimated but my older kitty about 7 or 8 years has recently become very mouthy and talkative. While my female, 3-4 yrs old is very playful and into every snoopy and curious. Not as cuddly as the male cat. However she likes her potty box cleaned 3 or 4 times a day and follows me into the bathroom where she sits and stares at it and meows softly like she is asking me to clean it. Which, as I am owned by them, I do. What would we do without them?

I've watched you guys for about 5yrs or so.(medical recovery) and I've enjoyed the Q&A. But I also know Cockatoo's and large parrots need alot of time and attention. Max is pretty integrated in your life as you've had him a long time. I think it's hard sometimes to find a sitter or carer so you can get time away. With the lock downs, that must have been a challenge if you went there at all. They are great companions but they never grow up. To Dan's credit he''s been very patient with the process of Max. And there's always more to come. I just hope people are doing more research before considering adopting one. So many are in 'special care' homes due to stress and other related issues. It's interesting, fun and with Max and Dan very funny. But behind that is a lot of work!!!! Love you Max and Dan, best health and happiness wishes to you both!!!

Thank you, for answering your subscribers questions aboutMax and Dusty. I for one enjoy seeing Max and his antics, but most important I ‘ve learned from this channel, is a bird is a huge commitment . Here in Florida, a few people buy baby parrots in pet shops, then after the year realize it’s too much and are taken to the parrot rescues.

Speaking from experience, regret, absolutely not, exasperating..... yes at times if you are responsible for 'parroting' a good bird like Max. Beaking the house? Close supervision and many distractions. Danny, you are doing great, so many wooden finishes in your home, great job entertaining Max to keep him from thinking the house 'woodwork' would be fun to beak. Love watching Max, I have a Galah named Lorenzo, birds on video, even the cartoon Rio birds, bring out his territorial predisposition, your early release video times allow me to get a daily glimpse of Max before Lorenzo wakes up. Thank you Danny!

Thanks, Dan, for the Q and A update. Max sure was playing this morning while you did that. He is very cute little wild animal. Dusty story--yes, I have adopted feral cats. It takes awhile before they come inside and the carrier--I got a cat carrier that also opens at the top. It was helpful to get cat in carrier. My ferals have gone to vet. My current feral, turned domestic cat was crazy at vet so he had to have light anesthesia just for an exam there. But after 4 years (count 'em FOUR long years), he now behaves OK at vet and isn't so fearful, so they can usually examine him annually without anesthetic. I do take him there now for his Revolution application once a month. He won't let me put that on him. I had one exception of a feral cat who never would stay inside and she lived outside. I gave her a sheltered bed under tarps and she came most times for two meals a day outside. She was an excellent hunter also. I trapped her to get her spayed and that was the ONLY time she was at vet until the day she died. I estimate she lived 18 years.

I really enjoy the Q and A videos. I love hearing all the little details about Max and Dusty. 🤔 😄 ❤ It's also helpful to hear how much of a lifestyle change and responsibility it is to take on a large bird. Some people think you can just go out and buy one and just have it. But there's SOOOOO many additional things to consider. How much time and attention they require to be happy and healthy. Along with all the little things they can be very sensitive to in their environment. Thank you so much for the video!!!! I can't wait to see the next one! 🤗 💕💕

There is a LOT. I have dogs and cats and chickens, but would not take on a bird as much as I enjoy them. All it takes is overheating a teflon pan, hidden lead in cheap toys from China, etc., to make them very ill or even dead. Dan has done an amazing job and it's wonderful he shares Max with us. Perhaps more wild birds will stay that way and not be caught for the pet trade because more of us prefer to enjoy them this way.

I found this channel called 'Bird Tricks' where I learnt a lot about cockatoos. Ours is 31 years old, we've had him for 26 years and he still bites. Basically, they are unpredictable birds. And they are more mechanically minded rather than language minded in terms of learning.
@jo-annebotha96093 жыл бұрын
@@eireannemerald1382 We saw him sitting forlornly in a cage entirely too small for him with nothing for entertainment and could not forget sbout him. We went back the next day and bought him. He used to have a mate - was part of a bonded pair, but we lost her last year a week before lockdown started here in South Africa. We attempted to train but cockatoos notoriously don't react to treats. We do use (or try to) positive reinforcement.
@thetechgenie73743 жыл бұрын
I has mines for a few years and my male u2 hasn’t really bit me except once when I first rescued him and took him out of cage, since doesn’t bite really if at all. Even other people can handle him as he a very social bird and love attention. My female U2 was different as she use to bite and even once early on sent me to hospital for stitches as she ripped my ear open when a idiot co worker thought it would be funny to scare her while she was on my shoulder, not her fault but idiot co workers fault. She came from someone that was scared of her and as a result they barely let her out of cage except for vet visits and once in a great while. Reason they gave her away as they felt bad about just keeping her in a cage, but said she bite and broke a finger bone once and were scared of her after that and they tried but she was to aggressive towards them. It took me 6 months to train her and get her out of biting but was well worth it. She now goes with me everywhere to stores even and is free flight trained and harness trained her as well. That bird I treat like I would a child and a good friend. Even now I have a friend kid that babysit her once in a while they have a cockatoo of their own already, so they know how to handle her and actually wanted to keep her lol. She a completely different bird and not really aggressive anymore. She only bite not really hard but more of a quick bite when she gets upset but it rare. Yes cockatoo are extremely intelligent and are very temperamental but also what give them their character but not for most people. These birds require you spend ton of time with them and for you to make a lifetime commitment to them. For me personally won’t trade them for anything, as more of a companion, then a pet. Yes they are the most complex bird to take care but people try to train them like other birds and cockatoos actually learn much quicker them most birds I dealt with and worked at sanctuary so dealt with all types of birds and raptors and training my U2’s was different as they will try to outsmart you and way more stubborn at times and will figure out trick you pull very quickly. Most birds take even months ti harness train as you have to let them get use to harness. It took me literally one day with my female U2, that how quick they can learn and adapt. She realized after a couple hours it meant going outside, so she tried to fake bite me and knew I wasn’t falling for it and eventually after two hours let me loop it around her. She now will even lift wing to put it in her quicker so she can go outside with me. Yes she destroyed the first one as she waited till I wasn’t looking and chew it off. She gotten use it and doesn’t anymore. Plus I only put it on her when going to stores as she fly off to get into trouble as she did at a outdoor plant store once and knock over a couple of plants. Otherwise she doesn’t need it as she flight trained and pretty behaved. My male U2 never need a harness as he doesn’t get into trouble in the years I had him and stay on shoulder at store. He is harness trained as well. My male U2 can actually stay out of his cage and not destroy stuff in the house. My female U2 will if you not watching her, especially if she was already after item and you said no, she wait till the time is right and your not looking. Once she had Cooper my male U2 drag out a speaker cable she couldn’t reach as hidden it. He was smaller so he could reach it, so she got him to do it for her.

Learn to target train and body language is key. Don’t be scared and overreact to a bite. They will sense that and use it to their advantage.
