You didn't really get that shadows explanation right. In fact the sun is so far away that basically all your shadows were actually parallel to each other. What makes the shadows APPEAR to go different directions is when the camera is located in the mid position relative to sun and the people. The distance to the sun will be the same relative to how far the sun is. The easy example is if you look at a railroad: rails are parallel to each other, if the camera is to the right both rails appear to go left, if the camera is to left the rails appear to go right, and if the camera stands in the middle, both rails appear to diverge whereas they are in fact parallel.

Hi Mark, I have a few technical camera questions. 1. were only 360 cameras used for the 24 hour sun ? And if so why not a normal 24,32 or 50mm lens connected to a sun tracker. 2. 360 video recordings are calculated together by a software that creates a projection and thus all shadows diverge strongly. When overlaying a perspective grid we can not determine any shadows as correct. Do you have reference shots with a 24, 32 or normal 50 mm lens without distortion ? 3. do you have uncut shots from Glacier Camp to the camera observation point ? 4. are there any zoom shots of the camp with a p900 ? 5. cold and cameras / camera image sensors react sensitively to cold and quickly produce strong image noise. This is not visible in any of the images. Why not ? 6. cold and camera batteries / batteries at minus degrees are very problematic, especially lithium batteries. There are no problems to be seen and nobody talks about it. You would expect constant technical problems with the cameras. Have there been problems? 7. cold and cameras / At minus 11 degrees not one camera was cold insulated. Why not ? It could have been minus 20 degrees. That makes no sense to me. 8. you say Duffy included a self-aligning Starlink antenna. Where is it located? I can't see it anywhere. Is there any footage of it? I would be happy if you could answer these questions. Thanks a lot

I work with medium-large video walls too; LED, LCD, and blended projection, including a couple of smaller radius (2-4m) warped dome projections. You may want to do the cost, heat generation, and power consumption calculations for various radii sizes, say 100, 200, and 500 meters. And the computer requirements and video processing power needed to drive such a beast. Using some cheap outdoor, possibly cold capable (do they even exist?), LED cabinets with a reasonable enough pixel pitch, is still going to produce absolutely unfathomable results. All at a budget of only $100,000 of course. It hurts my brain they could make such claims; are they completely incapable of thinking things through?

gottagowork what would a LED Volume wall set look like filmed from 2 cell phone cameras, a drone camera, laptop camera and a DSLR all pointing at each other and moving at random distances/angles like WheresWally's recent supercut of Will Duffy's drone livestream.....while also being captured from 30 feet away by an Insta360 that ran for 25hrs straight? I'm guessing it you'd be able to see all sorts of telltales that it was screens and not Antarctica.
@gottagowork16 күн бұрын
@@BrianFromFamilyGuy99 I have no clue, as I work mostly with office spaces and command & control room scenarios, not production sets or outdoor. So we use rather small pixel pitches (0.7mm - 1.3mm, sometimes up to 1.5mm). Outdoor IP65 stuff is in the 3mm-10mm range and I certainly would expect moire patterns to show up. Since we're not shooting or any rear VC wouldn't be zooming, we're not concerned with moire. For us, when we do curved display walls, it's mostly color calibration that goes out of whack due to the difference in viewing angle, as well as being problematic to align everything perfectly (sub millimeter tolerances) to avoid black (too far apart, or white lines (too close) to appear. Can see this on large billboards too, but for that content it doesn't matter. Fluctuations in temperatures might exasperate that due to metal mounts expanding and contracting with temperatures down there. In a typical outdoor scenario like a stadium or concert, they use much larger pixel sizes because of the viewing distances, so quality degradation might not matter as much. Especially considering the typical content in those situations. I think the most obvious issue is trying to mimic the sheer intensity of the sun. You just can't get those contrasts in shadows from sun vs sky. Good luck finding a LED capable of doing 100,000-130,000 NITS. Strongest outdoor ones I could find (for billboard use) is like 10,000 with 2,500 being more normal. Stopping down, as well as having to use "fake sunglasses", would show up in raw files EXIF data for the DSLR photos. For the same reason, any trickery they use on set in post (color grading) to fake this contrast, can't be used in a live scenario (wouldn't match the EXIF data from the DSLRs). MGS sphere wouldn't cut it for a 360 display when shot with high resolution DSLRs, it's "only" 16k x 16x resolution on a pixel pitch of 2.5 (which is incredibly good for its purpose, don't get me wrong), but its size is "only" about 50 meters in radius. Nor would the vehicles coming and going match up on a "blended fake" for the different camera positions. While the specs of Stagecraft are impressive af (ref ChatGPT), I can't see it be able to handle live zooming (in production they would use hard cuts), and obviously at 1,500-2,000 NITS per 1080x1080 panel it's not remotely close to producing sun like illumination. Obviously its also far too small, 82 meter circumference wouldn't be anywhere near enough for the live stuff we saw. But again, since I don't work in these kinds of scenarios, I'm not an expert, so maybe better if he answers if he has experience there. I have some knowledge about what we do, for being close to everything all the time, but my job is just the mechanical engineering aspect of it. Or wait for the flerfers to respond, they are apparently experts in everything. 🤣Oh, except in how shadows and perspective work I guess...
