Mattel recently revealed a ton of new action figures for MOTU Origins, Turtles of Grayskull, and Masterverse! But along with the new reveals, fans had some questions and hopes for clarification on some points.
I did my best to gather some of the questions I was seeing the most and that I was also curious about, and I shot them over to the Mattel MOTU team. And Mattel responded!
Here are some answers with some clarifications on the newly revealed Masters of the Universe action figures straight from Mattel!

Uuuggggghhhhh………in order for Mattel to have their products in certain retail chains those retailers will require the company to have products exclusively for them to sell so that the consumer will only have them as an option. My biggest issue is Evil Lyn not having a cape in the Cartoon Collection! Especially since the first time we see her in Filmation, she's holding her cape up! Also, Necro-conda (a newly invented character) can get a cape but Lyn can't? Makes no sense. But thanks Dan for at least asking and Mattel for actually responding. They certainly didn't have to do that!

Agreed, Mattel have been going all out on capes for both Origins and Masterverse but the one figure who needed one, didn’t get it! I think the budget just ran out. It would have been better to delay EL until a later wave. I wonder if She-Ra will get a cape?!

Because most new stuff from the people at Mattel is average at best. The good stuff are the copies/reissues from the 80s toys. Back when people with talent, imagination and heart did the toys. Kudos to the artist, these guys still do a fantastic job with origins.

It’s such a pain in the arsenal to have figures I want but they’re literally exclusive to the US or Walmart stores and you literally have to above and beyond to find them at retail price or having to pay 3x as much because they’re impossible to find.

I do still wonder why it was that the entirety of the rest of the vintage line through Origins, will only be released as Mattel Creations exclusives. My guess is the sales have just been that bad for them over at retail. Just really not a fan of the online exclusivity, or the trickling piece by piece strategy of releasing rest of the line in that fashion. I also guess that’s probably why we didn’t see any new vintage line Origin’s figures in the catolog reveals. Love to hear your guy’s thoughts here on all this.

The accurate colored, caped evil Lyn will probably come out as some variant exclusive that will end up triple priced. Like the first origins he-man with the ugly open mouth head sculpt later re-released with the proper head. Brings me back to the classics line and their backwards articulations and wrong painting. Weird how they touched up the first reveal picture so evil Lyn has her accurate color scheme. They should think more about putting out solid collections instead of working for the scalpers and the custom makers.

They should release the pictures when it’s pre production to get feedback from the coummnity and allow changes to be made . After all we are the final clients and like any proyect it needs approvals and corrections before it’s finished . This will create a strong bond between creator and buyers . This is not hard to do cause the products can be shown early … cheers

My biggest question for Mattel is when are they gonna announce more MEGA stuff? We're SO FAR behind the curve on those characters. The Heroic Warriors and Evil Warriors are fleshed out decently, but one Horde character, one PoP character and ZERO Snake Men is pretty weak. That tiny Eternia set was only good for Attack Trak. There's so much more to do.

Mattel keeps repeating the release is early fall but, BBTS POs state June and July delivery.

Mattel is using retail "season" terms. "Fall" is the merch that goes into the aisle resets at the end of summer that is intended to carry-through the holiday season. In the same way, "spring" is the merch that arrives after the holidays for the January resets. Even with merch being designated "fall" or "spring" it can still arrive early and still be put out for sale if there is no date-lock. A retailer like BBTS that doesn't have a brick-and--mortar presence doesn't have to worry about if the shelves are "set" for new merch and can sell the stuff as it arrives, street dates being the exception.

Mattel doesn’t have control over when Target and Wal-Mart sell exclusives, but Mattel DOES have control over sending exclusives to them in the first place. I just don’t understand why they refuse to listen to the entire toy community. No one wants to buy exclusives this way!

Mattel are basically being offered money by these retailers to make the figures in the first place, they would be foolish to turn them down. It's more MOTU product in stores, and more profit for them, since most of these exclusives are just redecoes of existing figures. We need to be complaining to Target and WalMart, and make them aware they have got to do a better job with their distribution. That side of things isn't Mattel's fault.

As for Evil-Lyn not coming with a key costume item such as her Iconic cloak , it's like Heman coming without his power sword! The Evil-Lyn figure seems like a real missed opportunity and quite a disappointment. Her skin tone is nothing like the cartoon and the lack of a cape is a real problem since she always wore one in the cartoon. Collectors who open their figures will have the option to make or buy a custom cape but MOC collectors will be stuck without a cape for her. This is a real shame and seems like Mattel really dropped the ball on this figure.

Hi Pixel Dan adding to what I said in Patreon I would have liked to see more people from filmation era like Count Marzo, or even from the new Adventures if He man or even 200x like the faceless one that could tie in with Evil Lyn, there were so much characters in filmation to dig through, MOtU classics dealt with lot of them but there are sure lot of them to deal with. And like I mentioned Target and Walmart are a US / North America problem as for worldwide release outside US it’s even more complicated . I have some store here in France like Figure discounts or mania toys that make some of those available but at what price , if some other online stores like entertainment earth or bbts could also provide that that could be a bonus. But seeing how Mattel choose to release his latest release on Mattel creations for us only I can see the choice and the target market they are doing… I hope they won’t regret it.

Dan, if you get the chance, please ask Mattel why their Creations department is allergic to money. When they make new Origins figures, they could take preorders, allow customers to buy as many figures as they want, and for shipping worldwide and charge it however much it would cost. This way they would sell much more figures (which equals more money) than through current stupid 'fastest finger first' limited release website system, which makes many of their fans dissapointed and many resellers happy. Why do they use such horrible system, equally terrible for Mattel financially and for fans?

Of course we have no agency over our own Releases. But look at all these Reveals, Amirite? It's going just as strong as when *Laser Power He-Man & Laser Light Skeletor* were Released in the 80s.". ... It's been fun to have these 5.5s out again, but My Goodness - the rollout has been convoluted. Taking their responses at face value, Mattel is definitely struggling with managing MOTU (again).

im glad i finally got most of these stupid figures on pre order and out of the way. just need the 2 walmarts exclsuives. got vypor overpriced at paulmart, reptilax and con at bbts. now i gotta wait to run through the scalpers at walmart and find grasp and terroar hopefully
