As far as I understand it this stuff doesn't 'kill' ants. They just eat it and take back to the nest and feed it to their queen and it stops her laying eggs - so no new ants are produced and the colony dies out naturally. - very humane and effective way of 'killing' ants.

Yup, that's what I did. Camping out in an RV in south california, ants were fucking everywhere. in the cabinet, in the refrigerator, in the garbage, and some were even getting on the couch! Googled "how to get rid of ants," and found out about the borax and syrup solution. I didn't have syrup with me so I just mixed it with sugar to see if it would work. Literally 3 days later, no living ant to be found. Just make sure when you are mixing to add more sugar than borax. If you don't, they won't go for it.

I noticed carpenter ants kept coming into my room, and I would always kill them one at a time. Suddenly, they stopped coming. Then one day, I was cleaning my room out, and I opened a drawer I don't use and found a spider had made it it's home. There were also loads of dead ants in there. I closed the drawer with respect. TL;DR, OG spiders best way to kill ants.

I remember when I was a kid, I went outside and intentionally stuck a piece of gum I had been chewing onto an ant and left it on the ground. After maybe a minute and a half of the ant squirming in an attempt to get free, another ant showed up, wiggled its antennas and walked around the piece of gum like it was trying to get a better understanding of the situation and then proceeded to pull the ant off the piece of gum. I didn't stick around to see if the ant succeeded but knowing the persistent nature of ants I'd assume he rescued his buddy.

These kind of traps work I can confirm to you. We've had ants in both our previous and current home and poisonous food is the best way to kill them. We didn't use this gel kind, but it's the same thing. It take patience but soon they will feed and kill their entire colony

Mouse traps are pretty effective if you have a good supply and patience. I set up like 28 of them. Once enough of them get on their, the trap goes off catching at least 2 of them. It will take years but hey, alot safer and better then having poisonous food around. I can confirm to you that you forgot about animals and children. And that would stink up the house.

+frauleinmona They might. Cats can't taste sweetness so they shouldn't be attracted to it, but I've had (different) cats that want to drink bleach and eat soap bars. As for toxicity, that depends on the brand of the pesticide, what's in it, and how much was ingested. The manufacturer will always recommend you go to the vet for liability reasons. If you're concerned you should ask your vet which is the safest route to go.

The gel is better because it uses the ants biology and social structure to kill them. Ants have a community stomach that they use to feed members of the hive who werent out foraging. The ants that take the gel take it to the hive and feed not only the workers in the hive but the larvae and the queens. Every time Ive dont this Ive wiped out the entire hive in about 4 days.
