A potential idea would be to use a bit of tech using not only a small camera but also a microphone, attached to a raspberry pi and programmed to only turn on the current when detecting the hornets specifically within range by wing vibration tones and visual recognition programmed into it, set a specific bait trap that only the hornets would be attracted to that honeybees won’t go after (such as protein), and a tiny speaker connected to output a sound that the honeybees ignore but attract the hornets. If set up a meter away from the hive in weatherproof housing and on solar-powered rechargeable batteries, especially if you have multiples of them surrounding the hive, it could work well to lure and kill only the hornets and otherwise inactive when only the honeybees are around and touching it. In fact, the housing for the battery, raspberry pi, bait, speaker, camera, microphone and solar panel can be constructed from similar beehive box wood materials on a much smaller scale with fake entrances to fool even the smarter hornets, if honey is also used in the bait but the fake mini hive housing is sealed enough to prevent honeybees from entering it despite scent holes in the sides.

If you combine the sticky paper with the dragonfly, it can give results (?) The wasps stuck in the paper give alarming hormones that, in combination with the dragonfly, can give signals that the wasps are frightened by! @fishyfishyfishy500akabs82 ай бұрын
@@andanssas paper is actually quite successful if you take one injured hornet and place it on the paper. Honeybees do not want to approach giant hornets since they're afraid fo them and giant hornets come the aid of their own kin when they're hurt or panicking. a) Use essential oils: Hornets dislike the smell of certain essential oils, particularly peppermint, lemongrass, and clove. You can create a repellent spray by mixing several drops of these oils with water and a small amount of dish soap in a spray bottle. Apply this mixture to areas where hornets are frequently seen. b) Plant wasp-repellent plants: Certain plants naturally repel hornets and wasps due to their strong scents. Enamaled wire - wrap the figurine tightly with thin wire and connect it to 2x 9volt batteries in parallel. Its basically a coil, parallel 9 volts will increase the amp potential. Dangle the figurine from a mount with a slow spin motor, like a disco ball motor. When they attack the moving figurine and bite the wire, the enamel will come off and complete a circuit. Their body resistance will increase initial amp potential. Even if they get close they may feel a ground potential charge from the coil/inductor field. Adding a electrlytic capacitor to one end of the coil would boost effectiveness. 1500v potential added to the emf coil field when collapses could provide a significant jolt. The collapsing field would feed the cap and extend the shock charge. It would execute a longer shock, if one of these hindenburges held on longer than your average wolverine.

Given that most insects use scent for communication and sensing their surroundings, it's not surprising the dragonfly was pretty useless. The company selling this thing need to figure out how to make it SMELL like a dragonfly. Of course, if they could do that you wouldn't need the fake dragonfly, just spray the scent around the hive. One thing i dont understand is why beekeepers don't put up mesh fencing a few feet from the hive where the mesh is large enough for bees but too small for the hornets. Seems kinda like a no brainer to me, but whatever🤷

Why don't you surround your hives with screening where the spacing is only big enough for bees to pass through at a distance of about a foot or so from the hive? That way the hornets wouldn't have a chance to get even close to the bees or the hive itself.

If a light shocker is added to the dragonfly that does not kill it, but rather scares the wasps and makes them feel the danger of the dragonfly and that it is a real threat, perhaps they will be afraid to approach the hive, but I do not know if the bees will consider it a threat as well.

Why are you not killing the hornets if they are destroying the honeybee hives? Shouldn't be too hard to locate the nest?
@eldoradoboy4 ай бұрын
those hornets over there are like yellow jackets in the US.. they are everywhere and with rather large colonies.. if you kill one, the pheromone it gives as its dying will draw dozens if not more to the spot where it was killed.. the beekeeper would never be able to kill them all to the point there is no more distress pheramone .. thats why when you watch the videos where they use glue sheets that a hundred hornets end up on the sheet.. it attracts more rather than stops the attack..
