Cut the cord with Antenna Man! This is my review of the Winegard Platinum Series HD7694 Long Range TV Antenna (Outdoor / Attic, 4K Ultra-HD Ready, ATSC 3.0 Ready, High-VHF / UHF) - 45 Mile Range HD Antenna. That's the title from Amazon. Despite the misleading HD, 4K, and ATSC 3.0 marketing on this antenna it looks like a pretty decent model. How well does it perform against smaller antenna models?

@2wheelphoto There are real cell booster and a lot of fakes. Those things you stick on your phone are fake and do nothing. A real cell booster basically has a slightly better antenna but mainly it is designed to be placed somewhere you can get a signal, then it re-trasmits the signal over the local area. It sends everything it receives on its band, even somebody else's cell phone. This is not really a problem, just shows it is just a signal relay. Get one for the band the tower you are trying to use operates on. Cell signals have a lot of frequencies, like 700, 800, 1800, 1900 MHz, etc.
@MrBOB39
@MrBOB39 4 жыл бұрын
@2wheelphoto what do you want to know about them There are different types and pros and cons between the different types.... Sometimes one wilk use a booster alone.. Others a high gain antenna alone.. Others will combine both.. However. Depending on the tower you are trying for ( especially from home not mobile ) One can do quite well on using an offset antenna to give you stronger and better access to mimo cel enhanced sites

Antenna Man - Old enough to be your grandfather, for half of my life I only knew tv reception via antennas. The expression "free tv" used by those that have no idea antenna reception exists kinda makes me chuckle. Since I was probably in my single digits age wise, I played around with antennas and even did a few installations for friends and family. One thing you touched upon briefly in this video is "location" of the antenna. I've taken an antenna and monitored specific tv channels while moving the antenna laterally. Height is important (and even rarely greater height is not necessarily better), but, lateral positioning of an antenna is very important also. In my case, no close obstruction is a determining factor, but instead the physics of rf propagation are the factors governing. One difficult channel for me was on rf 34 from 65 miles away, only by moving laterally by roughly 10 ft enabled reliable reception of that channel. Again, no close obstructions were the cause. This phenomenon can also be heard sometimes on a weak FM station traveling in a car, known as flutter, although I believe FM stations now combat this by polarization techniques. Due to the fact I'm an amateur radio licensee and have numerous ham band yagis, tv antennas and ham wire antennas, I've been dubbed through the years also as "antenna man" - lol. 73 de KQ2N PS - even though I receive roughly 50 OTA tv channels, I find very little of interest on them and subscribe to Fubo for most of my tv watching.

I like how these antenna tests were done in a location that is FAR from ideal and at distances in rural and small town areas that may be 40 to 50 miles away from the towers. It is quite realistic in that regard and good to see how these antennas perform in such an environment and also with hilly, undulating terrain.

...I was about to pull the trigger on an amplifier to use with an RCA ANT751E advertised at 75 miles the is mounted to the ceiling of the garage. I've got 3 broadcast towers within a 35 mile radius and almost equally spaced from each other. I aimed the RCA antenna at the tower carrying CBS and it works perfectly for CBS, however the stations on the other towers have low or non-watchable signals. After this video I purchased the Winegard HD7694P, advertised at 45 miles, and it's a 100% improvement for the other channels. It's also aimed at the same CBS tower. I'm connected through a Firestick and the Firestick Recast box (tuner/dvr). Thanks for your time to publish these how-to videos; we're getting ready to retire and are trying to trim down the budget, and cable TV is super expensive (here).

I have this antenna and it works great here in Houston! We don't have any Lo VHF stations here and I'm about 45 miles from the towers that are located south of Houston. Winegard also sells an optional amplifier that replaces the black plastic coax connector piece that comes with the antenna. However, I wouldn't use this unless you are in a week signal area because it might make the signal worse in a strong signal area.

Tyler, I have a question: I have a Winegard HD7000R antenna mounted in my attic. I live in Richmond, CA and this antenna is pointed toward Sutro tower in San Francisco, 18 miles away, which broadcasts most of our OTA channels. The HD7000R comes with VHF low band extensions, which I have not installed because there are currently no VHF low channels being broadcast from Sutro Tower. However, in May, one of our favorite channels is moving from UHF to VHF low channel 5. By installing the VHF low band extensions, would this degrade the VHF high band reception? Thanks again for the great service you are providing. '73 Bob

I upgraded from an RCA ANT751 to this Winegard and went from 46 channels to 93 channels. The signal strength on the channels I get is very high also. Most channels come in at 100%. I live 25 miles from the transmitters, LOS (flat area). The main obstruction to the signal path for me is simply large trees and some tall buildings. For my situation, this antenna is amazing? YMMV

This Winegard Antenna does a great job picking up hi vhf stations, EXCEPT if you have powerline adapters or a gigabite ethernet internet switch anywhere nearby. In my case, those items emitted so much interference that hi vhf would seldom come in. It's not the fault of the antenna. Once I removed the ethernet switch and replaced the power line adapters (which extended internet from the basement to my upstairs Roku) with inexpensive DirectTV Broadband Ethernet to Coax adapters the interference stopped. The disadvantage of this setup is that you can't use the same coax cable for OTA to the tv, but that isn't much of a problem with the Tablo since it streams live tv through a Roku app. Channel changing, though, takes several seconds through the Roku, which is a little annoying.. A much more expensive (+$100) MOCA coax adapter DOES allow OTA signals to use the same coax so that option could be used to provide both internet to the ROKU and an OTA signal to the TV (through a single coax cable) to allow instant channel changing and an additional tuner for live TV in addition to the 2 or 4 tuners on the Tablo. I may reconnect the ROKU, smart tv and dvd player to my cheap, plastic cased ethernet switch just to see how much it degrades the OTA signal by itself. Possibly a new switch with a metal case and new shielded internet cables could allow me to have everything connected, but for now the ROKU is plugged directly into the DirectTV coax adapter.

Question: I have 1byOne Antenna that I want to mount in my attic. Currently sits in my 1st floor office and I get 20 OTA channels. I want to hook it up to my internal coax wiring network via one of the upstairs bedroom coax (via a T extender) and then again install a T connector for that drop and run the split to my office and connect to Silicon Dust HD Homerun tuner. Can this antenna share the same coax drop as the bedroom. My guess is yes, but not 100% sure. I run MOCA extenders so my guess is this would work ok.

Thank you too for emphasizing that there is no such thing as a "HD" antenna. I cant tell you how often I've told people that as well. If I could ask a question.....Are you aware of any inexpensive RF meters that can be used to hook up to coax to measure signal strength? I'd like to use a meter instead of a actual TV tuner. Would be helpful when helping friends/family.

There are a few cheapo signal meters available but most just use a row of a few LEDs to give a relative signal strength. I haven’t seen one that actually lets you specify a channel or frequency. If all your stations were clustered in the same general area, it might help with a general pointing of your antenna. A proper field strength meter might cost $700-1000. Unfortunately, the majority of the lower end meters are made for cable TV channels and do not have a setup for the OTA channels. After that would be spectrum analyzers but that would mean spending $$$.

The mere thought that anyone would by a t-shirt because they're a huge fan of some guy who reviews TV antennas on the web is just ridiculous....that's why it's a genius idea.

Tyler, do you use either the "liquid tape" or the rubbery coax tape on any of your installations? I only wish that Channel Master still made good FM antennas!

@@diycarhome9151 I'm mostly interested in the lower end of the FM band where college stations and community radio play a better variety of music. Also, the bit rates of some of the online stations leave something to be desired. Also, I like to DX distant stations.

As much as the content on FM has become trash there are still some good ones out there. I use compression fittings and silicone with my cables. I heard liquid tape is good and will look into it.

morrisonAV The old Chanel Master, of North Carolina made a great FM long distance antenna called the Probe 9. I bought 2 new ones in 1999. Still in boxes. Could be reproduced. But with Internet, music on demand FM is practically old and outdated. I know before the internet I was into dxing tv stations and dxing FM stations. I used a thirty foot Delhi GN tower, channel Master rotor, Lindsay VHF Antenna and preamp. From my house in Brantford, Ontario could get some Cleveland, Ohio FM Stations 150 miles to the south west. Got a few Erie, PA. FM stations to the south. But back then all we really had was VHF, UHF and FM. There are still some great FM stations out there. When I'm down in Windsor, Ontario I try to listen to Detroit, Michigan station WOMC 104.3 FM a great station I never get bored with.

Tyler, I believe that we have a similar antenna installed to this by RCA with an amplifier. Would we be better off going with a Chanel master cm 3020 or rca ant 3036e ? Or is the improvement not worth the money? Thanks!

It depends on the frequencies in your area. If you have weak VHF stations then it might be worth upgrading. If you'd like me to take a look consider a custom antenna recommendation at the link below: antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html

Is it possible to install my antennas in the attic? I had great results with this at my last house, but I moved about 10 miles further away from the towers. I am about 66 miles from the towers providing the UHF and VHF signals. I have watch a handful of your videos and haven't found an antenna you gave a good review on that is a combo UHF and VHF antenna. Do they exist?

I use an old analog TV antenna and get very good reception. I have an V shaped truckers TV antenna that they mount on their mirror. I have it mounted next to an aluminum awning that acts as a ground plane. I works good also.

Labeling antennas as HD, Analog, V shaped, Digital, 4k, Color, or anything else is a marketing ploy. It means nothing. An antenna is an antenna, as long as it's built to receive a specific frequency your trying to receive. Range also means nothing and often size means nothing, though generally the more elements it has, the better it might work. Note I said "might." Your old antenna, if it's in good shape, is probably doing as good if not better than some of these new antennas. For antenna's new does not mean "improved." Whether an antenna is good or bad depends on the frequencies it's designed to receive and signal gain. Most reputable antenna manufacturers provide this information on their websites so you can do a direct comparison.

Hi Tyler . I have a question about the Quality of a TV tuner. I didn’t know that you could get better or lower in tuners that could pick up more or less stations until I seen your video on it. Which was very informative. I purchased the HauppaugeComputer WinTV-dualHD AND You can record two things at once or record one and watch another. And it’s for use with my Nvidia shield. Now is the tuner they use good quality or is it junk.

@@richardvacanti9103 Hauppauge tends to produce the best stuff. And they seem the best for compatibility. I would wait until someone comes out with a 3.0 model before upgrading. They should start showing up in the next few years.

I have something weird going on at my home, which is in a rural area near Greensboro, NC. I am using the GE yagi and getting reception that I would consider too good for the antenna. I have it mounted roughly 20 feet in the air outdoors, and the total length of cable from the antenna to tv is about 90 ft (no amp), and I am picking up 15.1 WBRA-TV which is based out of Roanoke, VA on low VHF 3 which is 75 miles from me and its not even pointed in that direction. I'm also picking up pretty much every channel that is considered poor at my location, with the exception of a few. I had previously used the compact RCA, and it did not hold a candle to this GE. I don't know what kind of magic they use under the plastic cover, but it works really well. Some channels have pixelation during certain periods of the day. I'm considering upgrading to the bigger Winegard, but I don't know at this point.

new subscriber here. Love your videos. Got a question: My antenna channels in Philly (3, 6 and 10 and Fox) now have the word "new" in a red box in the upper left corner of the channel icon. Do you know what this means? I've been watching these channels for a year and have never seen this before. Wish I could attach a photo.
