This is so true. My anterior pelvic tilt started really giving me problems when I decided I wanted to walk 15k steps a day for weight loss. In about a week my knees were in so much pain I was afraid of losing the ability to walk altogether. Then I tried to just rotate my hip inward and really focus on using my glutes, it’s super difficult but it was such a relief for my knees and in time (will be quite a while) your spine will slowly fix itself and you will be able to walk right subconsciously.

Being mindful of this and SQUEEZING my glutes is what takes away any back pain during long walks. ❤

Posterior tilt (bum/hips out , behind) Anterior tilt (bum/hips forward), both extremes can cause pain issues in lower back area, a neutral position is best, but daily life and poor posture can make achieving this difficult…try and remember to be posture aware day to day.

Struggle with this during barbell squats. So afraid to round my back, but over arching the other way like this ive heard is even more dangerous for the spine during a lift. Its all about a solid straight stacked torso while squatting . Gotta keep practicing this, great advice here

Many indigenous tribes naturally find a J shaped spine with lots of glute engagement in their movement. They report almost no back pain. However, they also have very strong cores
@TomMorrison8 ай бұрын
Depends what people do really, if you’re fairly active and don’t load bilateral movements heavy then you can be fine with major postural deviations

Is anterior pelvic tilt always bad? I've heard many physios that it's not necessarily a problem
@TomMorrison Жыл бұрын
It’s not, and could just be your natural curve, strength, balance and overall flexibility and stability is more important to focus on rather than assigning all your issues to one thing like a tilt or one muscle 😄

that's normal when you posteriorly rotate :) ideally you want somewhere inbetween, a "neutral" spine for everyday moving!

For a proper deadlift, you need to have some anterior pelvic tilt
@TomMorrison Жыл бұрын
Neutral position really so supporting your natural lumbar curve, would need to be careful with the cue to APT incase someone mistakes it for just tightening the low back instead of bracing properly, then when they finish they’ll actually be overextended, can get away with it for a long time before it starts causing issues too
@RumbleMeat Жыл бұрын
@@TomMorrison I'm not recommending people do deadlifts improperly, but they should do them correctly with APT engaged

I really want to say that i no longer believe this is true, some of the most athletic people on earth present with more of an anterior tilt when they move, also most indigenous tribes present with more of a tilt, the issue with this video is you are also flaring your ribs and a hip tilt and a rib flare do not actually need to present simultaneously.
@TomMorrison3 ай бұрын
Yes it’s very rarely the cause of pain or issues that people think it is, it’s still important to be able to express full range at the front of the hips when you move tho
