To be fair, for all the beginners out there theres still a lot you can do and make with a simple chisel instead of a table saw. Maybe not the biscuits slots for the miter joints but any good old lap joint a chisel and some patience will do the trick.

A miter joint is actually much stronger than this. Just KZbin search strongest wood joints, and you'll find out, so this joint is actually inferior.
