One way to avoid these storms is don't cruise during the spring and fall months and remember that if you cruise in the southern hemisphere the spring and fall months are opposite.

Amazing for about 6 hours The Captain was able to hold the ships postion headed into the winds.With GPS locking the ship and the Captain holding the ships wheel. He kept the Azapods full throttle. He burnt out a Azapod. Without those Azapods and a GREAT Captain Athem could turned out a lot worse. The ships was built to withstand this kind of weather.

When I was in Anthem some people were freaking out over the tiniest waves they were nothing to me since I've been in boats all my life but jeez some people shouldn't be allowed to go on cruises. Btw Anthem is one of the best in Royal Caribbean's fleet :)

This ship is a floating hotel, and certainly not appropriate for such weather conditions.In such weather, you want to be on an ocean liner, which is designed to withstand such conditions. Unfortunately, there is only one such ship, Cunard's Queen Mary 2. Why do companies like RC put their passengers and ships at risk, when the weather forecasts show the danger involved.

Some people just shouldn't go on ships cause there's nothing they can do about rough sea's even with the most advanced stabilizers.

I worked on a ship and it is no magic the See is still in controll whenever you are on a ship you are at her mercy be prepared she. Is a fierce lady but beautiful ,that's my opinion herb

The two initial sequences were odd because there was no obvious turbulence happening, that shows to a viewer of this video. People are walking around, then going down stairs slowly. And that's all. Not till the closet door is swinging, and the curtains moving, do you get a sense of what's going on.

That is true, the storm came in very slowly and took everyone by surprise. Really didn't notice anything until weights began to fall of their racks and you felt drunk walking through the halls of the ship lol

I've crossed the Atlantic many times in my life aboard quite a few liners (QM2, QE2, France, United States, Queen Mary etc). I've seen some very rough seas. Do the newer "cruise" ships handle the rough seas better/worse, or just different than the classic liners?

I don't know how the classic liners work or really anything about the newer ones either, but I do know theres alot of technology and engineering in the ships that can hold 4-5K passengers.

0:31 = Drama Queen. Try this on a 200 foot, 100 passenger vessel in the southern Indian Ocean en routh to Antarctica, then you'll see what real terror is like. I did and I saw 70 year olds hold it together, better than these pansies, for nearly a week in MUCH worse conditions than this ship encountered. (Honorable mention to the dude at 1:16 hanging on to his beer while helping others).

No, the conditions were not expected and we even had a 93 year old on board. I would say it's tougher on older people and, even though we had some nervous people, I never saw anyone crying. We even hit 43 degrees at one point...THAT was hairy for sure. Walking on the walls was common for those that could handle it. I stand by my comment that the chick on the cruise ship was a drama queen.

Shipping time is money. Crossed the Atlantic four times took aprox two weeks each way never saw a clear day on all the trips. till we got close to east coast, same for the English Channel heading for Holland. My ship did aprox 20 knots, when rough weather hit it was reduced to aprox 8 so we wouldn't break the ships back. just enough speed to keep our heading. And they put more water in the Ballast to reduce swaying.

There was a lot of cosmetic damage to the outside of the ship. Broken glass, furniture and ceiling damage. On deck 5 a lot of water made it into the ship and they were spending the next day drying the carpets. From the ship tipping back and fourth, drawers slid out of the bureaus and broke. In the gym, weights were sliding off racks and trash cans were falling over. It was quite the experience to say the least.

All those people are lucky to be alive. To make a comparison, the 790-foot "El Faro" cargo ship didn't fare as well this past October in the same region of the Atlantic Ocean in hurricane-force winds and gigantic seas. The "El Faro" lost engine power, capsized and went to the bottom. There were no survivors. If this cruise ship had lost engine power in that storm while attempting to turn into the wind and seas and maintain their heading in order to ride out the storm, I shudder to think what would have happened to the approximately 6,000 men, women and children on board.....

This captain made an announcement that they would ' HAUL ASS' to beat the storm but they sailed right into it. Greed before safety is why the titanic is at the bottom of the ocean and as this ship listed 40 degrees this could have been a catastrophic event. New rules / laws must be made for passenger safety
