Anthony Bourdain is living the college student's dream, traveling the world eating amazing foods, but recently he has discovered the magic of the Waffle House.

It's hilarious because, as a southerner, the Waffle House is something we discover as teenagers when we first get our drivers licenses and break curfew. To hear an adult non-southerner suddenly discover and experience the Waffle House is like watching an adult go through puberty. It's fantastic and hilarious.

I absolutely love this comment. I grew up in north Georgia, eating at Waffle House every Sunday after church (and eating there drunk and stoned as a teenager). I then moved to Texas for a while, only for my town to get a Waffle House. Watching the Texans go crazy for all star meals and pecan waffles was hilarious.

I went out on a bender with my friends when I turned 21, and where did I end up waking up? A Waffle House parking lot. No matter how drunk you are, you find your way to a Wa House.

I just moved to Huntsville Alabama from Seattle and going from 5 Star dining to the Waffle House was so damn refreshing, I fucking love the south dispel the rumors the people are great and vary in political leanings just like anywhere, on the lake yesterday I saw a guy screaming “Biden 2020 he won!” At a boat with trump flags which led to a drive by argument of some proportion.

Discover it as teenager. Man my first solid food was probably a waffle from Waffle House.

😭literally me. I had it after prom last year and it was so good. Been there once a month after.

I really don't think Bourdain was a food snob. He wanted simple food prepared well and respectfully. RIP Tony😢.
@ryanshannon77033 жыл бұрын
He expressed this exactly when he was in Argentina (or Chile) in one of his No Reservations episodes. He was at a vaquerro ranch and they had actual country cooking on the range and this is basically what he said. If food is that good, I don't need a tower construction with a Dali painting of sauces on my plate.
@niciindeli3312 жыл бұрын
I got one of his cook books and it's all about creating comfort foods that remind him of good times. All his little excerpts are him gushing about what the food reminds him of. It's beautiful

I never thought of the menu being all pictures, but he is absolutely right. I hope Anthony is enjoying the best meal that he ever had wherever he landed. RIP Anthony.

He is too humble to talk about the greatness that make his show become so successful. But If you read his books you will know why. He applied a lot of his writing skills to the show's narration. The show is not only about food, literature and history are also big parts of the show which make it stands out more than other ones.
@PerthTowne6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's much more than a show about food. Food is his way in, but it's about different culture, history, politics. Great show. I'll miss him and his rambles around the world. The shows are on Netflix though, so I've been watching some of the older episodes.

Never forget that the week of his suicide an Italian tabloid showed Asia Argento cheating on Anthony, even though he was her biggest defender. She was later MeToo'd herself. Anthony knew how to deal with depression ("there’s a guy inside me who wants to lay in bed, smoke weed all day, and watch cartoons and old movies. My whole life is a series of stratagems to avoid, and outwit, that guy") but not with an abusive woman.

Brett N I went through a period of being so depressed in 2007-2008 that waking up to work was suffering. The vast expanse of nothingness seemed better than living to me at that time. Or if you're religious, I honestly don't think that suicide is the one unforgivable sin over something like raping a child and murdering them.

Foreseen G. It's true of successful men. Guys like that get sexier as they get older. My husband is in better shape now than when I met him, and while his hair is thinner I'm hotter for him now than I was on our honeymoon. Every year he gets more successful and more himself. Meanwhile I'm aging like a president. Doesn't matter how hot I am ”for my age”, he keeps looking better every year. I miss being the hot one.

If I could describe Bourdain's voice in metaphors it's like cigarettes after a long night in the kitchen, medium rare steak that's been washed down with some expensive red wine, an exquisite appreciation for culture and customs, an adoration for travel, an authoritarian spokes person for travel and food. He just sounds totally chilled out, in control and cool

He talked about naps and chicken soup and orange juice. I can only guess he wanted to do something cool that his daughter might enjoy. Dr Tony. Just a guy checkin out the waffle house. He was never ever a food snob! He knew ingredients and how to put them together but I think more than that he was travelling to learn about people through their food.
