I left Brisbane pretty angry at a certain actor's behavior, and I couldn't let it go. I need to shame him for what he said. It was tone-deaf at best and arrogant at worst.

Daniels was at a convention I was attending around 6 months before Revenge of the Sith was released and tried to make it about him as much as possible claiming "it's the last chance fans will get to see the real C3P0" He had the biggest booth and everything and it definitely seemed like no one cared that much. Complete opposite end of things David Prowse was there and I realised a little late and got to his booth as him and his assistant were packing down and getting ready to leave. His assistant said sorry and asked me to move on, Prowse then cut him off and waved me forward as I mentioned I was a huge Vader fan. I then got about 10 minutes with him asking him every nerdy question I could. I'll always remember him as one of the nicest people I've met. He didn't even charge me to autograph the comic book I had...the man's a legend

@@TokiWardguitar I never met Daniels, but my parents tell me when I was barely in toddler stage I went with my dad to a convention to get Kenny Baker’s autograph in a Phantom menace Artoo figure. He was done for the day, comprehensibly tired and leaving really, but he seemed to have gifted us a couple of minutes to sign the toy’s package for me. Although I don’t remember, my dad still has that figure sealed and kept me from opening it then so that he could show it to me as an adult & could appreciate it.

I had the life time privilege to meet the immortal Stan Lee at Sydney Supanova. Despite his advanced age, he took the time to personally greet and welcome every one of us that got a photo with him. He was warm and caring and funny all the way through. I will never forget hearing that craggy voice wishing me "May The Force be with you, True Believer" as I was shown out of the booth. But that's not the least of it. There were so many people there on that first day who got photos and signatures from him that they straight up ran out time to get through all the signatures. He however insisted on staying back longer than what he was booked for to get through as many people who were willing to stay and offered full refunds to those who couldn't. That tired old man powered through it all. He was there for almost an hour and a half longer. I was near the back of the line and watched as he was clearly wearing out but refused to stop. I wasn't even getting anything from his legacy signed, I got my photo and custom lightsaber signed, but he did it all regardless. Now, we know there was something tantamount to elder abuse going on in the last years before his tragic passing but I cannot for a second believe what I saw was any less than his own pure love and dedication to his craft and above all, to his fans. And none of us, NONE OF US, would have held it against him if he had to pack it in. I will never forget those memories, I doubt any of us who were there and at every other convention like it ever will. He was a hero and makes cunts like Anthony Daniels nothing less than a blight upon the fandoms.

I was able to meet Sir Patrick Stewart and he was gracious and a genuinely warm human being who appreciates the fans. A guy was there with a large-scale model of the original enterprise and around the saucer section all the captains had signed it. He handed it to Stewart’s assistant to get it signed and Stewart replied with a joking tone, “that’s not MY ship”. It was a fun moment. When it was my turn I told him how much I loved his portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge in a Christmas Carol. He seemed to appreciate the love for his non-Trek work as well.

I’m personally not a fan of that phrase just because I feel it puts public icons on unfair pedestals. My take with this is if you want to meet someone you admire if you have that opportunity, go for it. Just keep your expectations at a minimum because you never know how your experience can go. I find it also helps to follow them on social media beforehand so you can get a (potential) idea of what they’re really like as people. In the case of Daniels, he’s a case unfortunately you’re very likely going to have a bad time meeting him. But….. in the end, you find out the kind of person he’s like, and that’s that.

I met Anthony Daniels once. It was at a strange exhibition in London called “The Power Of Myth” promoting “The Phantom Menace” there were props there including Anakins full size pod racer. Anyway, in amongst the crowds I spotted Mr Daniels. NO ONE had any idea who he was. He was walking around the exhibition and not a single person clocked who he was. I went to get a drink at the little cafe area and he was sat there chatting to some lady and her young daughter. I’m not making this up..when Mr Daniels realised they didn’t know who he was he did the voice. And they shook their heads and said “sorry”. He shuffled off. I went after him. This was my chance to get an autograph. All I had on me was my entrance ticket. I shouted “Mr Daniels!” he turned and smiled, presumably glad of some recognition. I asked for an autograph, Holding my ticket and pen out. His response “Sorry. I don’t sign scraps of paper” ....I just stared at him. Shell shocked I’d been turned down by C3PO. What did I do? I tersely (and loudly) responded “HOW ABOUT A PHOTO THEN?” He jumped and said “of course, where shall we stand?” I haven’t been able to look at that photo since it was developed 25 years ago. *Never meet your heroes* .

Anthony Daniels has clearly failed the assignment. Isn't the point of actors attending conventions to meet up with their fans, answer questions about their careers, and have a good time? I wouldn't know, it's been a while.. Anyways, by the sounds of it, he's another actor who thinks too highly of himself, and got drunk off of his own success. He should know at the end of the day that people didn't watch Star Wars for Anthony Daniels (and his inflated ego), but for the character he was paid to portray. A question about Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings? Were he a more reasonable man, and cared about his fans, he would answer such questions, rather than dismiss them.

I recently met Timothy Zahn, a man whose work helped inspire me to be a writer (my 4th book will be out once the fantastic team at Soundbooth Theater records it in the coming months). Timothy was a joy to talk to: the man is grounded, polite, intelligent and clearly appreciates the chance to be with his fans. He does conventions all over and I highly recommend taking time to see him and grab an autographed copy of one of his books (Heir to the Empire’s 25th Anniversary sits proudly on my shelf front and center). Makes me realize how lucky I was to meet David Prowse, and Jeremy Bulloch. Met them at a little comic shop, separate events, in 1996. Each of those men couldn't have been kinder. Jeremy must have talked to my friends and I for 15 minutes. He even starting asking us questions. Explained his dual role in ESB (this was before the internet was what it is, and this wasn't something everyone knew) and how that all came about. There weren't many people there, the only way you could know about it was an add in the paper. Prowse, I got to meet again in 2007. He was more reserved than the first time, but still a class act. I'd go back to being a Star Wars fan in those days in a heartbeat. Younger people unfortunately can't know what it used to mean. It was truly magical.

I've recently had a Star Wars Documentary extravaganza (1-6) and Daniels came off as very likeable and approachable. I'd want to meet him based on his interviews alone, but I keep having to remind myself, actors act for a reason. They're narcissists, they put on a show for attention and nothing else. They're the 'look at me' generation before the 'look at me' generation. I know it's not all actors. Some are probably amazing people. But I am deeply disappointed with who most of them turn out to be. You have my respect for at least attempting to talk with Asshole Daniels about something that interested you, I'm too darn shy to try anything like that, and maybe for the better. I think it helps that 3PO is sort of a pathetic character in Star Wars, so it doesn't take too much suspension of disbelief when watching SW, knowing who the man is. But that's just me. Thanks for sharing this story man, based on your content I know you have a much stronger moral compass than most people anyway.

If it means anything I met Anthony Daniels about two years ago, got his autograph for £80 and he took some time out to have a conversation with us for a couple of minutes. We talked about filming in Tunisia, the lady who sculpted 3PO's mask, and also he asked us about our jobs and seemed genuinely interested. Probably the best experience I've had meeting an actor at a convention.

I used to think too that Mark Hamill was a good guy, until recent events turned him into an opportunist and hypocrite who cares for noone and even if he does he will do it for his own gain. I still think he will return as Joker when he feels like it and probably cash in big time on his name alone and make it some big event about Kevin Conroy while spitting on his legacy. As for Mr Daniels, if working with Disney makes you feel like everywhere you go is an echo chamber then screw him and screw Disney for ruining the lives of people who maybe at one point in their carriers where normal human beings and not self absorbed crybabies who can think of only one thing and not many.

We had Anthony and Adam Savage here for a few conventions here over the last month and I can say with all conviction....Adam was by far THE most popular of the two! He was kind, geeky, down to earth and had time for absolutely everyone and showed genuine interest in every costume and prop he was shown, signing everything in sight and posing for a huge amount of photos. Not only that he spent a lot of time walking among the crowds saying hello to loads of people instead of being sat in a booth....know how much he charged people......Zero. What a legend and theres already requests for him to come back again! Daniels never got mentioned by any of my cosplay mates and I know a lot and he sure as hell was never seen on the floor. I met Dave Prowse a long time ago, genuinely nice guy who chatted with me, signed my tie fighter model and posed for a photo......for nothing. I paid 180 bucks to meet William Shatner briefly, worth every cent for the few minutes to chat with him and for the amazing photo of us together. Sorry you had this experience with Daniels, theres a lot of stars I wouldnt waste my time on, others are genuinely nice, theres plenty more to meet mate!

As others have stated in the past, and most likely here in your comments too, Anthony Daniels was notoriously unpleasant, bordering on abusive to his co-star Kenny Baker. Kenny himself came out once during an interview and said he (Daniels) "Doesn't do well with others" would never socialize with his fellow cast members. According to the makeup department too, he was also a bit of a diva, refusing to be fully-suited up in the 3PO costume until "the dwarf" was inside the R2 robot. I've heard very few anecdotal arguments of Daniels being nice when a camera is rolling, but plenty of examples of him being thoroughly-unpleasant when not.

He was lovely to my fan group, but we were Star Wars fans. I don't fault him for not doing extra beyond the autograph. The more popular actors get absolutely mobbed at conventions. If he says yes to one person, everyone in line can start asking for extras. I wanted to leave a gift for Warwick Davis (couldn't afford the line, so just wanted to leave it with the attendant), and his manager said no. Yes, that was disappointing, but if 20 people leave gifts that's a whole extra suitcase or two to transport them anywhere (over seas in this case if he wanted to take them home)... and that's assuming all the gifts are appropriate. If an actor is big enough that they can charge hundreds of dollars for an autograph, they've generally dealt with a lot of insanity from fans. If they're big enough to have a manager and staff in tow, they're having to cover the cost for the time of people besides themselves. The lesser known creatives generally do have far more time to just talk and hang out. I'd agree it's a bit rude to cut off your question. Depends a bit on the nature of the panel. If it's very specifically about his role as C-3PO, that may be why he wanted to keep things on track. I promise you almost no one from the audience is going to remember you as "that guy from the panel" or wouldn't have if you didn't storm out in a huff. I've described him as a "humming bird of crack". He's very high energy and his attentions shifts quickly... bit like my nephew who is also bipolar. I'm not saying he was right to cut you off. But these people are human and no you shouldn't put them on a pedestal. The actor is not the character. It is nice when someone goes above and beyond to be nice fans, but it becomes a job. Most people at the convention are there for the whole experience, connecting with other fans, seeing multiple celebrities and creatives. If one bad moment ruins the whole experience for you, I'd adjust your expectations a bit. You clearly had fun meeting Matt Doran, so talk up the lesser knowns who did give you their time and could actually benefit from some positive word of mouth.

C3PO is the one character no one so far has been able to do the voice right for. I assume Hollywood people are a-holes until proven otherwise. Like Keanu Reeves and Paul Walker seem/seemed to be very down to earth and humble guys. I heard a story about Paul allegedly paying for a couple’s engagement ring after overhearing the guy couldn’t afford it. And Keanu is a national treasure. Possibly some kind of immortal that’s been around for centuries but a treasure nonetheless. Maybe don’t be as cynical as me. No one’s perfect, don’t expect your heroes/idols to be. But there’s a difference between being flawed and being a straight up jerk. Anthony Daniels clearly doesn’t realize he can be replaced with CGI and another voice actor. I love the character, not necessarily the guy playing him. And when you’re a robot, you’re not as special as the actors whose faces we can see. The exception being Vader in this case.

I had similar experience with Daniels when he attended the Prague Comic Con. During his Q&A all he did was run around, promote his book and insult fans when they asked him his question (Unless it was ultra-C-3PO-centric). Most people there however had fun and took it well, since they were under the impression that he was doing a bit, and that his behaviour was self-aware. I who knew about his personality from before, knew better. I did get a photo with him, for my own collection, rather than any admiration of him. And it was really unpleasant. Not for me though, I lucked out. The people before me in the booth were a pair of cosplayers, whose accesories made it hard for them to get into the cookie-cutter position he wanted, where he and the quests held together a C-3PO statue. He was extremely rude with them, calling their home-meade weapon replicas and stuff 'trash' and he very bluntly questioned their intelligence. By the time they left they were visibly upset. However since I got to see what he wanted, I got into the correct position right away, before he could even start explaining, which visibly suprised him, and I earned a "Thank you! Finally a clever person..." from him in a most patronising and condescending manner. But it was clear that he was indeed thankful, since he had to spend a few less seconds with another moronic fan.

He could have been cut out of Star Wars entirely and the ONLY thing that would change would be how Luke, Han, Leia and R2 negotiated with the Ewoks. R2-D2 on the other hand was vital to all 6 movies. Chronologically, it would have ended when Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Padme were trying to escape the Naboo blockade in TPM if R2 hadn't saved their asses. And ANH would have never even reached Tatooine because Vader would have gotten the plans as soon as he captured Leia if R2 wasn't there.

Once we learn the Diddy and Epstein lists, and learn more of what these actors have been doing in secret, we won’t be looking up to them anymore!

If he was a nice person, he wouldve politely said "thank you for your question, but i can only answer star wars related questions for this convention" then asked if u had any star wars questions for him. Or he could've just answered ur question. Like, it wouldn't hv been the end of the world if he took a few seconds to answer the question.

Some celebrities deserve their fame, but the egotists like Anthony Daniels don't. His career wouldn't exist if not for his fans. The least he could do is pull his head out of his own ass and be kind to them.

I was gonna have a chance to meet Daniels in Salt Lake City for FanX, but i ended up not going. Either way i wasn't gonna try to meet him, as it was too expensive for someone who i didn't really want to meet anyway. Glad i used my money for something else. Bro's ego is crazy, given how C-3po was basically just a recurring peripheral character, i didn't even really like him or think he was funny. Not to mention Star wars is basically dead anyway, thanks to disney. Anthony, you're not special, You're the least important "Main" character of the series, and no one cares anymore. Grow up.

I don't get Daniels at all. As for Hamill... He went too far into the woke mist as some are saying now. Before the 2020's, he seemed to be really cool. Then he just kept going on and on about, what really is, cultist lunacy. It's a shame. He was cool once. He can be again but he needs to work for it.

I met Anthony Daniels at a con, and he seemed nice enough; not overly enthusiastic, but coolly efficient. He also made an impromptu public appearance outside the venue one morning, and was MUCH more pleasant to the crowd of fans & families gathered around.

Don't worry about him mate. I'm a movie geek too and i've never met a single celeb except Russell Brand and I didn't know who he was at the time, my Ex started talking to him randomly in London lol Don't let the actor make you feel differently when watching Star Wars ect Terminator 2 and Predator are my favorite films since childhood and i'd never want to meet Arnold, he's just a dude but Terminator is a killing machine. Anthony Daniels is just some dude but C-3PO is Human Cyborg Relations lol 🤷‍♂

This is news? A friend of mine (retired librarian, brilliant costumer) helped behind the curtains at the DragonCon masquerade (Sorry. Don't have the year) when AD was MCing. His behavior was so rude and insulting that all the volunteers were angry and my friend was reduced to tears. No news here.

Such a shame. If it had been 30-40 years ago, and if they actually did conventions back then, and if you had asked Alec Guinness about one of his other roles, I'm sure he would've loved that, as he did get a bit annoyed at people only asking him about Star Wars. Anthony Daniels is well known to be not very nice.
