Anthony Esolen's lecture delivered at the annual conference of the Anselm Society. The Anselm Society's mission is a renaissance of the Christian imagination. Visit anselmsociety.org for more lectures, podcasts, and articles on faith and imagination.
"Teaching People to Open Their Eyes...After School and Politics Have Shut Them Tight." In this session Dr. Anthony Esolen speaks about the "twin refusals" - first, the refusal to see and appreciate human truths, and second, the refusal to be open to the divine. And he examines the challenges and opportunities of combating those refusals.
DR. ANTHONY ESOLEN
Anthony M. Esolen is a writer, social commentator, translator of classical poetry, and professor of English Renaissance and classical literature. He has taught at Furman University and Providence College, and joined the faculty of Thomas More College of Liberal Arts as a professor in 2017.

In addition to multiple books, he is the author of over five hundred articles in such publications as The Modern Age, The Catholic World Report, Chronicles, The Claremont Review of Books, The Public Discourse, First Things, Crisis Magazine, The Catholic Thing, and Touchstone, for which he serves as a senior editor. He is a regular contributor to Magnificat, and has written frequently for a host of other online journal.

When you get Anthony Esolen rolling behind a mic, you are very fortunate to be in attendance. A good man with a good mind. If only there were more of him sprinkled across academia.

Dr. Esolen is such a treasure! These videos of his talks should have millions of views, but they don’t, so we see he is an image of Jesus who brought beauty and truth and was rejected. Those who don’t watch his videos, just like those who let him go from their college, are the poorer for it. His students are indeed blessed.

Stunning. You never know if a writer is as good behind a podium as at a keyboard. Tony absolutely is, and he brought it with this talk.

Listen to Professor Esolen. "A Christmas Carol" and Tiny Tim may not save your soul but if you are Scrooge...they may...
