Anthony Scaramucci, also known as "The Mooch", is an American financier and political figure.
Scaramucci worked at Goldman Sachs' investment banking, equities, and private wealth management divisions between 1989 and 1996. After leaving Goldman Sachs, he founded Oscar Capital Management, and in 2005, he founded the investment firm SkyBridge Capital.
On July 21, 2017, Scaramucci was appointed White House Communications Director. He began work on July 25, although he had not yet been sworn in. Days into the job, Scaramucci provoked controversy after an expletive-laden interview with The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza, in which he made obscene and strongly derogatory statements about several members of the Trump administration.
Ten days after the announcement of his appointment, he was fired by President Donald Trump, on the recommendation of the new White House Chief of Staff, General John F. Kelly.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. @bill8985
@bill8985 2 жыл бұрын
@@theecon867 well, the etymology of the euphemism "patsy" is likely from the Italian word "pazzo," for, "crazy" or maybe even "fool." I have watched this Harvard-educated fool for some time, now. Of course, he's been outrageously successful (and I'm sure from good decisions, hard work but maybe also due to his enviable Harvard network). But in my mind, is still a fool. And don't forget, was made a fool of. Does he say things that are insightful and astute? Surely. Personally, I think it would be real fun to have some beers with him at a gritty pub in Porter or Davis Square. But I just see him working a bit too hard at spinning the truth. I believe he knows when he's BS'ing people. I guess that's the thing that gets me. And he spins his alt-fact sets of truths into a ball of something that resembles nonsense - especially for those who make the effort to triangulate the various possible perspectives of reality.

When I first watched and listened to his interviews a few years back, I was very impressed with him but to me he’s just another polished ‘politician’ who is in love with himself more than he touts he loves the USA. My opinion being an extremely intelligent, confident, charming, cocky, blowhard is what I’d call him. Similar to tRump, who lacked intelligence, finesse, they both came from the boroughs of NY. Personally I’m tired of him constantly throwing up the fact he came from a blue collar home. Granted, should he be proud of himself for all he’s accomplished, absolutely, but he’s not the only person who has done this. Both Obama’s came from similar backgrounds, as did other politicians on either side, and look how far they’ve come.

I could listen to this man all night because he tells it straight as a die and has some great arguments without blowing his own trumpet ... he's respectful of everyone whatever his personal history with the person, but he gives respectful reasoning and arguments to really explain his comments. I also agree that if we want to have good government, then we Must discuss politics what we want of our government and then get involved at a personal level by joining and working to bring in a government that best supports our beliefs, and then work from within to bring about what we want our government to look like. I have no doubt that he would make a darn good President. Trump is a narcissistic megalomaniac who I believe that he's also a sociopath or even a psychopath .... who I believe also has bipolar.. at least, but that is just my opinion ... and many of my Australian and American friends think the same thing.

If I had been in the room I like to think I'd have the temerity to raise my hand, if for no other reason than to challenge his cynicism. He's making a broad equivalence of the breadth of lying that is dangerous, as if to suggest you lied to your boss why you were late (which is inconsequential) equals lying about something that might have national or international consequence. It's not a stroke of genius, it's insane.

Not genius. Stupidity from the public and mass. Also nobody wants to get into the discussion about that with him. He'll just try to prove whoever raised their hands wrong. Nobody "owned." @Sumzja

To raise your hand would be further evidence that you are a liar because the implicit question is whether you have told a lie before and obviously everyone lies about everything, you leave things out, say things for effect, what is hyperbole if not lying for effect but it's acceptable and everyone understands when it's being used unless they are being willingly obtuse

I don't see what was so bad about this interview. I was there and I thought it was the best one that I've been to thus far. The interviewer asked valid questions and Anthony responded accordingly. The intent was not to 'challenge' him (that's what the audience is for). By letting him talk, you learn quite a lot about him and people tend to say some of the stupidest things when they get overconfident (in other words, the OU President was happy to let him destroy himself).

@@LewisLogan I thought he came off very well until he made that weird and cheap pass at the SA student. I'll grant that SA student was obviously trying to provoke, and moral grandstand, but frankly I didn't expect a guy Anthony's age would fall so badly for it. His attack wasn't even witty or particularly related to what the SA student's point was, he just said 'hey your country is fucked up too.' It's true the whole room was against him and that probably made him uneasy, but he should have expected that going in.

That was pretty interesting. Glad OU invites controversial people, gives them a fair space to express their views and positions, but also gives opportunity to the audience to challenge those. On the Mooch: I have huge respect for him for going to where he's challenged, be it here or Colbert's show. He claims to be honest and direct, but he deflects and twists way too casually. I still don't like him or his positions, but having the courage to be challenged is becoming way too rare a trait, and life would be so much easier if more people of public interest (and pretty much everybody else as well) were a bit moochier in that regard.

I very much enjoyed this interview and found myself to be rather pleasantly surprised by Mr. Scaramucci's eloquence and insight. Ironically, having just reviewed his (Scaramucci's) Twitter feed, it appears that his opinion of Donald Trump and his presidency have changed radically and seems to be focused on exposing all the ugly undersides of this administration. Interesting, but not surprising, as this administration seems to lose 'qualified' and 'competent' personnel on a regular basis. Well done, OxfordUnion!

42:30 that is a truly beautiful answer. I disagree with almost everything President Trump does and says and stands for but I do not understand reviling his voters. In India, in America and around the world people often vote not based on lofty policy principles but out of a simple need to see things change for the better. To help their families. We can't treat those people like traitors or like the enemy just because they have different political positions or an unpleasant opinion. We are not on separate teams we are all on a very big boat trying to sail to fair waters. I wish more people could understand that.

_"vote not based on lofty policy principles but out of a simple need to see things change for the better."_ Yeah the problem though is that they don't put any thought into it. They vote on very surface level to absolutely no understanding; making them easy to manipulate and bad at making judgements. Their vote is essentially a guess. That lofty policy may cause improvements in their life later down the line. They're not the enemy, but their fucking stupidity is. I know what you're saying though it's not really a counter to your message - I'm just sayin'. Take Brexit where there are people voting when they don't even know what _"no deal brexit"_ means or understand what europe is. They just can't get a job because of Polish immigrants, want a change for their family, and then vote for Brexit. Whereas if they thought about it a bit more they might be able to reason why leaving the EU won't improve their life overall all things considered because they'll get a job but wont be able to afford anything or get benefits. Or something like that just rifting an example I could vote both ways.

@Βασίλειος Φίλιπποu I'd point out that thing you quoted me on isn't my opinion and is just a hypothetical (for context). Fair play I wrote out an essay reply and then realised I misunderstood you lol. So are you pointing out that some people don't "think" about it or apply reason because they're voting for their favourite leader, regardless of truth or reason, and not trying to vote for who they will think will make their life better? Because if that's the case then it's almost a separate point from where I'm sitting. Since I'm talking about the people that vote for who they think will make their life better. And the lying, well, you fall into the 'stupid' camp imo if you believe politicians at face value anyway.

@@DerpBane why do you think that you know so much better than the people who voted for Trump, or Brexit. You think you're better. You think you're smarter. The coastal leftist forgot that there's a lot of people who don't want to live the way you want to tell us to live. And the ppl who voted for Brexit don't want their tax dollars sent to Brussels. It's not for you to decide who is right or wrong, just because you think you're more intelligent.

@@lucylou8907 _"why do you think that you know so much better than the people who voted for Trump, or Brexit."_ Actually I was largely in support of Trump and Brexit for my own reasons not covered...so, your whole comment is just a strawman because you haven't really understood my point or what I'm saying. It might be a level of abstraction above your level of observation...

@@DerpBane I believe you've just proven his point. You, obviously, have not had a discussion with a Trump supporter. Your accusation that we haven't put any thought into it is so condescending! I can tell you that I am not easy to manipulate. Quite the opposite. I have spent most of my adult life voting democrat. I even almost voted for Obama. The democrats have started government program after government program, supposedly to solve problems that they, in fact, created. And they are just as pro-war as the republicans. Trump was anti-war, and that's the main reason I voted for him. Clinton never met a war she didn't like.

Any time that Anthony was given the opportunity to condemn his own actions or the actions of the former president, he would do 1 of 3 things: ask for audience participation, create a stall (if *you* do *your* homework) or rephrase the question so that it avoids a direct answer. When asked about LGBT activist history, he said that he financially backed candidates that, coincidentally, held more impactful viewpoints on other, more favorable topics. He’s intelligent and he knows how to manipulate the conversation and the perspective.

Surprisingly compelling. Here, Scaramucchi displays all the characteristics of a classic movie villain: menace, duplicity, slipperiness, sliminess, crookedness, and the slightly psychotic persona of a smart Al Pacino-type gangster. He is indeed remarkably persuasive in his open and honourable comportment before the OU. But the look on his face when he is crossed - oh my... That's atavism for you.

Mooch has a tendency to mooch himself. He did not charm me, but you can see he has professional communication skills. He used many tricks (stuff taught in presentation and public speaking courses - personalizing himself through stories, confiding, vulnerability by admitting he got things wrong, use of hands and how he used them) to make it hard to dislike him. This was a careful, calculated performance until his ego was attacked and he lost a bit of control. But he caught himself again. I’m happy watched it. Any communicator can learn a lot from him and even from the things that don’t work so well. Thank you. I would love to see more talks from people that are more performers than authentic leaders.
