There is a product called the SKLZ Speed Sack that loads up to 30 pounds, which would be ideal for the resisted sprints. I would also recommend the SKLZ Speed Gate timing device. It is only $130, but I have found it to be pretty accurate. Not freelap obviously, but a good option for coaches on a tight budget or someone wanting to time themselves for sprints.

I’ll attest to the Sklz gate. Accurate out to about a fly 30. Maybe a 40 yd dash but for timing top speed or starts it does well for our team going into year 2 of building back from nothing.

Generally everything less than five seconds or… to the onset of some fatigue.

Hi coach, do you have your athletes increase the weight of their med ball throws each set? And what do your rest periods look like? Thank you.

No, we just pick a weight we can throw high without hitting the ceiling. 14# for strong kids. Rest is always “enough”.

Coach Holler, pardon me for asking…but on the 10 metre hill sprints…how much rest would you have between each of your 3 or 4 reps?

Enough to do the next at full speed. 1-2 minutes? Tired is the enemy.

HEY TONY, YOU MENTIONED SLED WORK COULD HELP WITH ACCELERATION. I AM OK WITH SPENDING MONEY TO GET FASTER, BUT COULD A PARACHUTE WORK IN THE EXACT SAME WAY AS A SLED OR AM I BETTER OFF GETTING A SLED (WHICH DOES COST WAYY MORE)?

Coach, would you do these drills on a S day or on a X Factor day? And I assume 3 -4 starts on a hill, would be enough, right? Just like the proper starts. Thank you in advance

Great info coach! What do you (as an expert in chemistry) think of using caffeine before sprint sessions for performance? As it supposedly has a similar effect on motor neurons as dopamine.

Caffeine is good! But, it may not be for everyone and I have trouble recommending it to teenagers. One thing is for sure, I wish was more caffeinated back in my playing days.

Lots of evidence supporting caffeine and performance. Pretty sure I heard the quote on a cycling channel ‘you’re not even trying to perform if you don’t take caffeine’
