Precise Aluminum Boat Decking Using Templates

In this video I tackle the project of decking a 17ft aluminum bass boat in sheet aluminum. The boat is a Lowe 170 and is a recent customer build of mine at #brigadeboats . This boat is a BEAST! It features all custom framing, a livewell in front deck, a mega hatch in rear for batteries fir electric outboard, an entire exterior layout change, Nate's Dry Hatches from TBNation.net, and much much more!!!
I'll pick things up in this step by step tutorial video post framing. I'll catch you up to speed on the project and then we will start decking. I include in thus video all materials needed, give an in depth look at the tools used, show how I make my templates, how I transfer and cut them from sheet aluminum, and how I properly attach the sheet aluminum to framing in the boat.
Thus video goes IN DEPTH with the install process and tools I use! You should be left with a clear example how how to create templates, cut sheet aluminum, and install in your own project!

Very informative! I think it is also worth mentioning that if you use countersink rivets you should also match the degree of angle and rivit diameter of the rivit to the bit you are counter sinking with.

Looks great what gage aluminum should I use on my 16 ft 1998 sea nymph jon boat 1648. I just want a floor that is lightweight and won't rot. And after I lay it down were can I buy the turf? Keep up the great builds man im loving the information and new subscriber

Did you do the full layout? This is by far the most creative decking layout you've done so far. Your blowing me away with each video. It just keeps getting better and better!

Yes. Livewell was in back. Gutted entire back, made it open. Moved livewell up front with completely new tub and plumbing. Removed steering consol, added 3 ft to front deck in place of it. Added step to deck for batteries. Upsized hatch in front with recessed trolling motor tray. Added cockpit side panel steps. Only thing original is the factory rod locker location and panel, although it got a new lid. More to be shown and explained in the reveal/build video when complete.
