I've tried the new AI Denoise on a few " problem " images and I have to say I'm very impressed! My AI denoise defaults to 50 which seems to do a great job. Better still is this improves my workflow. I generally apply a linear profile to all my raw files in the first instance and set my white balance. After reducing sharpness to zero I then take it into Topaz Denoise. For very noisy images however I usually take the raw file into Topaz first as I feel it gives better results than sending a converted tiff via lightroom using " edit in ". The problem with this workflow is I could never send my actual raw file with my linear profile applied by going direct to Topaz. With this new LR Denoise not only can I apply my linear profile at the beginning but LR is actually working with my raw file to do the Denoise. The resulting DNG created shows no colour shifts and is identical to my raw file, less the noise ☺️ The resultant DNG seems to retain great post editing ability too. All in all I think Adobe did very well here 👍

Hi Anthony. Thank you for all your excellent videos comparing noise reduction. I do have a request though. A lot of my work involves portraiture, sometimes featuring musicians in very dark rooms. Noise is very much an issue. Would it be possible for you to add a noisy human portrait to your test images? I've been looking at LR's new AI noise reduction for portraits and it seems to make skin very plastic in tone. DxO PureRaw 3 is much better for portraits. However, I'd like your take on it.

I did compared 1 of my nightscape images with high iso 6400 . DXO vs Lr AI deniose The Lr created some artifacts line on my photo but DXO had none. So I still prefer to use DXO all day long. I just don't tick Camera module and lens collection as the sharpening process of it is way over the top and its len collection does not work well when the later post process takes place. However, I would not make this a conclusion, I will try to experiment this when I have new photos as they might give the different result photo by photo.

Hi Anthony - thank you for this and all the other nice videos. Very nice to see LR adding this feature to compete with other AI powered software. One question about this video. After Lightroom creates a new DNG file, am I able to convert this into standard .jpg file during export?
@Jonathantuba Жыл бұрын
I am just trying out this feature. Two things I have noted is it is slower than Topaz Denoise and the DNG files created are huge, 220 Mb in my case - three times the size of the original Sony RAW files.
@gbee8888 Жыл бұрын
Sure you did not have the super resolution box ticked?
@AnthonyMorganti Жыл бұрын
Yes, they arrive uncompressed so they're very large.
@spgolder107 Жыл бұрын
The DNG produces a Linear Raw file. That is each pixel is assigned 3 colors (RGB) instead of 1 in a regular RAW file Thus more data must be included. Also if the file out your camera was compressed , that will also be a factor
@mhdickson Жыл бұрын
Thanks for heads up about the update , I literally finished editing an event with a lot of low light shots that are ok but some are high iso grainy . Going to play with the AI now & see if that’s better than the fiddling I did to improve them !
@mhdickson Жыл бұрын
So it’s ok, about 30% was acceptable for faces , but interestingly it removed something , someone had a blue jacket that has black stripes with narrower red stripes on either side … like a red border on each . The red was deleted by the AI . So take care with detail . It’s also not as fast as other LR functions . I have a new M2 max with high specs & still takes a while to do it. Other things like export or import are blindingly fast, it’s a good start but I’d expect some updates

@AnthonyMorganti Жыл бұрын
When you're working on a Raw file that Denoise is compatible with, Enhance is automatically applied during the Denoise process. When you try it out, you'll see that Enhance is grayed out but checked when doing Denoise.

I like the option to add the denoised dng to a stack with the original. I’m just finding after a couple years of DxO PureRAW use that my file organization hasn’t been great, I’ve been shuffling originals in to a separate catch all folder and only organizing the dngs. Creating stacks is probably best practice, or at least closer to best practice than what I was doing
@AnthonyMorganti Жыл бұрын
I got away from using Stacks and only now, just started doing it again and I agree, having all these extra files isn't the best thing but Stacks definitely helps.
@tectorama Жыл бұрын
I don't know if I was doing something wrong, but using the default settings LR Denoise took about 40 minutes to render a DNG file. I think my problem is my graphics card, which up until now has worked well in handling RAW files in LR. I've had no trouble with Topaz Denoise, but the LR version seems memory hungry.
@simonvail458 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I used Denoise on a recent theatre photo shoot and it works well. The images are cleaner. However, I can't work out to export the DNG file and use the file's original file number. When I exported the images as JPGs for submission to the client I could only export them with 'custom file name' - which I usually do - and a sequence of numbers beginning with '1', not the original file number. What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

Lightroom being non-destructive will never write or modify the original Raw file and the nature of Denoise is that it cannot be stored in the catalog to be overlayed to the preview like the other adjustments we do in Lightroom are. I just purchased a 5TB drive for $119. Size isn't that big of a deal for me to have that extra file taking up space and personally, I would like the extra file to be able to do comparisons with other products. So yes, if you have limited hard drive space, the extra file is an issue but I don't see any way around it. Additionally, if you use Denoise, PureRaw, NoNoise AI, etc, you're getting another file and that file is very large as well.
@EverythingCameFromNothing Жыл бұрын

Messing around with it, it doesn't seem to matter. I suspect when you Denoise an image, it ignores any Lightroom adjustments that were done and references the unadulterated Raw file to calculate the noise reduction then, when the new DNG file is created, it overlays the Lightroom adjustments you did on top of that new DNG file.
