I want to clarify something. In the photo of the Cinereous Vulture, I mentioned that to minimize a chain-link fence in-camera, I said something to the effect of, "You need to shoot as wide as possible with the fence as close to the lens as possible and the animal away from the fence." I was a little lazy with my words there. When I said, "...shoot as wide as possible...", I was referring to the aperture, not the focal length. Use a wider aperture for a shallow depth of field to blur out the fence. Also, a longer lens would be beneficial. A 200mm lens will have a shallower depth of field than a 35mm lens. So, use a longer lens with a wider aperture as close to the fence as possible, and hopefully, the animal is further away from the fence.

I understood what you were saying - there are many occasions when I've had to shoot through a fence and often don't like the results. I'm now anxious to try this feature to fix - or at least minimize - the OOF fence.

I always like to keep up with the latest aspects of Photoshop, and am glad there are people like you who keep up with all the advances and inform folks like me who are retired and still want to be informed. This was part of my job when I was the Technology Supervisor at National Geographic. I am now retired but do a lot of Volunteer work for our local government and the Police dept.

I hope to see this new feature very soon in LrC. Like most photographers, I use LrC for my photo collection and basic editing. When I send a raw photo from LrC to Photoshop, then this new feature does not work, the file-type .psd is not supported. But I tried it yesterday with some raw images directly into Photoshop and the results were really amazing. Wow. Then I saved the results to .psd files and imported them in my catalogue in LrC. This works, but it would be easier if the new feature accepts .psd files or when I can do this in LrC. Maybe someday in the future.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to see what it can do with reflection on eye glasses

I forgot to mention in the video that I tired on two images I had with strobe reflections in glasses and it didn't work. Hopefully, in the near future, that is something that it can handle.

@@AnthonyMorganti Although I try very hard to not have the glare in eye glasses sometimes I do get some and just have a very hard time trying to get it out. I can see this new tool can be very helpful otherwise.

I've tried that! Amazing!! Quick tip 👉 if you move the slider below zero you'll only see the reflections that the AI is removing! Like at -100 you only see reflections! Cool.

See my response to John regarding how to do it directly in Ps, currently a RAW sent to Ps from Lr won't work.

Cool tool. Does it affect reflections in subject’s eyes? Maybe in future iterations it will be combined with masking so that could be possible.
@stevenanthony57811 сағат бұрын
Given that window reflections are similar in light quality to lens flare, I think you'll find "remove reflections" also reduces lens flare.

I too photograph a lot in zoos and I started experimenting on some images that I'd never edited because of the ghosting from the mesh fencing. I was gobsmacked at how great it does remove it on most images, it's going to save me soooo much work. I just need to sort out a better work flow (until it's released into Lightroom CC) as I always send my photos from Lr into Ps.

In my year of "bad photos" I'm embracing reflections. They tell the viewer about the circumstances of the work. I try to use the rectangles in chain-link fences and similar as framing elements.

Thanks for that Anthony. I have been playing with it on some hockey photos shot through plexiglass. The players were very close to the plexi. I found that it works best around 40-50%. Slamming it to 100% erases arena background detail too much. 40-50% however, cuts the glare on their faces to where you can see the facial expressions and get a more compelling photo without it looking fake. I hope Adobe brings it to LRC and can read NEF files sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the info and advice. I didn't yet know it was available. It was also a good idea to try it in a zoo, with glass, with fences etc. as well as on glasses. What about water surfaces: could it replace a polaroid filter? I guess not with still water surfaces, maybe with moving water as it follows a pattern-like effect... I will certainly try it with some of my older zoo nightmare pictures...

Thanks BigA! Got some through the chainlink images of G-Daughter14 at baseball, can't wait to see how it handles them, curious about any blur, sometimes that's cool. Any talk of a mask limiter? sometimes i carve up the plane, treat each layer, re-assemble. Chaos can be fun!

Quickie couple of questions, do you think this will appear in Lightroom/LRC, and secondly would a CPL filter help reduce reflections?
@davidf632610 сағат бұрын
Not particularly surprised the tool struggled with the photograph of the coffee shop window. I suspect it's detecting relative sharpness and contrast and the reflections in that image are as clear - if not clearer - than the actual subjects behind the glass. Not sure this tool will ever be able to handle a situation like that because it's all but impossible to differentiate between reflections and subject. Maybe some controls to define the intended subject might improve matters.

Have you tried it with spectacles.

Thanks for posting. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or if there is an issue with this new feature. I open a dng file in adobe bridge. I then edit the file using camera raw to remove the glass reflection. At this point, all is looking good. While in Camera Raw, I click on done, which returns back to Bridge. Finally, while in Bridge I export the image (with glass reflection removed) as a dng file. When I look at the exported dng file, it reverts back to the original un-edited image. Any suggestion as to what I might be doing wrong?

Great feature, but it does not currently work on Canon CR3 raw files.
@AnthonyMorgantiКүн бұрын
Good to know. Try it on a CR3 uncompressed file to see it it works. Or, vice-versa. I know with some apps, Canon's compressed Raw files cause a problem.
@helenmb6122 сағат бұрын
It works fine on my Canon R5 and R6 CR3 files, you just need to open them directly in Photoshop (not send from Lr) so it forces the CR3 straight into ACR, do the Reflection adjustment first and DeNoise etc then click the open button and it'll open the image into Ps with these adjustments. Then make sure you Save As to choose the format you want eg .tiff. If you (like me) usually send your files from Lr I to Ps then you'll need to right click the folder it came in Lrfrom and choose Sychronise folder so it imports into to your Lr catalog.
@jamesshrouds41308 сағат бұрын
@ That worked perfectly. Thanks so much. Hopefully, Adobe will ultimately set this feature up so you can go from LrC to PS and still be able to use the reflection adjustment. Thanks again.
