Hello Anthony. Late to the party but the idea of writing the fretboard out is 100% useful. Ive only been playing since last October, i did have a bass in my youth (80s) but nothing come of it., but one of the first things i did on my return was draw out the fretboard and notes. I also grabbed a bunch of ziplock bags , overlayed them on the notes and marked out the scales, Arpeggios, triads etc. So at a moments notice i could practice whatever I fancied by just overlaying the ziplock bag. It works a treat. What i like about your shows - You! and your ability to communicate complex theories to a begginer like me. Now, what would I consider an improvement. I think just slowing down a bit, mebbe at the cost of some content but that could be a quick "short" video mebbe. Great channel and a great tutor. Thank you for taking the time to share your remarkable knowledge of a beautiful instrument. Peace ❤ Ps: I know this is an old show now but felt id like to contribute to your shows end comments.

What I like is your humanity and your conversational approach to the subject matter. Like there is just you and me and your giving me a lesson. Very effective.

What I like most about the lessons is the very difficult concepts explained very well. And the fact that you can make mistakes and we actually learn from the mistakes in real time. What I don’t like is you never post your gigs. Maybe that’s a good idea though because you would have every snotty nose pimple face kid at your gig… you would probably never get laid then😂

Hahahahah man, I have posted footage from gigs through the years. But, thanks for your comment. You made my night! 😅😅😅

The concepts you explain are easy to understand , and while technical proficiency comes from practice, I can see incremental progress in the overwhelming knowledge presented. Thank you Sir.

I hope Im not too late! What I like about your videos is you take your time to explain concepts and then you demonstrate it. What I don't like about your lessons is sometimes you tend comment on your self too much. Example: "I don't not like making long videos" I feel like its not something we need to know. If you didn't say anything we wouldn't know the difference. Keeping everything short and concise is always good. I also like the fact you approach a lot of the issues uniquely with exercises I don't see too many instructors using in their youtube channel.

I'm way too late for the lessons, but: What I like about your lessons is that you present content that I have not heard anywhere else, and it focuses on learning the hell out of the instrument. "Understanding" it as you say. What I don't like: occasionally you present the material much faster than I am capable of understanding it. Thanks for the lessons!

What I love about your videos is that you always have an alternative, inventive and really helpful way of looking at things. Really opens me up. What I think you could improve on in your videos is getting to the point a bit faster.

Thx Anthony!you are really a good teacher.i really like the words "the four string is a great school" this is the first time I decide to write something,not only for the chance.i really like your teaching,even though sometimes i can't understand very well (cuz I'm Chinese student and my English is not so good but I'm trying to figure out)you resolved many questions of mine,you have your own way of teaching and that is the biggest difference compared to the other.but if you can sometimes slow down your speed and more acting,it'll be better for us.plz forgive me if i make something wrong:-)

First of all thank you for sharing! I have never been to Berkeley or any Music school ! I enjoyed learning from your easy and simple approach! Many musicians do not properly break down lessons as you keep doing ! What I would recommend is having another camera on the fretboard to zoom in ! Also when talking about the fretboard slow it down a bit . I know time is limited but you can always do 4 parts etc. Thank you ! I now have to go and shed ! 😀

Hello Anthony,I appreciate your lessons and how you phrase the actual concept of musicality. The things I like about your lessons are that you keep it simple and explain how you construct your concept. I particularly like the lesson on "no modes" very enlightening and it took some of the apprehension away of how to think about your approach. Another thing I like is that you voice out what your playing by singing along. I think this forces a person to think about the scales from an internal voice instead of relying on an instrument for the scale. I'm not sure if there is anything I don't like but I guess it would be that maybe the lesson is too fast. Maybe a more broken down version would be helpful or explaining how you hear it first in your head before it makes it's way to the fretboard. I find difficulty in reproducing cool grooves for the sake of grooving and practicing concepts because I don't hear them first and need to hear music to play along. It really inhibits my ability to solo and when I have an opportunity, I freak out. lol. just being honest. Well I hope this helps and I look forward to learning more from you. God bless,Sam

Im assuming its too late for a free lesson also. But what I like is the serious approach you take to teaching bass. Sure some of its confusing but if a bass player understands the major scale and basic harmony repeated viewing makes it all the more clear. Plus I love your tone. I assumed you were here in the states but youre in Dubai. I mentioned on another of your post where you played drums that you were "handling" drums but you were actually very good. So I hope you didnt take offense to my wording. I was just so focused on your bass skills.

Love hate four string bass. "it pisses me off" HA! AM you make me LOL. I love you mannerisms and content. Thank you.
@JERIMize7 жыл бұрын
I would say the best part would be different way of your approach like displacing pitches of a scale and playing all with in an confined octave.You have a clear map of what you do,nothing i don't like here.

Fantastic lesson, I love that last exercise! I like how deep you get into each concept and emphasize maximizing it's use thru all keys. I'd like to hear you play thru the concept demonstrating the idea in a standard or other song. Great work overall, I'm getting a lot out of these!

i assume U're not giving away Skype lessons anymore, but i still wanted to answer the questions: 1) What i like about Ur lessons: how U articulate Ur ideas and make them clear for us, how right U are about things (for instance, here U mention how extended range players think vertically and it's true, i have this problem and am thinking about getting a four strings when i can afford it to really "study" the instrument instead of jamming to KZbin videos), i love Ur accent too and the fact that U play on a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass. 2) and i hate the fact that U play on a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass because i sold mine a couple of years ago and now U make me want to get a new one.. Or a Classic Vibe P-Bass but i have to be thinking about dental surgery instead grrrrrrr. And i hate that U're showing me all the work that still lies ahead... And i thank U immensely for that...

hahahaha! Man, i sincerely cracked up reading your comment! Thanks so much for the kind words. Unfortunately skype has been banned out here in the UAE so I guess I need to look at alternatives to get stuff rolling.

Anthony M haha glad it made U laugh!! Seriously, U're good. Been following on IG for a while and didn't know about this KZbin channel... U're in Dubai right??? Can't U relocate Ur IP address in another country??? I'm not sure how to do it but I know it's pretty easy to do... Did U get Ur five strings???
