Great Lesson, I take the same approach. Its really not hard to learn the Cmajor scale up and down the neck and start in different positions and singing. It also helps me to play the chord on bass and use the piano while singing. It develops your ear and harmony. Thanks for posting your lessons.

This reminds me I think, of the soloing section which may likely be played during All the Things You Are. Not the head: but the solos. If not A T Y A, then I can’t remember. It also resonates with Bing Crosby-esque, white Christian Christmas Carols....

Hi Anthony. I wonder if jaco was into modes? Never heard him mention them once.

Honestly in my opinion, many of the greats in jazz rarely mention modes a whole lot. To me it's complicated and I personally think Jaco didn't think modes or modal tonality. His compositions sound like a landscape rather than a system of scale/modal navigation. That's my take. Hope that answers your question!

He knew them inside and out, but his compositions weren't guided by any kind of rigid modal theory.
