I've seen a lot of people trying to figure out what the message for this MV was and the controversies that have come from certain interpretations. After listening to Simon's IG posts, explanations, and XGALX docu-series this is what I was able to figure out: the girls are singing about how the industry treats girl groups, particularly overseas. If you pay attention to the lyrics you can catch some of the more heavy implications on how many companies view their artists: "It's time I get what I deserve. Act like you don't know what I'm worth. We spend a lot of time talking, but it feels like I'm never heard." Obviously, the artists aren't being taken seriously, no matter how hard they work, how much attention they garner, or money they're earning the company. They still are being mistreated and disregarded, used as products/brands. A great example of that is when Harvey's part comes up early on. "Listen to what comes out my mouth, before you try to take me out." Now you can take that at face value or look deeper into what she's saying. Paired with the fact that she's speaking out, Harvey points to her mouth while singing. Upon closer examination, her teeth appear to be dark and bloody as if someone hit her in retaliation. The MV transitions as Harvey then points to Jurin. The first thing that everyone notices with her are her sharp shark teeth and quick elbow jabs into the air (as if she's fighting, you see the group punching and using the same elbow move again later on). The differences in Harvey and Jurin's appearances leave lasting impressions despite how beautiful they are. They're still being puppeteered by outside forces as the girls fight to be treated fairly. " We'll make them do what WE enjoy" "They'll do anything, anything, when you got them hanging by a string" "We play them like they're plastic dolls" Unsurprisingly, many industry contracts are unfair. It isn't uncommon to have the artist do things that they personally do not agree with or want to do - they become the product to be dressed up and showcased how the company sees fit. Take for instance how Juria is trying to run, eventually jumping up towards the balloon (her ambitions) to float away. Before she can escape, she's grabbed by the ankle as one of the white giants holds her back. The same giant holds onto Hinata, keeping the 3 of them grounded as Hinata helplessly looks up to Juria. Likewise you see Chisa, Jurin, Hinata, and Maya look for escape routes. Many of the "artists" also try to escape, but they blow up in the white beams of lights. It isn't until the artist, the one in blue and white, takes a deep look at Hinata and disappears that things change. The one in white and blue that explodes, that is symbolic of their producer Simon. Simon was also in the music industry before XGALX. He was actually a member of the boy group DMTN. He faced many of the same hardships as XG and saw the ins and outs of how the industry worked with their artists, how poorly many of them were treated, and the sort of environments that they were made to grow in. He wanted to break away from it all, find his own company, and do things in a manner where young artists could grow in a healthier environment. This is how XG was founded. When the explosion bursts into blue smoke, the ground shakes and all the people except XG fall. This is because XG is elite, being nourished and trained by producers and a company that genuinely cares for them and their opinions. No one else can hold a candle to them as they make waves across the board.

Wow your explanation is very detailed and extraordinary, I got goosebumps when I read your explanation, now I just know the meaning of all the lyrics of this song, thank you very much bro, I'm falling in love with XG even more, maybe XG is the only girl group currently who dares to open their voice through the lyrics of their songs and express all the complaints experienced by trainees, especially trainee from overseas.

Thats what I´ve been telling people, I feel like the line "We spent a lot of time talking, but it feels like Im never heard" fits really well here (since a lot of people didnt understand the lyrics at all) , people usually just take the lyrics too literally and make conclusions without thinking about it for a second. Some people even thought that they were saying that women should control men, I guess that nowadays attention span is really short, even if you take the lyrics literally its more of a hypotethical vengeance to their past boyfriend.

Puppet Show is being based as the idol life makes more sense now. The other day when they first performed live for Puppet Show their white uniforms reminded me when the girls used to perform on secret shows(back when they were 10 girls) as shown in Xtra Xtra.

@@naivet When I listened to this song for the first time I thought the lyrics were about XG itself because they are still not considered and underestimated by some people, especially haters because their identity is still being debated until now, but it turns out it goes deeper than that. XG is special, I am lucky to be able to witness the journey of a great group like XG.

Judging from AVEX’s annual report it’s reflecting successful growth of fandom (SNS views, followers and monthly listeners) right after SS, LR and Gals Xypher but they need to keep growing if we expect the same level of investment in the next comeback (so please spread XG in your social circle and buy their album if you haven’t)

There is a lot of theories going on what it is about. Here are some answers that might be helpful. Harvey has dark teeth, it is an old Japanese tradition that every married woman must do to show obedience to their husbands. Bali has a similar tradition where women would sharpen their teeth to show obedience like Jurin has. Hinata also has a hairstyle resembling a traditional wedding hair set of Mongolian women. Others also have a veil on or some wedding hair pieces. Theory could mean they were expected to be obedient but they are fighting back, like grabbing destiny in their own hands and taking control. Quite literally taking leap of faith. Some people say it could be talking about K-pop industry or music industry in general on how controlling it is. Often musicians are i contracts where they have strong concept to the point where they have to lie about things they like to do and fake personality. Girls are here then turning tables and tsking control instead, so they can do what they actually enjoy.

Just wanted to share the story and lore behind the music video., credit to @exScythed. - The XG girls are lowered individually into Buddhist Hell by the thread of a spider (the scene with Chisa represents this). The figures you see in the very beginning are wearing traditional Buddhist headdresses. They are surrounded by spirits who are caught in a cycle of reincarnation that never ends. (In Buddhism the “spider’s thread” is a reference to how Buddha took the thread of a spider in Heaven and lowered it down to Hell so that a criminal can climb up from Hell to Paradise. Therefore the thread of a spider is a symbol of slight hope aka a silver lining and of fragility. In the story it’s stated that the thread descended through “many layers of sky and clouds.”) - The XG girls look on sadly as many spirits attempt to reach Paradise and fail, exploding into nothingness (Chisa looking down from her perch represents this.) - Even though the XG girls are hailed as goddesses by the other spirits (represented by the way the other spirits bow to them) they realize they still can’t reach Paradise alone aka achieve enlightenment. - This changes when the XG girls find each other in death, realizing that their meeting was fate in order for them to reach Paradise together (they are tied together by the “red string of fate” and “hesonoo” is Japanese for umbilical chord.) This is represented four times in the video and twice in the chorus of the song; When Juria is running to help a spirit and meets Hinata there’s a close up of her eye where we see her having a vision of an explosion, when Harvey (who has black teeth which in Japan is a common practice amongst women because it represents a “woman with virtues”) meets Jurin, when the XG girls rap/dance together as a group with the drums, and when a wayward spirit’s failure to achieve enlightenment causes an explosion which knocks everyone down leaving only XG standing strong. There’s also a ton of fourth wall breaks showing that they’ve broken away from the circle the spirits are stuck walking in. They know the Truth aka achieved enlightenment and know you’re watching basically. Also, it is only in the later two choruses the girls adlib together. The first chorus, when they haven’t met in the video yet, has none. - Before XG goes, they bless one of the spirits who is heavily implied to be pregnant with a girl (the moon is associated with womanhood, XG fans are ALPHAZ aka wolves) and has earned the right to be reincarnated. - The XG girls take a literal leap of faith together and successfully reach Paradise! The music video is tied to XG’s themes of female empowerment-women have two “x” chromosomes, the girls are “extraordinary,” they have the “x-factor,”they represent a better future for women which is connected to the idea that the next generation of children (children birthed by women who have “new DNA”) are the future hence the futurism stuff. I hope this helps anyone!

it can also be interpreted as stepping into adulthood, cause as a child you are more free but when you become an adult you are far more controlled, whether it be in your work or in your play, you can't just do what you want as an adult (bills need to be paid and jobs need to be kept) plus your actions have real lasting if not permanent consequences

Every song has a meaning from raw emotions to refined reactions. Some song are frowned upon. This song is a big middle finger to the censorship of the Korean government. Go back and read the lyrics. It can mean about bf gf drama but it's not. Read the lyrics and you'll know exactly what Simon's intent is with this song. Just so everyone knows the singer Billy Joel is forever banned from S Korea and is labeled dangerous for promoting rebellious behavior among the youth of the time. I wanna say mid '90s it happened but yeah I do believe this is that middle finger to the SK censorship. But this song is good. What is there that XG cannot do?
