Thanks but the credit goes to Victor Turner :) It's nice that you listened to this because people tend to focus on his (admittedly brilliant) work on ritual.

Thank you too. Turner's theory of liminality is most famous; but I find his other work on symbols equally useful.

Interesting! Thanks. Can you please explain " importantly for us... they do hunting, men go hunting" Who do you mean by 'us' and why is it important?
@NicholasHerriman5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca, thanks for your message. The "us" is probably "us" as anthropologists looking for significance and meanings in a society, but I'd better check. Could you give me the time in the lecture?

@@NicholasHerriman see 4 mins 51, talking about the Ndembu people. Thanks

@@rebeccafox536 Oh I think I should have said "the focus of Turner's essay, and this presentation, is on men's hunting clans not on women on Ndembu society". I would like to read about the different attitudes of women about the men's clans; I hope someone researches that.

Sir could you explain the difference between greets and Turner's approach

I think I address that question in this blog: anthropologyofsymbols.blogspot.com/2017/11/8-symbols-explaining-using-positioning.html
