Instant follow for not saying "bright indirect light" like everyone says for every plant!! Drives me batty. "Bright shade, dappled sunlight is SO much more specific, thank you!
@plantgayforlife9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the follow! Most houseplants are shade growing tropical plants. That’s why so many common houseplants are given the “bright indirect light” instruction. But most ppl’s homes are still wayyyy too dark and that causes plants to slowly die. Basically if you are walking a trail in the woods on a sunny day, the light hitting the ground is “bright indirect light.” Little to no direct sun, but rather bright shade. That’s similar to the light these plants get growing under the rainforest canopy😁
@ladylove349 ай бұрын
@@plantgayforlife exactly!! I always had easy plants and switched to harder ones and just learned that it's too dark inside! I will search for info about a plant and I really want to know how much light it absolutely needs and how much (direct sun or darkness) it can tolerate. Thanks for tips. Looking forward to watching more 🙌🏿

I have quite a number of anthuriums; they are mostly living in my cabinet as they seem to thrive in humidity. I planted my anthuriums in my own chunky potting mix. It’s interesting that you explained certain leafs type require certain watering.
@plantgayforlife Жыл бұрын
I used to have them all in cabinets and grow tents as well. But as I curated my collection, the ones I kept got too big and had to be moved out. I even have one anthurium that's become a 3 foot tall floor plant! That's when I realized watering and humidity around the roots was more important, and now most of my anthuriums don't flinch when the humidity drops below 30% in the winter!

Thanks for the tips, I consider myself an intermediate gardener but I've struggled so much with my Anthurium and Alocasia (literally all dead or dormant at the moment) that I gave up on them completely. Last week, I bought some Pon and self-watering pots on a whim and I think I'll try to save them... especially since I just got myself an Anthurium pedatoradiatum for $10 in the clearance section! Glad I found you! I have just started my Anthuriums adventure starting with Palidiforium, Magnificum and Queen. I use all terracotta pots and am thinking as long as I keep the substrate moist it should be fine, but you scared me about the roots. I have some nice plastic clear pots coming, I guess I’ll switch to those instead. 😢
@plantgayforlife7 ай бұрын
Anthuriums are great and not difficult once you understand their needs! That being said…terracotta can work against you in a household environment. The dry air (compared to, say, a greenhouse) will dehydrate the substrate much faster. I know someone who grows anthuriums VERY well in terracotta but he waters them every other day. The vase/no drainage-hole method I use allows me more time in between waterings so that I’m not constantly watering plants. I can leave for a week and return, and my plants will not be dehydrated. Anthuriums are not like philodendrons, most of them require consistent moisture and will not grow well if they dry out in between waterings too often.

Hey there, so i currently have a cutting, single stem with some roots but the leaf has some browning, so I cut the leaf
@plantgayforlife2 ай бұрын
If there’s one leaf, leave it on until it falls off on its own. A green stem can still grow roots and a new growth point if you keep it in water and keep the light bright.

Can you elaborate more on the care for could forest anthurium? I've had a cutucuense for a couple weeks now and I'm having a hard time finding care info for it. Thank you!

I haven’t grown that particular species so I couldn’t give specific care tips. Ask in an anthurium Facebook group like “Anthurium Addicts” and hopefully someone who has grown and cared for that species can help!

Cool info… ill be receiving my anthoriums from Eddy Pranoto of Indonesia this Feb 14. Hope they will arrived healthy… My plan will be in an outside environment, well.. i live in Phil so i have good weather condition all through out the year which is good for anthoriums, the only thing i have to consider is the direct sunlight. Raining season wont be a problem as i can just put plastic shed above. 😂😂😂

Use a shade cloth and you’ll be fine! And make sure the rain doesn’t drench them. Happy growing 😊

Thank you for this informative video 🙏 I've only got two Anthuriums in my home at present. A clarinervium and a pallidiflorum. Maybe I'll try that semi-hydro approach.

those are two great hardy species!

Anthurium forgetii X Anthurium luxuriens is the next mountain to climb…. Have heard Forgetii hard, BUT - have seen your advice to a beginner in growing Anthuriums to try Luxuriens. AHA! Maybe I can do the hybrid…? Well, I shall try.
@plantgayforlife Жыл бұрын
Both are great anthuriums to grow! Forgetii slightly less hardy than luxurians but not difficult to grow
