Here’s a fun fact for you: polarity isn’t a man-made concept, it’s something that is ingrained into the very fabric of our universe. While we might argue about which actions lay where on what spectrum of explanation these days, you gotta admit that life’s simpler when you see things in neat opposites. And maybe that’s what the Big Bang thought as well, because when it decided to give birth to the universe, it gave rise to two opposing concepts that occupy all creation; and perhaps something beyond it, as well. Human beings are composed entirely of one of those things, and so is most of the current known universe. But while matter is all around us, its counterpart is so rare that scientists can only synthesize it in negligible quantities and strictly for research. While anti-matter is the borderline-absentee counterpart of matter in our universe, in DC, it is the source of the alternate universe from where its most dangerous threats emerged for a very long time. And of all these threats, one entity managed to re-shape the entire DC continuity. Created by Marv Wolfman, George Pérez, and Jerry Ordway, the Anti-Monitor debuted in Crisis on Infinite Earths issue #2 and has gone on to become one of the worst threats that the Justice League has ever faced. @@galibx2332 already have. The new52 isn't separate from the multiverse. It's apart of the main timeline. Flashpoint erased the previous universes and left the new 52. Rebirth is nothing more than a relaunch of previous pre crisis elements. It's still the new 52 just no longer called that. Not even rebirth is used anymore. Now it's infinite frontier. They even went ahead and merged post crisis superman and new 52. Batman from death metal is the same batman that was "killed" by darkseids omega beams in final crisis. Rebirth is the new 52.

@@michaelb2226 I never said it was separate from the multiverse but separate from the main continuity and you probably didn't read it properly and it was Dr Manhattan that made the new 52 and many other changes, flash had a hand to it by rebooting it but Manhattan came and did the rest, which you should have known that. And it was also stated in Doomsday Clock that new 52 universe is a separate universe.

There’s one villain in DC that I bet could CRUSH the Anti-Monitor LIKE A GNAT: The Empty Hand. This entity, the literal manifestation of the empty hand of the reader after the comic is put down and everything ends, is so powerful that when He sent His servants, eldritch beings known as the Gentry, to the DC multiverse in order to test its defenses, the combined might of the superheroes of 50 universes could barely defeat them. And this was just a test. Nix Uotan, the final monitor, was toyed with by Him before being turned into His thrall. Final point: The Empty Hand was responsible for the destruction of Multiverse 2, which would be LEAGUES beyond anything we’ve seen the Anti-Monitor do.

A universe is a terrible thing to waste but both Marvel and DC have them munched up like M&M's the number of big bads who have destroyed one or more universes is amazing. Uber bads like the Anti-Monitor are such two edged sword given the right story they are great for the massive super multi character multi comic line arc but people keep bringing them back and it is rare that their next appearance is as good or better than their first I'm a strong believer that these character should be one and done. Even lesser bads Like Darksied and Thanos have to be handled very carefully to keep them from becoming silly (something that both characters have done) needing more and more Deus Ex Machina ways of bringing them down.

Sadly this is an issue that occurs whenever characters are insanely powerful. When you already have multiple characters who are nigh invincible, it only gets more ridiculous as stakes continue to rise. I see this in movies, tv shows, manga, anime, comics, ect. This is why I usually prefer more grounded power systems. Stakes rise way too quickly when characters are planetary level in strength.

The DC comics version of antimatter vs. matter is not the same as the science defining both... except when it is... and again when it is not. As far as I see it, Anti-Monitor happens when a story needs something virtually invincible as the big bad enemy who eventually gets killed until needing resurrection, a more extreme version of Darkseid. It's playing the god card without playing a god card.
