ANTIBES without tourists in SUMMER. ONCE IN A LIFETIME look.
Picasso museum. Yachts and antiques.
From around the middle of the 19th century the Antibes area regained its popularity, as wealthy people from around Europe discovered its natural environment and built luxurious homes there.[citation needed] It was transferred from its former department of Var to the new one of Alpes Maritimes in 1860.[7] The harbor was again used for a "considerable" fishing industry and the area exported dried fruit, salt fish, and oil.[7]
By the First World War, it had been connected by rail with Nice and most of its fortifications had been demolished to make way for new residential districts.[17] In 1926, the old Château Grimaldi was bought by the local municipality and later restored for use as a museum. Pablo Picasso came to the town in 1946, having visited his friend and fellow painter Gerald Murphy and his wife Sara there in 1923, and was invited to stay in the castle. During his six-month stay, Picasso painted and drew, as well as crafting ceramics and tapestries. When he departed, Picasso left a number of his works to the municipality. The castle has since become the Picasso Museum.

Love the promenades through the side streets, I’m so excited about the new bike path from Cannes to Nice and soon to Villefranche. Tell me do you ride an electric bike? I just got one yesterday and am so impressed with the pedal assist. Certainly easier on the knees.

I do indeed! You still do 70% of the work and on the level it’s probably harder cos of the weight but up hill it’s a god send!

@@MeandMonAmi I know right, I thought it would do most of the work but no you still get a good work out from pedalling, I’ll have to get one when in Cannes, are you happy with yours? What make is it?

How would this area compare to Mougins (thinking for international residents aspect), and crime/security? Thank you
@MeandMonAmi
@MeandMonAmi 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t really see any great crime issues down here. Most of the crime I hear about is petty (ie pick pocketing on trains) with the occasional very high end villa raid in the summer (usually of people the burglars have tracked having seen them in very expensive jewellery etc around town..
