The most entertaining cookery show on KZbin by a country mile!!! A real person doing all the things that real people do in the kitchen. You're the cooking equivalent of "If" by Rudyard Kipling. "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster. And treat those two impostors just the same................... Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it. And-which is more-you’ll be a Man, my son!"

Right?! That came in clutch! I was so on the side of "No Jamie, leave it, make a new crust! You'll just have two pies!" Had no idea that pie was raw in the center

You did a great job showing people that it's possible to fix it on the fly. This is not my grandma's grasshopper pie. For her mint and green, she used copious quantities of Creme de Menthe, so it was a boozy dang dessert.

I am surprised you did not mention why this version of Grasshopper Pie has such a weird name. Maybe it’s because I am older than dirt, but the creme de menthe Grasshopper cocktail was popular in the 1950-60s though it is much older. Typical recipes for this are far easier to make and lighter too - basically a refrigerator mousse pie.

The way this guy massacres a BAKING recipe, (with which you NEVER mess and FOLLOW THE RECIPE LIKE ON A MOLECULAR LEVEL), but still make it work is just sheer brilliance 🤣🤣🤣. Excellent job !
@FaerieDust Жыл бұрын
He's hard proof that the "baking is an exact science" thing is a myth. I keep telling people it's not that big of a deal, but honestly just showing one of his videos proves my point better than any argument I can make 🤷
@toomanyopinions8353 Жыл бұрын
@FaerieDust my understanding is that some recipes are an exact science, but most other recipes you just need to know the basic chemistry and proportions of a dish. Those proportions and how the ingredients interact are something you learn over time and at that point, you can go rogue. It's not something people normally think of as chemistry, but it very much is chemistry. So basically, it's a science, but not usually an exact one.

3 hours to make something I can get in the store in 10 minutes?? How are you not slightly nuts by now. Ps, hope the place you move to has them! And glad you saw my comment about the stand mixer. When I saw you talking about the different texture between your pie and hers, I didn't want you to blame yourself or skills. You're doing the best you can with what you have!

It’s down from a chef’s perspective. While it may not make sense to the home baker, chefs will understand why.
@bahhumbug9824 Жыл бұрын
But are they writing this for other chefs or the home cook? A good cookbook should be patronizing because this could be a home baker's first attempt and things need to be specific af. A bad cookbook is like an advanced course where you have to be "qualified to learn" (such as not feeling the need to grease a pie pan or not), force you to hop around the book and not have pictures. @@cwren79

For following partial recipes, I'd stick a neon pink post-it right under the last step I'm supposed to complete. Works best on physical books, but it'll work on a laptop or tablet display as long as you're not zooming or flipping pages - for those, I'd open the ebook in a program that allows highlighting and block out the text I'm supposed to ignore. Also the "you NEED a stand mixer" people are obviously wrong. A few things are easier or safer to make with a stand mixer (mainly stuff involving beating molten sugar into a mixture, like torrone), and it is convenient to have a machine knead doughs for you, but most baking is just fine with a hand mixer. They're a much bigger step up in terms of convenience (manual whisk to electric) compared to hand mixer to stand mixer, imo.

Dude, why on earth did you make that awful pie? Great save, but that was wrong. I've made at least a dozen of these and that recipe was insane. Easiest way, make or buy graham crackers for crust, pistacheo pudding for filling, and garn however you like. Hope it tasted good , sure was entertaining; so funny!
