Antigua, Guatemala and the Earthquake Ruins of 1773 [Amazing Places 4K]

Antigua was the first capital of the Spanish colony Kingdom of Guatemala, founded in 1543. In 1773 huge earthquake destroyed the city, but its principal monuments are still preserved as ruins. Today Antigua is one of the main attractions of Guatemala and UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of its colonial architecture, historic buildings and the haunting ruins of beautiful churches and catedrals.

Hii, I am from Guatemala, and I love your channel, I was waiting for the day you had a video from here, I LOVE how you capture the amazing places on our planet. Hope one day you have the oportunity to go to Tikal. If someone eould like to know: Antigua Guatemala was the first city in the country, here it was funded Guatemala where it was firmed the independece letter, here is where spread a lot of cultures. Currently we have 22 languages.... filled with manners, rituals, traditions and cultures, even dished and foods! This is from the colonial period, this is a beautiful time, but if you want to be in awe from our beauty, watch out for mayan temples, like Tikal or El Mirador, Castle of San Felipe... or even the pintoresc Lake of Amatitlan. Hope you like the culture from the forever autumm country🇬🇹

Absolutely amazing! Those ruins were certainly built to last even thru a major earthquake and still standing today for all to see. Don't know about living so close to volcanoes though something I could not do thats for sure. Thanks Milosh for sharing!

You have some great footage in this video, interesting to see colonial Spanish architecture like this. It must have been a powerful earthquake to do that much damage. The partially repaired cathedral was an interesting reconstruction, shame it was damaged so long ago. Its a brave person who lives in the shadow of a volcano, I am spoilt in that OZ is on one techtonic plate with no volcanos at all and while we have had earthquakes from time to time, nothing like the ones near a volcano. Great work as usual. 😎👍
