I sang this in the New York all-state mixed chorus in 2007, and we would end up going really flat around halfway through. This piece is incredibly difficult to not only sing in tune, but also maintain that pure sound. Having that said, this has to be the best I've ever heard this piece performed. Amazing job!!! :)

This has always been one of those pieces that when I hear it performed well, it touches my soul. Wonderful performance. However, I wish that the tenor and bass voices where a little more present in this recording. It amazes me how in many professional performing ensembles, the lower voices don't record or carry as well as the upper voices. More conductors need to take a step back and spend more time listening for a balance from a distance. That is the best way to judge ensemble balance.

@werewolf15orlando Hah, thanks! I wish I knew more about the "genre" or "style" too--looking up the composer of this piece (Bruckner), it's from the Romantic era of classical music, and likely of religious. That said, some contemporary music may be good too. You might do well to subscribe to the Antioch Ensemble's channel and recordings, investigate the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and explore from there in other chamber vocal/choir ensembles. Happy listening and cheers from the U.S.!
@erwinwiesinger91015 жыл бұрын
It's kind of an anachronism. Composers were not ought to make clerical music from Mozart on, but Bruckner carried a very pious belief from the poor countryside into the already secular-ish cities*, combining that with the most sophisticated form of composing (as far as I can judge it). Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only other composer who combines the qualities of high-end composing with an irreplicable belief is J. S. Bach. * His collegues in Vienna even sent a concubine into his sleeping room once. But Bruckner was way to catholic: He died a virgin. Stories like that made him a name as "half a farmer-fool, half a god". He must have been a total alien for his environment.

Near perfect vocal performances, balance and blend in the choir is truly enviable! Having said that, for all it's technical accomplishments, I am disappointed that the conductor doesn't take more risks in shaping the phrases and varying tempos a little. Nit-picking though. Marvellous.
