Another brilliant restoration, everything is always "just right" and nothing is overdone so the piece loses its character and history. Very well done indeed. You also live in an extraordinarily beautiful part of the world.

I certainly don't mind the attempt to re-use and preserve, but as a restorer myself, I don't believe pieces like this are meant to look good with old patina, I believe the men and women who designed these pieces back in the day, built them to be serviceable, and pieces of wood are consumables in my opinion.

A very nice sympathetic restoration, and I love the colour, all you need to do now is sit back and wait for the grapes to grow !One handy trick on getting out screws/nails from wood is to apply a hot soldering iron or copper rod to the head of the screw, then, when it cools down, it comes out easily, I have also found that the MIG will weld cast iron without problem, I often use it to repair cast objects using the normal MIG wire. @horatiohornblower8685 жыл бұрын
Englishman French Why not braze it?
@453421abcdefg123455 жыл бұрын
@@horatiohornblower868 Because to braze it, (SIF bronze weld), you need a great deal of heat, and it is only when you can get the area around the fracture to red heat that the braze will run into the crack, there is also the problem of contamination from oil etc, any contaminate will give a very poor braze, it is practical if you have Oxy/Acetylene equipment, but not many people have now, so the MIG is an easy fix, it does not always work, depending on the type of cast iron, but with a broken component it is worth a try.

To all the young kids out there that might stumble across these videos and then quickly change to something different because it looks boring.... Well...I'm 46, and I wish, when my dad was alive and I was a kid, that I'd have listened to him and took him up on his multiple offers to watch and help him do stuff like this. I did not! and now I'm a dad, I can neither do any of this stuff, or show my kids because I never took up that offer. I regret that. So do yourself a favor, watch, learn and most importantly, if your dad or mum offers to teach you something like this, take them up on their offer. 40 years later you wont regret it!! :) Good job on the vids!
