Love this. On my 1950s childhood farm near Ithaca we had a similar but hand driven corn cracking machine along with a bigger hand driven corn shucking machine that removed the whole kernels from the dried cobs. My middle sister caught a finger in the gears of the corn shucker (roughly 3' outer ring gear with a manual rim&handle driving a 3" or so inner pinion gear exposed between the ring gear spokes, no shields or other protection of any sort: In those days the "dangerous" parts were considered to be inside the machine...) but luckily she was spinning it slowly and only lost a fingernail. Watching your video reminded me of how exciting life on the farm was to us kids back then, not to mention how lucky I was to be the youngest and learn from the older kids' mishaps.

I knew an old farmer (he was known as "Rip") who'd crack his corn to make mash with it. He said it was for the pigs to eat (but only after condensing his elixir so sweet!). Shine on, shine on harvest moon up in the sky. After drinking my harvest right here is where I'll lie!
