Too much ground speed. Drop the 14 back a gear. When the corn is balling up at the top of the gathering chains, and it cascading back down the clean corn elevator like that, you're pushing it too hard. That's also causing a lot of shelling loss when it's grinding in the head. Like seeing that the older equipment run. I picked a lot of ear corn in my younger days.

Just a comment on battery draining, I’ve had alternators with internal regulators put small drains on batteries. I think the cause may be in the diodes allowing current to flow back, with the price of alternators I just replaced them. I would check them by removing wires from alternator and see if it then drained after sitting a few days. Good luck with it.
@mikeblevins30 Жыл бұрын
usually if the diode is bad the gen light will be on all the time....the best way to track down a draw is unhook the positive batt cable, hook up an amp meter between the pos cable and the battery....see how much of a draw you have.....then you just start pulling fuses until the meter drops to 0...that will tell you exactly where the problem is
@mikeblevins30 Жыл бұрын
and the easiest way to test the alternator ...while engine is running....turn the lights on to make sure it has a load on it......stick a wrench to the back of it..if it sticks the alt is good

WELL, I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS POST. TO MUCH GROUND SPEED FOR THE UNIT. THE CORN SHOULD NOT BALL UP IN THE FEEDER, SHOULD NOT PILE UP ON THE HUSKING BED, SHOULD NOT PILE UP IN THE CLEAN GRAIN ELEVATOR. SPEED IS NOT EVERYTHING. YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE MACHINE TIME TO DO ITS JOB. TO START WITH WHEN THE MACHINE WAS NEW THE CORN WAS NOT THAT GOOD AS FAR AS BUSHELS TO THE ACRE. BY OVERLOADING THE MACHINE IS WHY THE UNIT IS SHELLING SO BAD. ALSO, THE UNIT IS NOCKING DOWN A LOT OF CORN IN FRONT OF THE SNAPPING ROLLERS ONTO THE GROUND. YOU CAN SEE THE EARS HITTING THE GROUND. ALSO, BY OVERLOADING THE MACHINE IS PROBABLY THE REASON THE GATHERING CHAIN JUMPED OFF THE SPROCKET. SPEED IS NOT EVERYTHING. THE MACHINE NEEDS TIME TO DO ITS JOB. NEXT IS THE WAY THAT YOU USED THE A FARMALL TO PULL THAT WAGON FULL OF CORN. REALLY NOT A BIG ENOUGH TRACTOR FOR THE JOB. ALSO, YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSON IS NOT SYNCRONIZED AND IS REALLY NOT MADE TO SHIFT ON THE GO LIKE YOU DID. YOU KEEP THAT UP THE WAY YOU DID ON THE VIDEO YOU'LL EITHER BUST A TOOTH ON A GEAR OR THE GEAR COMPLETELY. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A BIT OF ADVICE FROM AN OLD TIMER, SLOW DOWN AND SMELL THE ROSES. I HAVE WORKED WITH THIS OLDER EQUIPMENT FOR OVER 40 YEARS. THE OLD SAYINGS, I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS IS SLOW AND SAFE MAKES SINSE. FASTER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER. IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE. IN OTHER WORDS, DON'T EXPECT TO GET IT DONE IN ONE DAY. GLAD TO SEE THAT YOU HAVE THE INTREST IN DOING IT THE OLD WAY. KEEP UP THE HERITAGE YOUNG MAN

Wow 4 rows and 1/3 full. that is good yield for the corn. have you ever thought about a combine to harvest the corn? or a 4 row picker? ( combine removes the corn from the cob, so that might not be so good for the feed ) it must take a lot of time to harvest with the 2 row picker. great job. keep it up!
@knappfarms Жыл бұрын
We only do 20-30 acres a year of ear corn so it’s not too bad but I really want a uni harvester with a 4 row head on it but they can get pricey

Your maintenance program sucks. I also pick with a new idea two row wide. It looks like new even though the last one made was back in 1976. I have a Farmall 300 very well kept and a agco allis well kept. There is no pride in making payments but you can do a better job in your up keep.

The feeder house has husk and stalk in it because it’s so dry it the it floats above the heavier corn that is going up into the husking beds and that corn at the end of the husking bed will be there at 1 mph vs 100 mph it’s because the rollers are slightly out of adjustment but we leave it so it won’t jam and we don’t mind grinding a little husk in our feed
