Now this is one of many examples as to why I love mechanical pocket watches and clocks because the craftsmanship that went into them is far more amazing to me that how modern stuff is made

Humanity should stop obsessing over their praised digital bullshit and they should look back at properly made things like this pocket watch. It's a TRUE work of art.

Creating, setting, and adjusting a piece like this is like writing software code today. Truly amazing minds back in the day.💯

Nowadays these types of musical pocket watches and striking musical clocks are electronically imitated by some quartz clocks because they contains electronically programmed circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker. But nothing can beat the real chiming and music-box moments as in these types of clocks and watches.

I love how you are just like “ oh yeah and it just happens to have the most complex fiddly and difficult to make function of any pocket watch” as like a random side thing

The whole song disk is cool, but I think it'd be awesome just to have a pocket watch that plays those crystal clear bell tones at 1:58 every hour.

Agree but back then, the musical movement was always hidden away. Most antique "skeleton" watches have been modified to show off the wonderful movement but they are not original.

It might be hard to do, but could another song disk be mounted, for another musical piece? Superb craftsmanship!
@troyduncan19696 ай бұрын
This was made in the days when things were proprietary - no interchangeable parts. It is possible but would require an exceptionally skilled watchmaker who also has mechanical music skills.

You do not understand the mechanics. In order for one to change a disc, most of the watch would need to be disassembled so that is not a workable engineering design.@@j.lietka9406

The concept of true changing disc based music boxes has been around a long time so a person could play many songs - early form of the phonograph. Like this onekzbin.info/www/bejne/eXuth4SuaNyZo5o @@j.lietka9406

It's not as much about it being out of tune. It's that the speed seems like it could be 25% too fast. There's a melody in there somewhere, but all the notes are tumbling out like a closet full of pots and pans.

You restored 100% everything? Also lubed where lubbing is needed as well?
@troyduncan19695 жыл бұрын
Correct. That is why this watch works perfectly and keeps excellent time. The repeat function and music starts a few minutes late and that is acceptable for a watch of this age.
