Wow Thanks Don for the walk along with you, Was almost like being there! Really nice collection of vintage radios. Would love to go to one. At the end that looked like boards with radio components on them. Thought about doing something like that as a teaching point. Thanks Don.

Awesome video! Discovered your channel a week ago with the restoration of the Chanticleer. I have a question about the flea market at the Conference.... Is everything sold in auction format, or can one purchase at the flea market directly? Thanks for the video. Loved the 20s era especially, and I'll try to get to Valdese this summer. -CJ Carpenter
@RestoreOldRadios7 жыл бұрын
+CJ Carpenter Thank you for watching the Chanticleer project. It's one of my favorite radios in my collection, not only for the cabinet design, but the effort it took to bring it back to a better state. The flea market (direct purchase) started on Friday at 8 am and typically winds down by noon as folks move items to a auction setting. The flea market is open the following Saturday morning too until mid morning before folks leave out for home. The event is every March. It's a blast to attend. When I lived in Charlotte, I attended every year with the exception of a few. Best, Don

Don, Well.... did you have a weak moment and buy something? There's a pretty nice selection there. Something for everyone. Regards, Tom
@RestoreOldRadios7 жыл бұрын
+THOMMGB Well, I did break down and buy a wooden topless Silvertone from ~1930. I was hoping to be paid to take it home, but gave $10 for it, which seemed fair. Hope to show it off in a future video. It was fun, but couldn't stay long due a personal issue. I sure hope to attend next year and spend more time enjoying the meet. Best, Don

@RestoreOldRadios7 жыл бұрын
+iamrichrocker Hi Rich - the pricing overall was fair; however, there are always things priced higher than I'm willing to pay. Many great items and not enough time to take it all in. Hope all is well with you. Best, Don

There were some real interesting things for sale at that swap meet. I would have been checking the price tags on those wall mount teaching radios and that huge spark coil if I had been there.
@RestoreOldRadios7 жыл бұрын
+50sTransistorRadios Those teaching radios were not for sale, or least that's what I was told by the gentleman parked next to him as the owner had stepped away and time didn't allow me to stop back by. They caught my eye too. I missed the spark coil. LOL It was a great show, but I only had a few hours to enjoy before traveling back home. Best, Don

A nice sale, the Russian VEF shown at the 51 second mark I have been looking for, for a long time.
@RestoreOldRadios7 жыл бұрын
+zachtownsend1 I had to go back to 51 seconds and see the radio you noted. Is it a rare find? Best, Don
@zachtownsend17 жыл бұрын
It's not a rare find in Russia I imagine, many were made. However, in the U.S. I would say so. It dates from the end of WW 2 till 1950. Its name is VEF Super M557. The one in the video has the wrong grill cloth and has been repainted. Also, like many Russian sets it has a variable transformer, so a good chance it may work on U.S. a.c., but I would never let it run unattended. Thanks Zach
