What a great show very interesting to see how an old demagnetizer worked. I've used industrial ones but they don't have the fun of exposed wires.

Another great video. Seeing how to deal with stuck parts is very helpful. Amazing how some old tools have survived the passage of time. That stuck screw would have been a good test for vampliers.

The demagnetiser is great, especially as it's so old. It can be so useful to have screwdrivers that are magnetic but occasionally it can be a pain. To be able to change so easily is fantastic. Wishing you all the very best for 2024.

Thanks to both you John, and to Dan for an excellent and instructive first video of the new year ! Excellent work on the RPM indicator, it's always a concern when you know something is not easily replaceable, but you did Dan proud, must have been hard not to polish up that brass and remove the pitts though ! I wouldn't have believed that the (de)magnetiser would have worked so well, If you'd put this out on 1st April nobody would have believed you !

What wonderful items to start off 2024 with. I love the way they constructed tools back then; rosewood and brass for a magnetizer/demagnetizer! No wonder they lasted so long. Your enthusiasm for how they worked always makes your shows. Thanks for 17 minutes of fun. Happy New Year John.

Happy New Years. There are many magnetizer/demagnetizers on the market. To demagnetize, put the tool inside the magnetizer hole and hold the on button - then slowly remove object. To magnetize, hold the tool inside the magnetizer hole and quick press and release the on button. Amazon has many choices of magnetizer/demagnetizers. I bought one from Flinn Scientific which is more expensive but seems better built. The Flinn unit has two holes but works the same. Whatever your buy - they should be safer without exposed 100 VAC terminals.

Great Video 👍This was a cool interesting show and tell. That screw looked like it was going to be trouble in that vintage RPM indicator. I am glad you got it out and replaced it so we could see how that cool vintage tool works, Awesome Job! 👍. That vintage Demagnetizer was also cool to see . Great information and demonstration on how it works. Great to see vintage tools that were made over a hundred years ago still works like it did when it was made then. Again thanks for showing us these vintage tools and how they were meant to be used. This was a Fantastic Cool video for the New Year ! 👍 Great to see Old Glory 🇺🇸 flying in the breeze with that Beautiful night sky 🌌. I have had success with putting a screwdriver bit in a drill press and turning the chuck and screwdriver by hand while pressing down with the spindle. The peen can be drilled with the center drill until it is flush with the surface. That should remove all the metal that had been upset.

If you take a new roll of #12solid THHN wire and hook each end to a switched test cord plugged into 120 volts not only will it magnetize your screw driver it will suck it out of your hand when you hit the switch.
