If I include brass drifts I have about 250 punches between the at work toolbox, home toolbox, and my firearm tool kit. You can never have too many! Hammers? About 75. Merry Christmas, John!

I am very glad you recovered so quickly. Don’t take good health for granted. You wear the big red S, but there are illnesses that can take you down. With all of those punches, I did not see the Hawaiian Punch! Or the fruit punch. Do the ball tips open the spring pin ends and make it bind in the hole? Merry Christmas! Happy New Tool!

Very few punches, I have 7 that I know of, one is the first Metal Lathe Project I ever did in Junior High, a Center Punch that I got an "A" on. I later used that Punch when I was in the Structural Steel Business, after smacking it about a 100,000x I decided to retire it before I ruined it. Today it sits right up front in my tool rack on the wall and I see it every time I'm down in the shop.

So glad you're feeling better. Keep up the resting until 100%. I have a good sized pile of punches. My step father and his father were tool makers at Pexto. I was fortunate to have a whole mess of tools handed down. Some haven't even been completed. I just love digging through the boxes to see what I can find!

Glad you're back. 67 punches. I have slowly been adding Starrett sets as time goes one - the sets cost more but are higher quality. The center punches are much harder than my 70s Craftsman punches - the Starretts make a better divot. Merry Christmas

I must have a couple hundred punches at least. Between leatherwork, metalwork, bladework, woodwork, mechanic work (shadetree) tinkering and hobbyist machine work, yeah, I accumulated a lot in the last 30 years or so. When I finished out bronze art professionally there was no telling what odd shape we'd need so we bought letter punches by the block and would grind them to whatever shape we needed. There's still a lot of those floating around in my shop as well as a lot of the ones you showed.

Another one of those things I don't know how many I have. I do know I have three spring center punches. Not long ago I got a pack of three nails sets, new old stock and I put them in the drawer in the package and I doubt I will remove them. I have several a foot long or longer. I have an old file cabinet where I store extra files, chisels as well as punches. If I had to guess 75 or more.

Scoutcrafter, so glad you're on the mend. I have more punches than screwdrivers!!! I came from working on rail cranes and was once complimented by a car mechanic on having more, 'tools for hitting things' than he'd ever seen...... I was so proud. I. Have dressed so many punches and chisels for people over the years as the safety aspect was drilled into me. My favourite item on you video tonight was that beautiful Wizard punch. Keep getting better my friend and have a fantastic Christmas 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧✌️

Punches are fun. I have a few: a roll set with about a dozen sizes, a few nail sets, a big steel drift, a few steel metal punches and two auto-punches. One is an antique that was in my grandfather’s toolbox, and a lightweight modern one that we all carried in the pocket of our fire jacket on my last department: we used them as glass breakers.

Back in the 1970's when OSHA became a law, some of the old mechanics that I worked with absolutely refused to grind down the mushroomed heads on their punches and chisels. They were just being contrary and had the attitude that nobody was going to tell them anything. Several of them had pieces break off but there were no serious injuries. Eventually they all ground down the heads when they thought nobody was listening to them whine about being abused by OSHA trying to protect them from themselves. I am sure that your sister will appreciate the new washing machine. Thanks for the video. Have a Merry Christmas

Good to see you on the mend Scout! I think there is a theory of relativity as to the correct ratio of punches/chisels to screwdrivers. Without counting, I think I have well over 100 punches/chisels as compared to over 200 for screwdrivers, so I think I'm probably at a good number there. 😂 A friend gave me a 5 gal. bucket about half full of old punches/chisels/files. I'll be going through that over the holidays to see what kind of treasures might be in there to clean up and add to the collection. Great video and Merry Christmas Scout!

On the recycled file punches, if you can manage to heat up the struck end with a torch till it’s taken on a deep blue tone, and then put the whole thing in hot sand to cool slowly, it will likely soften it up decently for regular punch tasks. However, it might be better to temper the whole thing back, as a fully hardened file is about as brittle as can be. I agree that it’s probably best to use them as detail picks or for woodworking.

Good to see you back in decent health sir. Punches, I have 50+ individual punches from garage sales, flea markets, and auctions where you bid and get a pail full of “STUFF”, but I also have numerous sets of punch sets in boxes, tool rolls, and canisters. I have made punches from round files and being somewhat careful not to possibly shatter the head end from hitting with a hammer I started using shrink wrap on the ends of those punches, I just cut a piece as close to the diameter I need about 1” long, install about 2/3rds of its length, shrink it, cut off the excess flush to the top, seems to work well for me. Thanks for the video, Merry Christmas young man.

I have 3 or 4 nail punches laying around, but I use them usually as pokey things. I probably have 30 concrete chisels (right word?). 15 pointy and 15 flat face. I got them at the flea market cheap and cleaned and painted them because I am that kind of maniac. Glad you are feeling better. Merry Christmas! Thank you for the oil lesson. Great to see you back John, I don't like to think of anyone being ill over Christmas and of course we miss your regular content ! Interesting overview on the punches, I've not come across those roll pin punches before. I started with 3 Stanley punches a flat and a hollow nail punch and a centre punch, and have added a few speciality punches over the years, I've also inherited and saved many more, but only around 30 or so I guess. They're a fun quick little restoration project that you can often do with hand tools only whilst sitting on a bench on a sunny evening ! Nice washboard, I thought you were going to give us a tune ! 😉 A very Merry Christmas to you and yours this festive season, and many thanks for all your great content this year, I look forward to every Mon/Wed/Friday evening !

How great is it to be out of the MTA! 😂👍. The knuckleheads that ran my depot were horrible. 😃👍. Thanks!

@@ScoutCrafter I was a light maintainer or in the real world an electrician. I left the MTA after 7 years I went to the City University at Queens College. Best decision I ever made

The Christmas break is my time to tidy up my workshop. Every year I swear the place shrinks, less and less space to put everything. 😅 The biggest problem is finding space for multiple tools. Having a spare is fine. A spare of a spare is OK.. but when you get to 30 or 40 spares.. well you know. 😂

Spares are fine for small stuff but when you have spare machines it’s a big problem! 🫣😂👍
