I’m a retired American Airlines pilot and my base was LGA. When landing I would use your local Home Depot as a reference point for runway alignment, the store is easily spotted from the air because of the orange paint. 😆. I really enjoy your channel, good stuff

Hi John, Have been busy so haven’t commented for while. Nice Tommy Bar. In college we had to heat treat metals. Then we had to cut off a piece and embed it in a plastic holder. We would polish and look at the grain structure under a microscope. Nice steel color chart for gaging temperature. Here in Virginia, we are close to a Naval Air Base. They do practice maneuvers in fighter jets. Very exciting to see them fly over. On one road that runs parallel to an airfield where they practice land and go runs. They touch down then take off again. Very cool. Nice new song at the end. Best Regards, John

The inkzalls are great! HF makes a version of their own but the inkzall ink dries quicker. On some plastics HF's markers will smear if you are not careful. But the Harbor Freight ones will last days without the cap and keep on working! Both are great markers!

I just saw a set like that at a local flea market I had never been to before! The place was a wonderful old factory loaded to the gills with so much stuff you could hardly fit between the aisles. Almost nothing had a price tag, yet unfortunately they weren't prepared to haggle and wanted way too much money for items that were either damaged and/or not very old. There was some very cool stuff there, but I couldn't help thinking it was no wonder why it was so packed. Oh well, it sure was fun digging around! I'll go back, lol.

John, the video of the planes brought back memories from my younger days. My father was a private pilot and one of his favorite things to do was go to the Buffalo airport to watch them taking off and landing. I never saw the fun in it. I did enjoy flying with him , especially seeing our house from the air. I do miss seeing the the C 130's that used to fly over my house that were stationed at the Niagara Falls air base. I have been using the Milwaukee markers for a few years, don't trust that it will write very well on wet surfaces though. We use sharpies at work almost exclusively. I was cleaning up my shop awhile back and found a bag of old pens, pencils and a few sharpies that were my grandparents from their nursery business from back in the late 70's - believe it or not a couple of the Sharpies still worked- kinda !

Thanks John, glad to see the store have turned things around a bit, there sure are some nice Christmas lights/decorations around these days, I picked up some discounted pseudo-neon lights in various Christmas motifs a few years back and hang them from the kids swing frame that I built at the bottom of the garden 20+ years ago ! Those markers look good, nice that they stay a true black. that Tommy-bar looks just the part in that set, reminds me I need to stock up on some piano wire, so many uses on the workshop !

Brings back memories. Flew into LGA a few times. Speed was likely 125 knots or more until over the threshold. The still with Air France is at St. Martin, SXM. That was a nice layover, photo taken at the beach bar that offered a great view. I took a cockpit video of my approach and landing there many years ago, waiting for statute of limitations to run out before I post it to KZbin. The Minion is great.

Brian- When training as a pilot I always wanted to land at LGA just for the fun of it but it was a $75 landing fee back then and it was a real tight schedule to squeeze in there. Never got to do it. 🫣😂👍

It's about the same at $16.40 per thousand pounds of gross weight, but if you land between 8am-9pm, it's an additional $100. And if you stop at the general aviation terminal, they have additional fees.

I live about 5 miles from the local airport. Even that distance sometimes they sound like they are right on top of the house. The airport is not only passenger airlines but the home of FedEx and the National Guard. Besides the airport I also live about a mile from a small railroad switch yard. Sometimes it can get really busy. As for the Inkzall....for me they were so-so. Dry surface were okay. Dusty surface...great for pushing the dust into a pile as the dust clogged the tip. Wet surface...not a chance.

Where I used to live in the uk we had similar airport in the city - most fun was on stormy windy days , the planes are like 100ft up in the air being buffeted about and the pilots operating the flaps and altering engine power - something to be seen and heard for sure

We are in the flight path for Kalamazoo Airport when they are coming in from the northeast. They are flying lots higher than over the Home Depot parking lot though. The one that flies the lowest and loudest is the Hospital helicopters. They must be going to Grand Rapids. That marker looks like a nice one for the shop. I have been using Sharpies for decades. The tips wear out long before they run dry. Paint pens are okay if you use them a bunch. Otherwise you have to keep priming them before they will mark. Product action used them to mark parts after sorting them. I use to carry boxes of them in the car trunk to hand out at the sorting locations. Use to like the driving part of the job. That was the only part I liked.

I really enjoyed this episode, John. I have a very nice Home Depot near my house. I complimented the guy in the paint department one time on how friendly the staff were. He said the store policy was to greet customers when they passed within 10 ft. It’s true! Also, I have been really wanting those Milwaukee pry bars for a year or more. Every time I go to the store I pick them up, salivate, and check to see where they are made. To date, all the labels say China, so they have remained on the rack. Someday they will be made in Taiwan or America and they will come home with me. Not that I need them, but they look so cool!

John I totally agree with you that Home Depot is the dirtiest unorganized one I’ve ever been in. I only went there when it was absolutely necessary. Also the one in Flushing is just as bad. Otherwise I would go to the one in Elmont or Westbury.
@ScoutCrafter
@ScoutCrafter Ай бұрын
Frank- You’re so right- I believe the first Home Depot in New York was in Hempstead, it was a nice store and they always had everything in stock. I believe the flushing store is one of the most if not the most successful Home Depot in the United States sales wise. The college point store has gone through many different managers and configurations. I’ve seen the store look great and I’ve seen the store look horrible. It all depends on who’s running it. Lowes always had a much more organized and clean store. 😃👍

I happen to have a set of Greenfield Little Giant taps and dies that belonged to my grandfather. (I am 71). I always thought that it was a quality set because I have used it (as needed) and never had an issue. From your experience, is Greenfield a quality tap and die manufacturer? Thanks.
@ScoutCrafter
@ScoutCrafter Ай бұрын
Tony- back in the day Greenfield Massachusetts was the Mecca for tap and die production. All the best manufacturers would reside there and compete against each other other. It was a glorious time of American manufacturing never to be seen again. 😃👍🇺🇸

I bought that on Amazon years ago and I have three different sizes. The larger ones don’t look realistic but more cartoonish. Funny thing is when I first started using the finger it freaked out a few people who thought it was creepy! 😂👍

Oh Lord, the planes landing at BWI airport fly right behind my house. At night you can just see the lights spread out along the sky from the planes coming in for a landing. Being outside in the summer, they do make it hard to hold a conversation.

What is your favorite folding utility knife mine is the Milwaukee fastback
@ScoutCrafter
@ScoutCrafter Ай бұрын
Personally, I prefer prefer a cast-iron non-retractable vintage utility knife for feel and use, I use a Milwaukee fastback all the time for opening packages and the DeWalt utility knife for extended Work. as a tool lover, it’s almost impossible to own just one utility knife. They are one of the greatest additions to any shop. 😃👍

Music wire. I was wondering what that was called. I tried making a watch holder with a wooden base with that wire but had poor results. It is super hard to bend! You don't have a trick for that do you? I know there is a tool to bend it but the one I am looking at is always sold out.
@ScoutCrafter

Yes! Bending music wire is tricky! If you try by hand it fights you every step of the way. You get good results with a wire bending jig. 😃👍
