Michael, we had those cast iron pots on the farm when I was young a very long time ago. That lip around the bottom is very cleaver because you remove the middle bit in the stove ring and the direct heat from the fire is trapped under the pot for browning meat fast and hard. Then you close ring for simmering on a cushion of air that doesn't burn the base. If it gets too hot, you slide a knife under and you get a slow simmer. That ten Euro buy was much more of a bargain than you realise!
@katharinatrub13383 ай бұрын
Oh, I love discovering all these lovely tips!. Interesting to read about this particularity of the pan. I have a wood stove with rings and am excited for the knife trick to try this winter!

🇨🇦❤️Hi Michael! Thank you for taking us along with you. That was so kind of Billy to give you that gold chain. I agree that Andrew is doing a great job filming. Your enthusiasm is wonderful to watch and I’m delighted that I get to see you again tomorrow. Have a good snooze! 😴💤 I just watched another YT content provider from Vancouver that I subscribe to, (Downielive), and he commented on his editors latest video that he hired this fellow, Matt Mort, to do his editing and help him with his work/life balance to avoid burnout, and it saves him 18-20 hours a week. Michael Downie posts one approximately 1/2 hour video each week, so it sounds as if editing a video every day will leave you with little or no spare time. I’m hoping that you don’t become exhausted, so my vote is that you take care of your health first and if we have to wait a bit for the videos, I’m fine with that.

Michael, I live in the mountains of Washington state up by the Canadian border. We are very remote and have always had oil lamps ready to use for power outages. We lose power in the winter due to snow storm and we get wind storms in the spring. Years ago we had a horribly destructive wind storm and we were without power for a week. Thankfully we had oil lamps and a generator. We ran the generator for a few hours a day to be able to have hot water for dishes and bathing and to keep the fridge and freezer cold so our food didn't go bad. I use an antique oil lamp on my fireplace mantle as decoration, but it does still work!

I have watched Michael's videos since day one - through the ups, the downs, the disappearances....I'm glad he's back. I suspect doing these daily videos is his desire for redemption in the eyes of his subscribers and patreons. These, in a sense, are his penance and his recognition that things were slipping away. Good for him. Everyone loves a prodigal son.

Summer is in Kansas City. The heat index is a humid 112 degrees (F) today. We’d call the cooking pot a Dutch oven. They could be put in the hot coals to bake things or make stews over fire. The original ones you could put coals on top of the lid for more even cooking.

Hi Michael! In the USA we call those cast iron pots “Dutch ovens” and we use them to cook when camping. You put coals below and on top of them to cook your meal (the number of coals vary depending on what you’re cooking). They are really great for baking your own artisanal bread (line with parchment paper). Talk to Michael Potts!
@milmom42813 жыл бұрын
