That Jensen is reeeeeally sweet. It looked well balanced, too. I think you should get Mrs. Tubalcain to share your passion by replacing that flimsy new-fangled motor on her sewing machine or the Cuisinart with one of those babies.

My Jenson steam engine and guns is what i miss the most from a house fire when i was 16 years old. (Was not from the engine) I would play with that engine for hours. I loved the smell of the fuel pellets.

Hi mrpeete, The flickering light bring us back in time when in the country side was first connected to the power grid, kind of nostalgic. A lot of toys where made for kids but meant for grown ups, steam engines, electric trains, model airplanes, boobs etc,etc... Thanks for showing. Pierre

There are still kids out there that love this type of thing. Many don't get any exposure to this type of thing. I would have worn one of these engines out as a kid if I could have afforded one. I started to build a double acting twin cylinder marine engine but got distracted and haven't finished it.

I have the same Jensen engine. It spent 15 years in a collapsed barn after the previous owner's children mangled most of the boiler. It took me about 4 minutes to get the engine running after those 15 years. I've removed the engine platform off the main display base by drilling out the rivets, and run it off of either a nebulizer pump which puts out a steady 14 psi, or my air-brush pump which puts out a steady 28 psi. The engine runs smoothly enough even after that 15 year stint in the collapsed barn that the average pair of human lungs can keep it running, though not very fast at all .. I am amused that you've mentioned the film It's a Wonderful Life because for one thing, I grew up not far from New Bedford Mass, and for another, I've been thinking you sound a lot like Jimmy Stewert. I have enjoyed your videos as much for the content as for listening to you talk :P

Takes me back to my childhood, we as youngsters had a Mamod stationary engine with the oscillating cylinder (donkey engine as we called it) and then later a Meccano engine. The Meccano engine was great because we could build something and drive it round, was also fitted with reverse. This was possible as the engines used solid fuel, we later fired them with metholated spirits. To speed up heat time we would boil the kettle and fill from that. Cheers from John.

The higher pitches are the first to go when your hearing starts to fail. If Tubalcain was in any doubt whether or not we could hear that whistle, he should get his hearing checked.

Was watching your ebay ad video and had to come here to see the engine run.Glad to see the Grandson take an interest in such things. My kids have no interest, but I have another Grandson due in Aug.,so I'm gonna try to pass my knowledge. Can you tell me more about the Thresherman Convention?I'm in IL near St. Louis since 1976,but when I was his age,I grew up in Bowling Green,OH(Home of Tractor Pull Nat's),and My grandpa and I would restore old Tractors, and take them to Archbold and other auctions. He took me to a Thresherman Conv.up there somewhere, and I fell in love with the massive machinery!45 yrs later, and I still have my 'lil polka-dotted "Engineer" cap packed away somewhere, lol.I'm a packrat, but soon I'm gonna hafta be like you and start selling some of my old tooling on eBay......6 barns/buildings is enuff!!Once I figure out how,lol........I'm a pro at "buying",but never sold there.

Thanks for watching. This is the show I go to-they have a website. central states threshermans reunion. I don't have 6 barns full, but I have too much stuff.

I was given a Jensen at age 10 in about 1960, similar to this video, but alcohol fired. I converted it to propane a long time ago. It had to figure in my subsequent long career developing products for all manner of engines from car, truck, locomotive, marine, stationary, and to nuclear and other turbines. I think my father was smart enough to know what he was doing by giving me that engine, as by that age of 10, if an engine was running I had to go see it.

Just an observation (and I realize this was more than a year ago!) but.... On the Weeden boiler, is there a chance the boiler was designed for a market where 220V was the normal household power? That was so weak it looked like a 220V device running on 120V. I had a tea kettle purchased in China where everything is 220V. It will boil in about 2 minutes on 220V. But, on 120V it will slowly boil after about 10 minutes. The Jensen powerplant sure works well!

I will show this to my nephew to see what kind of reaction I get. I once tried to explain to him about a huge locomotive that I have a picture of and he looked dumbfounded by it. I told him that it probably weighed over 100 tons and could pull thousands of tons of load plus carriages and unloaded it could possibly reach 100Mph using just fire and water. I don't think he believed a word of it !

You can make belts that can be spliced in place using heat without disassembling. The cord used is round Urethane cord IIRC.

I like this. I think I shall email you some photos of mine (real complicated) I made around 1959 or 60 all machined on a 9A S Bend 'i still have'. By the way the city of New Bedford's claim to fame is the "Waling City" and I'm pretty sure were the engine was made now is a fish plant or something (20min from here) sam
