Seven years have passed and I'll bet Grandpa Pete222 remembers these times with his grandson. Memories are a treasure. Great video Mr. Pete...

This reminds me of the wonderful memories I had with both of my grandfathers. One was a carpenter/fire chief, and the other was a machinist like you. Both took the time to impart values, skills, as well as a love of life and family. This kind of time is precious, and your grandson will look back on these times with great joy long after you are gone. Good work Mr. Pete.

I stumbled upon this video by accident. I have 3 engines, 2 Jensens and a Wilesco. My grandson just bought an engine on EBay and we were running it last night. Great fun!

I think of all your videos, which I've learned a lot from, the steam engine videos are my favorite. And it makes me smile to see your grandson taking part. I can't tell you how many things I learned from my Grandfathers and I wish they were still around to teach me more.

Just a thought, Sounds to me like you were getting a squeek. The engine would most likely run better if you use steam oil to lube the parts that hit the steam like the piston and valves. Steam oil doesn't wash off to as easy so it keeps lubricating as the steam and water are moving through the engine. Nice video, I enjoyed watching it

When your grandson, Jordan, appears in your videos, the sound of your voice changes...It's the sound of a grandfather loving his grandson. Great job as always. It's difficult to put into words how much I enjoy - and have learned from - your videos. Best wishes to you and Jordan! Roy

Absolutely wonderful guys! So glad you included Jordon on this one! I too have the exact same model of the Wilesco! I seem to recall having a whistle though, maybe not. My box is the same, though more beat up. I seem to recall paying 40-50 for mine about 30 years ago in an antique shop. Dads old Weeden is cooler though! Thanks for the show guys!

Thank you for the great video. I had a similar Wilesco steam engine when I was a boy. The painting on the box (at 7:56) made me smile because the machinist there fascinated me in my childhood. The Wilescos were heated with a solid fuel called "Esbit" also called "Trockenspiritus" (dry spirit). But it looked like the fuel from Mamod (only the tablets were smaller). Esbit was mainly used for camping and meals ready to eat in the army. It was not specially made for model engines.

I think he's about old enough by now to go ahead a build one for himself. With your guidance of course. You'll spark a fire in him that won't go out and what a wonderful learning opportunity. One of your little wobblers would make a great project to start.

My Dad gave me a Mamod steam engine (very similar to the Wilesco) when I was about 8 years old. I still have it in running condition. I guess it had an influence. These days I'm making my own engines out in the garage.

I wish I had tools and supplies to build these. The steam engine is my favorite engine of all and I'm currently working on my lego wobbled steam engine. Surprisingly it has less leakage than normal.

I am used to these being chemically powered. So this has a heating element powered by AC? That was a really high pitched whistle. No governor on this?
@seven97665 жыл бұрын
nah, no governors on engines of this size. Would be too complex/expensive to implement.

I’ve never seen a D5 with no whistle and steam pipe running straight to the piston diagonally. On my unit it curves over the side of the boiler and runs down till it’s level with the piston and then runs over to the piston. Mine is also from the 60’s and the one you have is from the 70’s or a little later. Still must be old because no sight window. Must have been during a period when they wanted the D5 to truly be their budget model considering they ditched the whistle.

My grandfather passed and gave me his mamod E2 from the 60's that we used to run together when I was Jordan's age or a bit younger and I'm currently in the middle of cleaning and polishing the brass and I'll have to re-solder one of the valves also. And also my mechanics teacher at high school is lending me his toy generator for steam engines but I'll have to fix it due to it seizing.

i used to play around with these little engines all the time i still occasionally i have a wilesco D14 and a wilesco D22 the D14 got out of control and popped the screw out of the cylinder i have to fix that but is is a good engine i have a problem tho they stopped selling fuel at my hobby shop so i can make them run unless i use a fire lighter

I finally decided to get my Merkur steam engine out. I got it when i was maybe 8 or 9. The piston got stuck. I managed to repair it. Now after 6 or 7 years it's finally up and running again. I remember playing with it a lot. They still sell them. www.merkurtoys.cz/en/products/steam-engine

This is a Jensen 70 made in the mid to late 50s. You want to see more toy steam engines check out my KZbin channel. Received my first toy steam engine around 1964. If you want to get the site glass and correct smoke stack Jensen has them. I have a Jensen 70 that is almost mint on my channel. Your Wilesco is a D4 made in the 60s or very early 70s. As far as oil for the cylinder it is best to use steam oil as the water and steam does not was the oil out near as quick.
@MCRIPPPerutube11 жыл бұрын
i have one of those wilesco ones just like that. it has a whistle on it tho. i dont have the smoke stack or the tool for removing the tray. i have not run it on fuel, but have put some compressed air into it. check out my video of my home made "steam" model engine on my channel.
