So I am Antithrombin III deficient and it is hereditary and I am on wafarin. I was only diagnosed after second severe stroke. Didn't help that my real dad didn't play a role in my life as it is a disorder on his side of the family which I later found out. I thankful to the neurologist whom discovered my disorder but I feel I need to blame the first neurologist I was with as the diagnosis could've prevented my second stroke. Also, the second neurologist said it wasn't a common thing based on my ethnicity. I don't know, maybe you can shed some light on this?

My 6 week old son has a blood clot in the superior vena cava due to a central catheter, and is on Heparin. He is too young to do a true blood work up, but they believe he’s baseline AT3 level looks good, however when he is on continuous Heparin, he has to have injections of AT3 every couple of days as the Heparin becomes sub therapeutic when the AT3 is low. Is it typical to expect that continuous Heparin drip will cause the the AT3 level to drop?
@MedicosisPerfectionalis5 жыл бұрын
Was he ever diagnosed with antithrombin III deficiency?
@pejpm5 жыл бұрын
Medicosis Perfectionalis No, not so far. He is 6 weeks old and was 8 weeks premature. They say base AT3 looked good, but that it’s too early to do full blood work up to evaluate AT3 levels and that 3 months will give us a better idea of where he truly is. There was nothing flagged in genetic testing. He developed the original clot around a broviac central line which had been placed for surgery after he suffered in intestinal perforation, which was taken out and replaced with a PICC which terminated in his innonimate vein. The clot in the SVC and partly in the innonimate started to improve, but he was taken off Heparin for 48hrs for stoma reversal surgery, and the innomimate clot almost immediately became occlusive, so they suspect there could be some clotting disorder at play. Even though foreign objects can provoke clots, they say it’s unusual for it to happen so quickly. He has been in the therapeutic range (.3-.7) on Heparin for several weeks, and they’ve had to ‘top up’ his AT3 every 2-3 days so far. The PICC has been removed and they’re hoping to get through the rest of his care using PIV and switching to lovonox. They say that needing to add AT3 every few days is normal when a baby is on continuous Heparin. They aren’t saying he definitely doesn’t have an AT3 deficiency, but that requiring additional AT3 while on Heparin is expected.

@MedicosisPerfectionalis4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean?
@nargiznargiz49074 жыл бұрын
Hii...you said because of warfarin use if you wont overlap it with heparin you can get clots because of factor C and S deficiency in first days...on your skin and even in genitalia....
