First a quick rules clarification and then my comments. During the end game scoring, Anthony should only have received 3 points for his refinery achievement tile. Frances had it right that it's 1 point for each occupied oil rig/derrick spot + 1 for a max total of 5 points. As for your review, I totally agree this is an awesome game. Given it's weight and play time, it's a great option for my casual gaming group. The two-part engine building mechanic of playing a worker of the main board and then activating like-colored cards in your personal tableau has been a little tricky for some new players to grasp, but after a full play through they usually pick it up. Otherwise, it fits solidly into the light-to-mid weight Euro category. I disagree slightly on your take on replayability. I find the different nations to add a quite a bit of variability to each game. Not only do they dictate starting resources but they also determine the needed resources to advance on the United Nations track and also what type of engine you need to build in the game. The path to building your engine is totally up to you, so it still feels like a sandbox in that way, but you can't totally ignore your nation card if you hope to win. For such an accessible game, it really scratches the worker placement/engine building itch. I will always play this game if given the opportunity.

The original Manhattan Project has always been one of my favorite games, and I've always kinda wanted to try Energy Empire because of reviews I've read. Just always lacked the final push to really go get this game and try it out. And this video did it! Thanks folks for this great presentation of the game!

Great video, guys! Couple small things: -To claim an achievement, you only need two workers and/or energy, not two workers plus an energy. The rules book isn't exactly crystal clear on this, unfortunately. -The bank cannot be activated twice on the same turn.

Great playthrough guys. Congrats Frances. I love this game but I honestly think it's still a few tweaks away from being a truly great game. The UN track feels tacked on but could be a really nice mechanic if, for example, it rewarded leading players with the ability to influence certain game play elements (setting policies). There is no question that specializing in a certain sector, industry for example, is better than diversifying. Perhaps there can be more incentive for players who build structures from all three sectors. The Global Impacts don't really offer much for or against. Anyway, I believe the designers are looking at various changes for a planned expansion.

It looks like Anthony didn't count the structure that was covered by the two energy tokens on top. He still would've lost either way though lol

How do you guys rate this game vs Terraforming Mars? I saw your runthrough of that as well and the two games look to follow a similar thought process. Great runthroughs too, btw 😀
