ANTM British Invasion Episode 2: MAKEOVERS recap by Annaliese

Here it is, my recap/reaction for the makeovers from season 18 of America's Next Top Model: British Invasion!! I actually have no clue how this video ended up so long. I don't even feel like I had that much to say, so clearly I must have waffled (sorry)

Me too, but also fantasy colors are a bitch to keep fresh; especially pastel tones! Also your hair reaches a point where it just won't take the color. I don't even know whose was this genius idea of pastel pink hair but I wanted them fired.

They totally gave Louise the “Can I see your manager?” haircut. AKA: The Karen. The pigtails make Eboni look like Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes of TLC when they first came on the scene back in the early 90s. If she threw on a pair of oversized overalls, she’d be dead on. The red, white, and blue hair was 2/3 of the way awful. The platinum blonde - fine. But those awful, chunky dyed pieces with the red and blue just ruined it. There’s nothing practical or cutting edge about it. Who would go into a go-see like that? And how do you justify it?

I love that you gave so much commentary on this one! You have such a fun personality. And I agree, I wasn't digging the way they styled that weave in your makeover shot. It was a hidden blessing that your lymph nodes acted up because then you were able to rock your natural beautiful hair for the rest of the competition. Have you thought about doing a zoom reunion with the British girls? Could be a lot of fun, though it would take some work getting everyone together =)

Let me be clear. I'm not blaming the models; I'm blaming the show. I think Ashley, Louise, and Laura looked older with their new hairstyles. I thought Kyle also looked better with dark hair. That fake blonde hair always looks so dry to me. I'm also pretty sure it would be hard for Sophie to be cast with pink hair and Ebonee with pigtails. This cycle's makeovers made many of the girls look less like models. They got make unders.

Did the producers ever explain why they touched up Catherine’s pink makeover but only touched up Sophie’s for the finale and she ended up only having pink hair for like a week? And did Catherine really have to cut all of her hair off afterwards because of how damaged it was due to the constant coloring? I’ve seen that rumor floating around! They did Eboni so dirty. She looked like a new model before and then they took away any versatility with the “30 never” brand (which was so dumb because she was 18, of course she’d look young!) I’d love to see you chat with her about her experience on the show. She seemed to really have a tough time

Mr Jay spoke about this on the jay's chat for cycle 9, that they usually would give a wig with the extreme style so the models hair would be unaffected... I liked yours, one of a few who got a African or Afro Brit/American style that is relatable. I agree they needed to tease the F out of it. They could have given you a dark Navy blue rinse ala the flag in the black to give more drama.

You said how no model will go in not knowing about the haircut but by this time in Top Model everyone knew there was a potential of getting a haircut.That being said, I think its part of a game. If you complain about it then it can give the judges an excuse to put you on the bottom for being ungrateful. I do believe some of the hairstyles given were pointless and by the end looked terrible because of the much needed refreshes. Sophie's obviously needed a lot more maintenance. No point in shaving ANTM in Az's hair. Laura was at least given clips but they were like never used in photos. Your hair being so big pretty naturally made no sense to add tons of tracks. (Even though I still thought that photo after makeovers was pretty as heck). Yet, some girls who got their hair chopped off looked SO damn stunning. Like their faces popped so much. Louise could have gone super short because honestly her face could carry the short hair. Yet, they needed the drama. It is first and foremost a reality show. They have to edit Louise as the bad guy. I do wonder though when she got cut if she actually went home or was forced to stay at a hotel.

I don't envy black girls, cuz of the weave treatment they have to go under. For you must be frustrating to get hair sown into your existing hair and then to take it out afterwards. Btw I loved Sophie's and Catherine's hair Color big time and I always loved your hair during judging :-) think the UK girls got a better and effective make over than the American girls with the exception of Laura. I know a lot of people say it's just hair, but hair also can really change a woman's look. I understand because I have long hair too. Plus they had 2 blondes already so they probably changed Louise hair for that reason and to make her upset. I do wonder what hair/ hairstyle I'd have if I was on the show. Just curious but I'm happy I wasn't.

I loved UK's girls makeovers, but maybe Louise's was better before. Annaliese with that weave was a little bit meh because her hair was really pretty already 😍 I think the weave maybe made it edgier. Catherine's and Sophie's really pretty and out of the box. UK Girls were already beautiful and then very editorial 😍❤️❤️ USA's team with 3 exactly the same bangs was a little bit a weakness, Kyle and Eboni looked way better without bangs and without that haircolors. Laura's red and blue were awful, the white was enough and really suitable. I loved Candace's and Mariah's hairstyle tho. ❤️
