Brings back great memories of driving those 47s. They really were a hard worked loco that delivered when required.

@@antman09ful1 From slow wagonload, to Freightliners, MGRs, stopping passenger, top link expresses, flat out top speeds, f1 station starts, including setting of car alarms, ro lifting the floorboards on a station footbridge with the sheer power from the exhaust! I got into trouble for that, for stopping short of the board😄. Does show what umph that Sulzer power unit has though! Enjoyed nearly every second on 47s,apart from the usual 'incontinence' issue of coolant loss. Great video again.

@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRfmy uncle was a driver on the SWR. Whilst the 33s and 50s took the plaudits, he reckoned the 47s were the best to drive overall. And yes....he was happy to admit it was quite easy to top 100 between Woking and Basingstoke!

I'm very pleased you are interested in what the railways were like, its true that the generation before us always say the railway were better in my days , but I must say that statement is true. Because when I got into the hobby in 1974 the railways were a lot more exciting than now, but its great that we have so much information and our iphone to get the up to date info all the time. Always keep checking my videos for the old footage you was referring to as all my olf footage has never been uploaded before Jake. Thanks for taking a look regards Mike.

Even though we probably have never (and will never) like their Pendos and Voyagers compared to loco hauled sets, Virgin Trains was a very good TOC. Very fair prices, good punctuality. For example, not long before the franchise ended I could get from New St to London on a weekend for a fiver with my railcard. In 2018 I went from New St to Edinburgh first class return on a Wednesday for £90. Now, Avanti and CrossCountry have ridiculously high fares, never any discounts or offers.

You are right Chriso Virgin were a very good company for the people who travel on there trains and there staff. yeh mate..why ever did they get rid of them...47's and carriages were far better than all these frigging " plastic missiles " of nowadays...the 47's & carriage trains..had far more character, and also in my opinion gave a much better ride..also with better seating facilities and more leg room..the pendolino's & units of today..are very uncomfortable & so cramped..more or less to the point where the person sitting in front of you..is technically more or less sitting on your frigging lap..and you never even get a " full window " anymore.. :(

I'm going to upset you now pmallenuk I got off at that station behind 50031 one sunny evening in 1989 on the start of the best bash I ever went on. Me and my mate Tim (both of us from chesterfield) we're on the hunt for 50's 33's and 73's it was mega apart from getting things very very wrong and getting stuck for the night at Yeovil jct but the nice station staff let us sleep in the waiting room albeit without lights. After a bit of Crompton action the next morning got a top n tail pair of 73's sadly on 3rd rail. One of these days I going to get round to putting all my many photos on here.
